Four Hearts And One Mate - Chapter 9

Chapter 9

Aria.

I woke up in a comfy bed, soft and luxurious. My lashes flapped, and I stood up slowly from the bed, and rubbed my eyes.
It felt like I had been asleep for a century. The last thing I remembered was when I was in the car with Alpha Damon, what happened after, I didn’t quite remember.
I pushed the covers off my body and stood up from the bed, the room was twice the size of the entire room in the servant quarters at Rowan’s Pack.
Beside the wardrobe, the things were on the floor, he had brought them over to his pack.
The door opened abruptly, and startled me.
Alpha Damon cleared his throat. “…I didn’t know you were awake. The last time I came in, you were asleep. I wanted to check up on you.” He stepped in, and stood in front of me.
I pointed a finger on my dress, I wasn’t on this dress when I left the pack.
“A maid changed it for you and…”
I raised my brow, waiting for him to say the word.
“…and she said there were some scars in your body.”
My brow creased with a frown.
“I wasn’t going to ask you how you got that, I want you to feel comfortable here because nobody is going to hurt you here.”
I heaved a sigh of relief that I wouldn’t be able to see Rowan for a while.
“Is there something I can do to help around the pack? I can’t just do nothing.” I uttered.
He stared calculatively without a word, his fingers tapping slowly on his other hand.
“What should I do for you Alpha?” I asked politely, I didn’t want to move around aimlessly, when he did risk something to save me from Rowan that would have had me killed.
“You haven’t fully recovered yet. You need a lot of rest, we will talk about this conversation after.” He said, his gaze didn’t leave my face.
It was difficult to read his thoughts or any expressions that he had, and it was scary that he knew what I was destined to be, and the lineage of my family.
“About the prophecy….”
“You were destined to rule, and be Alphas of Alphas.” He looked grim, and his blue eyes narrowed.
I scoffed and shook my head.
“That’s unbelievable. It’s not going to happen.”
“That was the prophecy about you.”
“Is that why you rescued me? You are all wrong, Alpha Damon, because I don’t have what it takes!” I raised the sound of my voice, and my forefinger were pointing at him angrily.
“I always knew there was a reason you decided to sign the contract with Rowan over me, you just wanted to use me for your political games!”
“That’s not true.” His voice sounded deeper when he talked.
“And you expect me to believe that?” I swept my hair off my face. “I was getting to trust you, you’ve been manipulating me and trying to use me all these while!” I spat.
“You were the one using me.” His voice remained calm.
“Your father is an Alpha, and you have the blood of an alpha running through your veins! You don’t know you had what it takes to become rulers of all Alphas when you came from a powerful bloodline?”
His words made me feel numbed, the reason he was the most fearsome Alpha was probably this.
Alpha Damon knew who I was, and he knew more than he should have.
I felt like an open book to him, and worse, powerless.
Then, he should have known that my wolf was bound or he couldn’t sense that too?
“Have you been…?”
He shook his head before I could complete my words. “I told you it was my gift, unfortunately, I don’t know my own path in all of these or the reason why I brought you over to my pack but…”
He took a step closer, but I withdrew from him. If he was hurt by my withdrawal, he didn’t show, his face was just as blank as it was. “But what?” I asked, and made him stop coming close to me.
“You can use me.” His looks changed, his eyes dilated, and he took in a deep breath. “When you find out what it is that you want, I will be here, come to me anytime.”
I was tongue tied, and watched him as he spoke.
His hard look came back on, and I would have doubted that he said those words.
“You can come downstairs for dinner and if you need anything else, the maid will attend to you.” He added, and sauntered out of the room. He closed the door behind him, and my weak legs gave way.
I stared at the door even after he was gone, his words sunk into my stomach. The door opened again, and he came back in, my eyes went to his long legs in those black pants.
“I forgot about something.” He muttered, and sighed. “We could have talked about it over dinner but, I don’t want anyone else to hear about what I was going to say to you.”
I blinked my eyes at him, he was unpredictable.
He looked uncomfortable bringing up what he wanted to say, and I couldn’t help but stare dumbly at him.
“And if you thought I was being manipulative, I wasn’t, others could think that but I don’t want you to, and you’re the only she-wolf I have brought to my personal home. So…”
He was reluctant to say the next words, and I had never seen him look this way.
It was quite pleasing to see how flustered he looked.
“…I don’t want you to listen to the gossip of the maids, and if I do hear anything, I will take all of them out.”
