Chapter 24
Damon.
“You wanted to know what my favorite meal was…” I was in the kitchen with Aria when we came back to Pack.
She nodded, and I leaned close to her. “It was macaroni and cheese with meatballs. Do you want me to make that for you?”
“I would love to eat that.”
I smiled and went towards the gas, and turned it on. “I didn't know why I loved eating it so much when I was kid, maybe it was because she was always happy whenever she prepared it for me.”
“You loved her didn’t you?” She asked and sat on the island, she had my leather coat on her fragile body.
“I loved her.” I affirmed her words, and started preparing the meal for her.
“My father was abusive, he was very violent.” I blurted out, I never wanted to say it out loud but I found myself telling her about it.
When I glanced at her, the smile on her face had faded.
I chuckled, and cut some apples for her.
“It’s all in the past.” I brushed it off and didn’t want her to worry about it or give me any of those pity stares.
“I will be done with this in a minute.”
She ate from the apple silently, and caught her staring at me at intervals. I knew she wanted to ask about something but was restraining herself from doing so.
She joked about something else, and made me laugh, and I was able to prepare a meal for her in the kitchen without any awkward moments.
“You should have been a chef instead of an Alpha.” She commented as she ate the macaroni.
“Does it taste good?”
“Delicious.” She muttered.
“I’m not sure it tastes exactly as hers, I had used her recipe tho, I’m not that perfect.”
She dropped her fork. “This is really good, Damon.”
I blinked my eyes at her, and pushed my elbow closer on the table, in an attempt to be near her.
“You called my name.”
She looked embarrassed, and averted her gaze from my face. “I mean…Alpha.”
I smiled and withdrew from trying to frighten her, and didn’t want to admit that I liked it when he called me by my first name.
After we finished eating, she helped me with the dishes, and kept it neatly back in place. She returned my jacket afterwards and bowed slightly.
“Goodnight, Alpha.” She mumbled, and I nodded at her, holding the coat in my hand and watched her take the stairs.
I went back to my study room with a smile on my face. I didn’t know why I felt…relieved.
Aria was different, I have always known from the aura she carried, she was someone I wanted to keep beside me but I couldn’t force her either.
I wasn’t in charge of her life, she was the one who controlled it and not me.
If she chooses to leave someday, I won’t be able to stop her.
I have gotten to realize that maybe my role in her destiny was to take her away from Rowan, maybe that was the reason our path has crossed.
I placed my feet on the desk in the study room, and stared at the ceiling.
Peterson would be back tomorrow for some reports, and Soren had found his way back home to SilverWolf Pack.
“Alpha. I think Alpha Rowan is making a plan to attack our pack.” Peterson said as he dropped a file report in front of my desk.
“And these are paperworks that needs your signature. I will take them to the pack house after you’ve signed them.”
I picked up a pen and scribbled my signatures against the paperworks.
“Is Aria awake?” I asked as I signed.
“I didn’t see her.”
“Did you check on her?”
“I didn’t.” He admitted, and I looked up from the paperwork.
“Isn’t she the reason we are about to face another attack, you can surrender her to them, Alpha. She isn’t worth all of these.”
I picked up the file report and went through it, reading through everything that was in it.
“You don’t know what help she might bring, so you should say that just yet and I am not an Alpha that goes back on my word, you know that Peterson. If they want an attack they should come.”
“I have tightened the security at all the borders in the pack, everyone going in and out of the pack will be accessed.”
I closed the file report, and drank from my morning coffee.
“I have asked the maid to prepare breakfast and I will go wake her up.”
“You can leave her if she’s still sleeping, she can have breakfast at any time she wants to.”
“You’re breaking the rules you made, Alpha.”
“Because I am Alpha.”
He nodded. “Yes, Alpha.”
He went out of the study room, and was going to check on Aria. I don’t know what was his problem with her but I know he would be able to resolve it with her soon.
I would have to see Alpha Rowan too, I wasn’t scared of him and I would have to remind him about that.
If he ever comes to my Pack, he would regret it because he was drawing the battle line between the two packs.
I signed all the paperworks and organized it somewhere where Peterson could easily take them. I came out of the study room, and went directly to Aria’s bedroom.
I knocked on the door, and waited to hear a response from her, when I heard nothing. I knocked again, and I heard her voice and moved back a little.
“I said I’m coming Pete.” She groaned.