“Take them out, where?”
“I will send them to damn hell.”
I shook my head. “There’s no way you would do that over a gossip talk.”
He nodded. “I have done worse.”
I folded my arms and twitched my lips. “And what gossip?”
“That you’re my mate.”

Chapter 10

Damon.
“…that you’re my mate.” I wanted to see the look on her face when I said that, her eyes widen at me and she wanted to speak because her lips parted but no words came out of her mouth.
“It’s just a rumor or a gossip. You shouldn’t think that much about it and I would have anyone who goes around spreading such rumors punished.” I responded, and walked out of the room. I didn’t want to stay any longer in her presence, I got angry and mixed emotions each time I was by her side.
I had seen the scars on her body when she was undressed, I was infuriated by it. I wanted to do something to Rowan, and went back to Silverwolf Pack but I didn’t meet him at the pack house.
I was informed that he had gone for a meeting. I couldn’t wait because I had to go back to the pack and check on Aria.
I left a word for him.
“Alpha, the council wants a meeting with you…” My Beta informed me as I stepped into my study room.
“When did you get here?” I glanced at him over my shoulders.
“About an hour.” He shrugged. “…when I came up you were with the girl.”
I took off my jacket, and placed it on the chair. I took my seat.
“So what is the meeting about?”
“I don’t know, they must’ve heard that you signed up a deal with Alpha Rowan of the Silverwolf pack and requested a meeting. You were never the one to form an alliance. They want to be sure you weren’t threatened to do that.”
“Fuck, why would I be threatened to do that?” I hissed through my teeth and tapped my fingers on the table.
Rowan thought he could outsmart me, but he was just being stupid, he didn’t read what was in the document that I wrote.
There was no way I would’ve signed up to that, and there was nothing like a formal alliance, he would be surprised when he found out.
I had to do that to take Aria away from him.
“About the girl, how long will she be here?”
“As long as our contract stands.” I muttered, and he didn’t look convinced.
“If you hadn’t gone to the Silverwolf pack that day, something else would’ve happened. You never wanted to go hunting.”
I nodded at him. “I never wanted to…but I went.”
I received an invitation from Rowan to be there at the gathering. I didn’t want to attend at first because I don’t like social gathering and socializing.
I found it difficult to be among people, especially Alphas who could easily turn your enemy overnight and attack your pack if you’re not being careful.
I went there that day, the hunt was already over when I got there. I had met Rowan at the Pack house, worried that a servant of his had escaped the pack and was meant to face death.
He had refused to tell me who it was, if it wasn’t for the girl who was in the pack house at that time. She told me it was Aria who was serving the Alpha and that she stole from him.
She told me where I could find her in the woods.
“There's something about Alpha Rowan that doesn’t make sense to me, he has been doing everything to have you at his side for over a year now, and he’s finally got what he wanted. He’s quite ambitious.”
I took my hand away from the desk.
“He’s someone that knows what he wants.” I muttered, and gave a slight shrug.
“What does he want?” He placed a finger on his jawline.
“Everything, he wants to be in control of everything, he has that much greed in him, and he will do everything to get it.”
“Such an Alpha would get rid of anyone that proves a threat to him. Alpha, you’ve to be careful of him, you don’t know what his plan might be.”
I nodded at my Beta, I knew what I had to do when it came to him but he was the least of my worries at this time.
I wanted to know what I should do to make Aria feel safe here, all my attempts didn’t seem to work and I’m not a man that was good with words.
“The meeting for the…”
“What?” I snapped out of my trance.
“The meeting, Alpha. The meeting with the council.” He explained. “It’s tomorrow morning, and I do think Alpha Rowan would be there too. They didn’t say what would be the form of discussion at the meeting.” He pulled out a card from his coat pocket and dropped it on the table.
I picked it up. “What is this?”
“The Moonlit Gala, Alpha.” He grinned.
I sighed, another gathering which I hated but always been forced to attend as one of the most successful packs, I had to be there.
“Different men will be there, just like you and all other Alphas in the pack, Lunas, prime ministers, the council members. Some might get to find their mates in the gala. It’s going to be a whole lot of fun.
I rolled my eyes at him. It’s just stress, there’s no fun there, it's always been a boring party.
“Finding mates.” The word rang in my head. I have never thought of a mate, or why I had no one at my side.
I had lived a very rough life just to get to this point, I had lived for myself, ruled with a stoned heart because I wasn’t afraid of death or losing anyone. I had lived in the emptiness to strengthen my pack.