Peterson would have definitely hated that she called him that. Peterson must’ve been here.
Her annoyed face turned into a shy smile when she saw me, I was leaning lazily against the wall beside her door.
“Alpha Damon.”
She smelled like a morning rose, I moved away from the wall, and stood before her, my hand above the wall and trapped her between me and her door.
She blinked her eyes at me, and I must admit that she looked cute when she did that but I wasn’t saying it to her face.
She was a pretty little wolf.
I lifted her con with a finger. “I guess you had a pleasant night's rest.”
“I’m sure you had one too, Alpha.” She countered and looked down at my pants.
Her cheeks were flushed. “I wasn’t talking about me.” I inhaled the smell of her, my other hand went around her waist and moved her away from the door.
I didn’t put any pressure on it while I held her, I was cautious and careful about it.
I leaned closer to her face and her eyes fluttered rapidly, and it made me chuckle.
“Let’s have breakfast.” I mumbled and brushed my lips faintly against her forehead.
“Alpha.” Simone called behind me, and I pulled myself away from her.
Peterson stood there, staring between me and Aria.
“Breakfast is served.” He announced and glanced at me. “If you ever need me to remind you each time you get distracted again, I will be here, Alpna, that's part of my job as your Beta and I’m going to remind you every damn time about that girl.” He whispered to me as we made our way downstairs for dinner.
I shoved him aside.
“I don’t need you to remind me about anything.”
“I think I have to, Alpha. I am the one seeing those looks in your eyes, she’s…” He stared at Aria and he found my eyes already on her.
He shook his head. “No Alpha, not her.” He groaned.
I pulled out a chair for Aria to sit at the dining table before I sat down, and Peterson took the seat opposite Aria, so he could stare directly at her.
Or rather watch her and me.
“I might think you’re interested in me, Pete.” Aria said and Peterson got annoyed.
“Don’t call me that and you’re not someone I would ever fall in love with. Don’t even think about it, I won’t waste my time on you.”
“Then stop staring at me.”
“I’m watching you because I’m yet to know your motive yet. So I’m keeping an eye on you.”
“Your Alpha brought me here, don’t you trust him.”
“I do trust my Alpha and not you.”
“You sound possessive of him.” Aria countered, and Peterson glared at her, and when he wanted to backlash her, I quelled him with a look and he decided to ignore her.
“I stayed up late last night…” Aria said after a prolonged silence. Her gaze was fixed on me. “…I thought of what I should do. You told me to come to you when I had a plan.”
I nodded and dropped my fork on the table. “Do you have a plan now?”
“Yes but I don’t trust your Beta.”
“Don’t worry about him. He’s trustworthy.”
“He doesn’t trust me.”
“He will. Soon.”
She sighed, and turned away from Peterson.
“I have a plan, Alpha and I am going to use you to get it.”
Chapter 25
Aria.
The plan that I had was for Alpha Damon to meet with Rowan in his pack, but I wasn’t quite sure it would stop him from coming after me and if he found out who I was, he wouldn't stop.
I stood by the door of his bedroom as he dressed, he was about to leave the pack, he didn’t argue with him when I told him to go to Alpha Rowan.
“Missing me already?” He asked, and smirked at him. I rolled my eyes at him, and walked closer to him.
I tiptoed and helped him to fix his tie on his suit.
He stared down at me. “You look pretty up close.” He muttered and I smiled at him and took my hands away from his tie and folded my arms.
“What should I say when I get there? I was waiting for him to make a move at me or do anything stupid.”
“And then what are you going to do?” I asked, and he lowered himself to my height. “What do you think I would do?”
I shook my head. “That would cause a war between the packs, and it would lead to a disaster and I might not be able to do anything.”
“Anything?” He raised his brows at me.
“I’m the one Alpha Rowan wants.”
He hummed and nodded his head, taking a step back.
“And?” He kept his brows raised at me, and sat on the bed to put his shoes on.
“I want to be the one to meet him.” I stated strictly, he looked at me, his stares were deep and held a lot of meaning in them.
He kept quiet, and took his gaze back on his shoes, when he was done putting them on, he stood up.
“I should be on my way if I have to be at home at midnight.” He stood before me, towering over me with his height.
“I will take my Beta along with me.”
“Who will be in charge of the pack?”
“The Gemma, he will take care of everything before we come back, and don’t worry he’s someone you can trust. I don’t keep people that I don’t trust close to me or give them any position at all.” He adjusted his tailored suit.