“You might get to find yours someday.”
I shook my head. “I don’t care about mates or fates, the moon goddess doesn’t decide what I would be or who I want to spend the rest of my life with. It’s my life, it’s my own story, my responsibility and not some damn shitty goddess.”
The smile withdrew from his face.
“What about the wolf that trespassed? Has he confessed why he was in my office at the pack house?” I asked.
He shook his head. “He hasn’t confessed yet.”
I slammed my fist on the table, and grabbed my jacket.
“Take me to him.” I growled.
“Yes, Alpha.”
“Tell the cook to prepare dinner, and make sure Aria eats, I will wait for you in the car.”
I wasn’t quite sure I would meet up for dinner, I had to deal with the wolf and find out why he was snooping around my office. If he was looking for something that would implicate me or bring me down.
He won’t find it, I don’t keep such things in my office.
“Bring him out!” I yelled at the guards, he was brought out of the prison, and made to kneel in front of me.
“I heard you refused to speak, someone sent you wasn’t it? What did they promise you?” I asked but he kept mute and refused to utter a word.
“I have to eat dinner.” I chuckled darkly.
“If you keep your mouth shut then your whole family will suffer for it, I will kill all of them and even your unborn pup in the belly of your mate. Trust me.”
He gasped. “Alpha, spare my wife.”
“I thought your tongue had been cut off but it appears to be working quite fine.”
He clasped his hands together. “They didn’t do anything, they know nothing about this and it’s all my fault.”
“I will make them pay for what you did, you’ve ten seconds to give me a name or I’ll have your family killed”,
“…bring them in!” I said to the guards, the small family that he had was brought forth to stand before him.
His mother, and his heavily pregnant wife.
“Ten…” I started counting.
“Alpha please, I don’t know the name of the man, he came in a mask, he promised me a lot of money. He promised to keep my family safe. Alpha I don’t know this man, I never wanted to go against you, he was with a mask, he was tall,,, his eyes are dark and sharp…” he rushed his words.
“You should have asked for a name!” My claws came out of my hand, my wolf Maximus adjusting inside of me.
“I don’t know, please Alpha, save my family. We needed money for medication, I’ve got no money, I was tempted to take the offer.”
I scoffed, “…you didn’t make a report did you?”
He was trying to play the victim card now, if he had found something on me, it would have been in the hand of an enemy that wanted to see the end of me and my pack.
Then it would have been a different issue.
My hand shoots out his neck, and my claws slit his throat, his blood splashed on my body, ruining my clothes. “Take him away.”
“What about his family?” The guard holding his wife asked.
“Banish them from the pack, they will never step foot here again.”

Chapter 11

Aria.
Alpha Damon wasn’t around for dinner as he said he would, I was served dinner in the big dining room alone. I thought of Kade, I had always eaten with him, and I never felt alone in the kitchen with him but now I missed his presence around me.
I was able to eat just a little from the meal that I was served, and went back to my bedroom, I started to unpack my things that were brought to the pack.
There was clothes in the wardrobe already, I wonder how Alpha Damon was able to get that all.
I took out the only stuff I had left from my family, and slowly slid down beside the bed, glancing through it. I found my mom’s diary among the things in the small box, and my Alpha’s crest and Alpha.
There was a necklace which my elder brother Drayton had, he shared the same thing with me. I took them out, and smiled faintly at it. I kept it aside and picked up Mom’s diary, I have never read through it completely.
I placed it on my lap, and started to flip through the pages, brushing against every line with my fingers.
It reminded me of her, her lazy laughs, her small beautiful face. Her voice always sounded soothing to the ear.
I exhaled deeply because their faces had started to become blurred.
My finger stopped at a line when she mentioned Rowan in her diary.
He had come after them, thinking that the power lies within my father and my brother Dray, and that was the reason the attack happened.
But it was from the mother’s side and not the father’s. Drayton would have never been a threat to him even if he had been alive but he thought he was a threat, and that was the reason he didn’t survive.
The threat was me.
I closed the diary, there were blood stains on the last pages, and some letters were written in red.
I shook my head in disbelief, it couldn’t be what I was thinking. Rowan was the man who initiated the attack on my family years ago? Then who was the person that saved me that night, and took me away from the pack while it was burning in flames.
Why was I taken under Rowan’s rule?
“This is insane.” I muttered and pushed my hair backwards with both hands. I stood up from the ground, and placed the diary beside the bed. I kept the rest of the item back into the box.
I forced myself to sleep for the night, maybe I was probably hallucinating and all of what I had read wasn’t true.
I closed my eyes and lay on the bed, wishing the thoughts would go away but all I felt was fear in my heart. Was it all Rowan’s plan?
“Miss Aria, someone is here to see you.” A maid informed me while I was dressing up in the morning, I woke up and found the diary right there, the pages of the diary were still intact just as it was last night.
Everything that I read last time was true.
“Give me a minute.” I replied before I opened the door, and came out of the room.
I caught sight of Soren pacing in the living room, my face beamed with smiles, I hurried down the remaining stairs and ran towards him.
“Aria.” He called when he saw me, he stretched out his arms towards me, I jumped in his arms, and they wrapped around me, my hands tightened around his neck, inhaling his scent, he spun me around and chuckled.
“You got out.” I muttered, as he dropped me on my feet.
“You asked Lucian to get me out, he did.” He responded with a smile.
“How did you get here?” Damon’s pack was difficult to get in, you could be taken to prison for trespassing.
He shrugged. “…once a rogue.”
“Would always be a rogue.” I completed his words and we laughed.
“Have a seat.” I gestured to the empty two seater chair, and sat beside him. “Do you want me to get you anything?”
“I came to see you, that’s all I wanted. I wanted to be sure you’re fine.”
“And you, are you hurt?”
“I do heal, Aria. It didn’t take a few hours before the wounds healed up. So you don’t have to worry about me, you’re the one we are worried about.”
I sighed.
“You know. You always had the brightest smile when you look at me, and you’re the one who has the deepest scars and you just covered it up with a smile, even now I could tell you’re bothered with something but you’ve them masked in that smile of yours.” He turned, and made eye contact with me. “…I want to see the real you when you smile, without any pretense, any worry or fear. I want to see that.”
I took my lips in and looked away from him. I couldn’t believe he was able to see through me all these years.
“I lived as a rogue for a long time before Alpha Rowan accepted me into the Silverwolf Pack. So I do know about some things you’re curious about.” He flashed a smile at me.
I couldn’t push Soren away if I wanted to, I needed him. He knew more about the outside world than we did, he had been a rogue.
He knew out of it, and Lucian was able to get him out of prison, Kade was my fierce warrior. He was strong and I was certain he could stand a chance against an Alpha Wolf and Damon was well into politics.
With them by my side, I would be able to get revenge for my family, for my pack and everything that I lost.
“What are you thinking about? You seem lost.” Soren snapped his fingers in front of my eyes, I blinked and stared at him.
“What were you saying?” I asked.
“It was nothing important,” He shrugged it off and leaned his back against the chair.
“Is he nice to you? The Alpha.”
That reminds me that I haven’t seen him since last night.
“He was nice enough to take me away from Rowan.”
“It’s just…there’s no good thing about him, well maybe there is something which we don’t know yet and Kade…” He pressed his lips into a thin line.
“How is he?”
“Buried in work, he’s working a transfer.”
“He wants to come here?”
“You already know that, I don’t think I stand a chance when he’s here.” He said the last words a bit too quietly.
“Would Rowan let him?”
“If he comes with a good reason for transferring to another pack, Kade is smart, he’s not going to use you as his excuse. He already knew that’s not going to work, he would come up with something else. You know I heard Kade lost his sister, Abby. He probably thinks…”
I nodded. “That he would lose me too.”
I knew that because he told me about it, he had never felt the same after they lost her, he blamed himself for not being able to protect her while they were out together, and she had gone missing and was never found.
It was the deepest secret he had to share with me. I saw how vulnerable he was but I couldn’t tell him anything about me.
I kept my secrets with me, it was for my own safety and protection, I didn’t want words going around.
Even without saying anything someone had attempted to kill me twice.
Last time, I was scared that they might succeed with it.
“What about you?” I asked and broke out of my thoughts.
“I’m here if you need me.”
“If I ever needed to go against Rowan, would you go with me?”
He stared at me. “You’re being serious.
“I am.” I affirmed.
“He took you into his pack, and made you a member of his pack, you know how difficult it is for an Alpha to accept a rogue. You got rejected from other packs too but Rowan took you in.”
“Once a rogue would always be one.” He stated.
His words got me a bit confused, I wanted to know if he could stand by me.