“I have a request to make.”
The look he gave me made me realize that he knew what I was going to ask.
“Kade is it?” He asked, and I nodded.
“Are you worried about him even after you met him?”
I nodded.
“You cared a lot about him, didn't you?”
He fixed the cufflinks on his suit, and kept his hair calm with his hand.
“I do care about Kade, he has always been protective of me.” I admitted, his stares were everywhere except my face.
“What do you want to know?” He asked.
“If he went back to the pack, and he’s with Rowan. I want to know whose side he’s on.”
“He’s with Rowan.”
“Then he’s going to fight you to get me.”
“It seems that what he wants to do, take you away from my pack.” He dropped his hands after he had fixed the cufflinks, and took in a deep breath.
He spun around from the full length mirror and fixed his gaze on me.
“What can I do to make you forget him?”
I felt tongue tied, and any word that would have come out of my tongue won’t make any sense.
I picked up his wristwatch from the table. “I will you when I get back, don’t watch for me. I might return late.”
He strode past me, and sauntered out of the house. I shut the door of his bedroom behind me, and watched him leave from the stairs.
Peterson had been waiting for him at the front door, he opened the door for him and they left, slamming the door behind him.
I came down from the stairs and heard the maids that worked in the kitchen whispering among themselves, that there was a possibility that I was Damon’s mate and not just any guest.
And Damon was hiding me from the pack because I didn’t have a wolf and he didn’t want to be disappointed.
I cleared my throat when I got close, the maids lowered their head, and scurried out of sight and went back into their business.
“I don’t like her for the Alpha.” I heard another whisper as I passed the hallway to the balcony.
“Alpha Damon deserved someone more than that, she’s like a whole, she throws herself at every man.” The voice who responded was tiny, and they were cleaning the balcony. They stopped when they saw me, and smiled sweetly at me.
“Good morning, Miss Aria.” They greeted, and I returned their greetings with a smile.
Sometimes I do forget about the maids in the mansion, I only get to notice their presence when Alpha Damon wasn’t home and neither was his Beta.
I held the railings of the balcony when they were gone, I felt alone when they were gone, and started to go over my mother’s diary.
Flipping through all the pages so I could understand who I was, and the sign that I felt when I was in Silverwolf Pack.
I knew my father was a werewolf but whose powers does my mother hold entirely, and why does the blood flow through from mother to daughter and the prophecy that I would be the next Alphas of Alphas.
“Mom, I feel lost, and I don’t know how to unbound my wolf. I can’t fight on my own that’s why I need those men at my side to fight with me…” My voice trailed off as I spoke. I blinked my eyes at the pages, and found that a tear had dropped on the pages.
“I didn’t want them to get into a fight because of me, and I don’t want Kade to be a different person because of me and turn against each other. I didn’t want that.” I sniffed and closed the diary, and dropped it beside me.
But then, what I didn't understand was the complicated feelings that I had for them.
While I stared on, my eyes caught someone staring at me, and just when I was thinking about them.
There was one, who had come to find me.
The mysterious strategist.
Chapter 26
Aria.
Lucian had been seated for a couple of minutes without saying a word, and I came back from the kitchen, holding a glass of water because he asked for that.
I gave it to him, and sat close to him.
He chugged down the glass of water, and kept the empty glass cup on the table. “Thanks.” He muttered. My hand reached out to touch his face, I brushed my finger against a bruise that was healing. He took my hand away gently from his face but he didn’t let go of it.
“Did you get into a fight?”
He chuckled and shook his head. “I’m too old for that.”
“Then, how did you get that?” I pointed at the bruise on his face.
“It was an accident.”
I didn’t believe that, and he knew I wasn’t going to believe such a lie that he was telling me.
“I can see the look in your eyes, you don’t believe me do you?”
“I think you know the answer to that. It wasn’t just an accident was it?” I inquired.
“How did you even see that?”
I was quite observant, and I had stared at him for a while even at the balcony before we came to the living room.
“Can we not talk about it?”
“Was it Kade?” I asked and his eyes darted at me.
I scoffed, seeing the shock in his gaze.
Wondering how I was able to find out about that, I knew Kade and what he could do when he got angry to such an extent, and Lucian wasn’t just anyone.
I don’t think anyone in the pack could dare to touch him except someone that was of higher rank and close to him.