I admit that I had a complicated feelings between these men, and Soren was the easiest of them all. I clasped my hand over his arm. “You would go back to being a rogue?”
“If it ends that way, I might go back to being one.”
“Would you go against him with me?”
“If you give me a good reason why you want to take that path and challenge him, then I would decide if I should take the same path with you or not. I can’t just decide about it, and I don’t want you to make decisions you’re going to end up regretting.”
I withdrew my hand from his arm. “I have made up my mind about it.”
“Is this because of what happened at the pack house, is that why you’re doing this?”
“He hurt me more than you could ever think of Soren.” I blinked the tears away from my eyes. “I never asked how you became a rogue. It might be something you don’t want to talk about, something that tore you apart. It’s something like that for me, so can you trust me with this?”
His thumb brushed the tear off the corner of my eyes that was threatening to fall. He pulled closer, and placed a kiss on my forehead.
“I’m not afraid of going back to being rogue. That’s my answer.”

Chapter 12

Damon.
I paid less attention to what they were saying at the council meeting but I did catch the eyes of a man staring at me throughout the meeting.
I had seen his face before, I couldn’t remember where I had seen him but he was part of the council. I wanted the meeting to end quickly so I could go back to my pack and see Aria.
I had been busy for the past few days, and hadn’t been able to see her.
“…and we’ll think about how to make changes in our pack and make the Moonlit Gala eventful as well.” The Chief Elder was giving a round up speech. They said joining hands with the Silverwolf pack was a good thing to do since I had never interacted with any Alpha packs before.
Well, whatever they say.
“This would be the end of our meeting…” He said, and I stood up, the next meeting, I wasn’t sure I would be of any attendance to it.
“Alpha.” A voice stopped me, I turned and spared him a stare. His hands were stuffed in his pocket when he approached me, he took them out when he got close.
At least, he had some respect left in him.
He was the man that was staring at me in the meeting room earlier.
“Is there a problem?”
“I’m Lucian, the council member strategist.” He stretched out his hand towards me. He dropped them at his side when I didn’t take them.
“So?”
“I heard you took Aria. I want to know if she’s safe with you.”
“Did she complain to you?” I asked.
Another man was asking about her, I wondered how many more men were around her.
“No. I haven’t heard from you since that night at the hospital, then I heard you took her on which deal?”
I chuckled amusingly.
“What do you intend to do with that?”
“If you won’t tell me, I would speak with Alpha Rowan, I will read through the contract and if there’s any mishaps and there’s something wrong with what you signed with Rowan. I would do everything to take her away, and expose you and your plans.”
“Where were you when she was almost killed that night?” I challenged him, he was starting to get me pissed off with his words.
“I did what I could to save her, and this is what you’ve to say, you want to take her away.” I stepped closer to him. “Dare him, Lucian.”
“I don’t trust you.”
“I don’t give a fuck even if you do.” I growled.
“I don’t mean to offend you with my words. It’s just what it is…Alpha Damon. You don’t do anything with a plan, and I do believe taking Aria away from the pack was your plan. You didn’t care if she was going to be killed or not, you wanted something from her that’s why you took her. Alpha, I’m going to ask you…” This time he was the one who took a step closer to me, and closed the distance between us. “Do you know who Aria was?”
I scoffed.
This was probably the reason he was staring at me throughout the meeting, he has been pondering on that thought for long how?
And how was he able to come to that conclusion that I knew something about Aria.
“Do you want to see Aria? I will give you a pass to my pack.”
“Alpha.” My Beta Peterson interjected. “…the car is ready.”
Lucian stepped back, and bowed slightly. “I believe we would have this conversation some other time, Alpha.”
I hummed, spun around and walked out.
“Alpha what was he talking about?” Peterson asked as we walked towards the car.
“He wanted to know about the contract that I signed with Rowan, he was curious about that, and he thought I had some sort of plan.” I replied and went into the car. “Take me home. Inform the maid to prepare dinner before we get there, I will have dinner with Aria tonight.”
“Yes, Alpha.”
“Welcome home, Alpha.” The servants greeted me as I took off my suit jacket and gave it to one of them.
“Is dinner ready?”
“Yes, Alpha.”
“Bring her downstairs, let's eat. It’s already past seven.” I made my way to the dining area.
“She said she isn’t eating dinner Alpha.”
I halted at her words. “She said that?”
“Yes, Alpha.”
I glanced at Peterson. “Go talk to her, tell her I’m waiting to dine with her.”
Peterson nodded, and left.
I walked to the dining and took a seat, then waited for her to get down.
I don’t know what Peterson would say to her but I do know he would be able to convince her to come down for dinner.
I waited for about five minutes before she came down with Peterson, sulking.
“I will take my leave, Alpha.” He bowed and stepped out of the dining area, my eyes were fixed on Aria the entire time.
“You didn’t want to eat with me?”
“I wasn’t hungry.”
“They said you’ve eaten all day, you’ve been locked in your room, and you didn’t step out of it. Is something wrong?”
She pulled out a chair and sat down, picked up her fork and started to nibble on the steaks in front of her.
“You don’t want to talk about it?”
She took the piece of steak which she he cut into her mouth.
“I want you to be comfortable with me.” I muttered, and I haven’t touched my meal yet.
“Or are you angry with me?” I asked, but I couldn't figure out what was wrong with her.
She took a sip from the juice and pushed her chair backwards. “I’m done eating, thanks for the meal.” She stood up, I stretched my hand towards her, and grabbed her wrist, twirled her around and made her fall on my lap, my hand moved swiftly from her wrist to her waist.
Her look on her face was written in shock, she tried to wriggle free but she knew fighting against me would be pointless.
I drew her meal closer to me, cut the steaks while she was still in my arms, and picked it up with a fork.
“Open your mouth. You haven’t eaten enough.”
She refused, and tightened her lips together.
“If you want to get out of my body, that’s the only way, else I will keep holding you this way, and the servant will see us this way. Is that what you want?”
Her mouth parted, and she took the steak into her mouth.
“Good girl.”
She glared at me, I chuckled and took another bite for her.
“You knew some nutrients. Your body needs to be healthy for the pups you’re going to bear in the future.” I joked and she slapped my arm.
I ended up laughing at her shy face.
“Stop teasing me.” She said with a mouth full.
“You’ve to finish this before I let you go, here's some rice.”
I took a spoonful of rice and fed her with it.
“Water.”
I filled the glass up, and she drank from it. I let go of her waist when she had finished the meal and wiped the side of her mouth.
She was still seated on my lap, and I lifted her up slowly with both of my hands on her small waist.
“You haven’t touched your meal.”
“I will.” I muttered, and she went back to take her seat.
“Then, I will watch you eat.”
I picked up my fork and started stuffing the food into my mouth, she wouldn’t know, this was the first time someone sat down to eat with me in eighteen years or watch me eat.
“Eat slowly, you don’t want to choke on your food.” She ran her hand over my back, and filled my glass with water.
“You wanted to walk out earlier.” I reminded her, and she pursed her lips.
“Is something wrong?”
She pushed the water closer to me.
“It’s not something you should worry about.”
“You can talk to me if there’s something I could help you with, and I want you to know, I won’t stop you from doing anything that you want. If you need my help, I do hope you’ll let me know and if you need someone to talk to, I will be there.”
“Thank you, Alpha.”
“You don’t have to thank me.” I shrugged it off and sipped from the water. “And you can call me Damon when it’s just us.”
I haven’t heard anyone call me by my first name in a long time, my title was always attached to my name.
People didn’t stay in my life, they all made promises and left me.
No one stayed.
“I don’t think I can do that, Alpha.” She lowered her gaze, I nodded.
“I think I expected much from you, I’m sorry.” I stood up and walked away from the dining area.
I wouldn’t be shaken by silly emotions anymore, and I would focus on what truly matters.

Chapter 13

Aria.

I have been locked in my room all day, reading through mom’s diary for a thousand times till each of her words rang in my head.
I didn’t know who I was going to go against Rowan, my wolf was still bounded, I couldn’t shift, and I did feel stuck. I couldn’t come out of my room, and talked to anyone.
Now, I have watched Damon walk out of the dining room, his countenance has changed in a split of a moment.
I couldn’t call him by his name but I was used to addressing Alphas as Alphas. I wanted to say it to him but instead, I had just watched him leave.
“Would you have breakfast now?” A maid asked when she knocked on my door.
“What about the Alpha?”
“He left.”
I sighed.
“I will have that later.” I replied and went back to bed, I lay on it shortly before another knock came in.
I groaned and stood up from the bed, annoyed and opened the door.
“I told you I would have….”
I swallowed the words back in when I noticed it wasn’t the maid that was there but the red haired Beta of Alpha Damon.
“The Alpha wants you to go for a checkup at the pack hospital, an appointment has been fixed for you already. He said he told you about it, that you’re having an appointment with the doctor today.” He announced, and I blinked my eyes at him, Damon never told me anything about an appointment.
“He never said anything last night.”
“He said he did, the Alpha isn’t someone who lies, Miss Aria.”
“So I’m the one who isn’t truthful?” I folded my arms across my chest.
“I believe you should check.”
“Check what?”
He pointed directly into my room, and the gable beside my bed.
“There’s a phone there, I believe you’ve checked it, have you?”
“He could have said it to me, I don’t know who to operate the phone since it was there, I haven’t used it. Was he trying to make fun of my ignorance?”
“He doesn’t have that time.” Peterson, which he said was his name last night, remarked. “We are thirty minutes late for your appointment, you should get ready. I will drive you there.”
I rolled my eyes and slammed the door shut.
What was wrong with him?
One minute he was so nice and sweet, and the other was cold, as if I never knew him. As if he had never stared at him like I meant something to him.
I picked up the phone which the maid had dropped on the table some days ago, it was given to me by Damon but he never brought it himself.
I slumped on the bed, and remembered Peterson was outside waiting for me. Damon wanted to have a maid assigned to me and helped me dress and other things that I needed but I had rejected it.
I was used to doing things myself, and I could manage perfectly.
I got up, and prepared to leave the house with Peterson.
“You’re late.” A woman scolded, her black hair was mixed with gray hairs. Her looks were quite strict, she was about an average height.
“Sorry, Mrs Smith.” Peterson smiled at her and leaned against the desk of the receptionist.
We got to the hospital after about an hour, because he had to force me to eat something because we were leaving.
“Is she the girl?” She took her gaze away from Peterson and stared at me.
I lowered my gaze.
“Yes.” He answered.
She tapped her fingers on the desk. “Come to my office now. We’ll have you examined there. Weird for Damon to bring a girl to his house, and go through the extent of having her treated. Did something happen to your Alpha?” She was asking Peterson.
He shrugged. “I was surprised as you were, Mrs Smith. I can never tell what the Alpha is thinking.”
“But you’re always with him.” He flipped her fingers on his forehead. “You should know these things, I wonder why all the men around the Alpha are without a mate.”
“Because the Alpha himself doesn’t want a mate.” Peterson chuckled as he unwrapped a candy.
Mrs Smith clicked her tongue, and she turned to me. “Come with me.”
I followed her into the broad hallway, but all I could think of was Peterson’s last word, the Alpha doesn’t want a mate.
Was that what he said?
Why doesn’t he want a mate?
I didn’t want to be bothered by those thoughts but it kept recurring in my head.
Mrs Smith swiped a curtain. “Go in and lay down.” He placed her hands on her hips. “Take your jacket off, I need to see your body.”
I did as she instructed, stripped myself off my clothes, I left my panties and bra on, I stood before her for a minute before I lay on the single bed.
“How long have you lived this way?” She asked, sounding very calm.
I smacked my lips together, doing some calculations in my head.
“Thirteen years.”
She chuckled sadly. “I see why the Alpha brought you to the pack.”
He pointed to a scar on my thigh. I breathed out. “Fire.”
She nodded, and didn’t ask me anything else.
“Damon wanted me to see if I could take some of the scars off your body, but this on your thigh, I won’t be able to cover it. It comes with a lot of pain, I saw the look in your eyes, the way you clench your fist before you speak. It comes with a bad memory, doesn't it?”
I exhaled deeply, and she moved closer to me.
“Damon cares a lot about you, it’s unlike him.”
“I heard you call him Damon, and not by his title is he okay with that?” I asked, I wanted to know about that, and if they had any relationship.
“I wouldn’t call him Damon if he was in front of me, I would’ve to use the title to address him. We used to be close but he has never come here in years, his mother and I were friends, he lost her in this hospital, I couldn’t save her. I was surprised when he sent you to me, I thought he hated me and never wanted to see me again but he didn’t know that I regretted it more than anything else.”
I held her hand, and clasped mine over hers. She smiled faintly at me. “That’s all in the past, let’s get you checked up.”
I let go of her hand, and lay properly on the bed. I had realized that I knew nothing about Damon, and he wasn’t the one to talk about his life.
He would never have said a word about this to me but yet he knew everything there’s to know about me.
Maybe if I choose to see him from a different angle, there might be something I’m not seeing about him, besides being so cold and heartless.