And Kade was the only one I could think of and what had happened recently.
“Do you know about Kade?”
“Soren told me.”
“That sneaky bastard, huh.”
I smiled softly, and looked down at his hand, when he noticed that I was staring at his hand, he let go of my hand.
Though, I found it comforting when he held my hand.
“Is that why you came here?” I asked, and he clasped his hands together, and breathed out slowly.
“I wanted to speak to Kade but he was quite stubborn, you know how he is sometimes, but I do think it will pass and then I can try and talk to him again though he might not want to speak to me.” Lucian said, and tilted his head to the side and gazed at me. “What will you do?”
“What do you mean?” I asked.
“Will you go back to the Pack?”
“Rowan will kill me if I did.” I countered, and held his gaze.
“I can come up with a plan if you decide to come back, and it will keep you safe from Rowan.”
“It’s better if I stay away from him, and I don’t think…” Everywhere was safe for me, there was an attempt on my life at Silverwolf Pack and even here, someone was here too, watching me.
I couldn’t tell if he was close to me or not but I knew he was here.
“What?” He blinked his eyes at him when I stopped talking.
“Anyone could keep me safe except myself, when I am strong enough, I will face Rowan.”
“You’ve to trust me.” His hand brushed against mine faintly, and it was insane how his faint touches made me want to lean against him, and let him touch me.
When he withdrew, I was disappointed he did but didn’t make any sign on that and he probably didn’t know either.
“I do.” I vouched, and he stared at me.
When he had taken Soren out of the prison, I trusted him.
“Then why won’t you let me help.” He insisted.
“You can help me, not Rowan.”
He turned on the chair, and he had his whole attention fixed on me. “Wasn’t that what I was trying to do?”
“You want me back to the Pack, that’s helping Rowan get what he wants, you just don’t work for Rowan. You’re part of the council members in the country, and you just happen to be part of the Silverwolf Pack. You don’t have to convince me to go back to him.” I said, Lucian just stared at me, and I was starting to lose my confidence with those stares of his without him saying a word.
“Why are you just staring at me?” I found myself sputtering and trying to avoid his gaze. He rubbed his hand over his laps. “Can I ask for something?”
I nodded at him.
“What is it?”
“A favor.”
I shrugged. “If I can help…”
He smiled. “I think you can.”
“Then what is it?” I leaned closer to ask.
“Can we not talk about this, and talk about something else? I left the pack because that was what Rowan and his Beta were on for about hours, and the council meeting didn’t help either. The reason I came here was because I wanted to be away from there and when I thought of some peace, you were the one that came to mind, that’s why I came here.” He explained.
“Can you give me that?” He was pleading with his eyes, and there’s no way I could have said no to that, and I wanted to make it even with helping me with Soren when he was in prison, and he was left without being punished because of his help.
I nodded, and smiled at him. “I do know a place in this Pack we can go…”
He looked at me and I added faintly. “Just us but.” I smirked, and his eyes dilated amusingly. “But what?”
“You’re with me then.”
He chuckled. “In what?”
“In everything, you don’t have to convince me to go back to the Silverwolf Pack and support the plans that I would make.”
“What plans do you’ve Miss Aria?”
I smiled when he addressed me as that with a smile on his face.
“A new era, and a new leader.”
Chapter 27
Aria.
We took a walk around the pack in the cool evening, Lucian was sipping a juice, his eyes were everywhere around the Pack.
We talked about everything except the pending issue in the Pack and his work as a strategist.
I never knew he could talk this much, he had this cold demeanor every time I saw him in Silverwolf Pack.
We stopped at a park, there was a bench there, and in front of the park was an ice cream stall.
Lucian went to get some of those ice cream and came back to sit with me on the bench.
He handed one of them to me, and I took them from his hand, our hands brushing against each other.
“His pack is beautiful.” He said in a low voice, and stared away from me.
I hummed.
“But I don’t think you should get that close to him. I think you’re smart, Aria. Resilient and strong, you shouldn’t let him use you. That’s one of his plans.
“I don’t think he’s using me.”
“You don’t know him well enough.” He remarked, and I stared at the ice cream that was melting in my hand.
“I…I…” I wanted to argue, and figured out that I had nothing to say.
“What could he possibly use me for?” I asked, I wanted to know what he would think.
He shrugged. “Probably clear off the rumor about him.”
“What rumor?” I placed the ice cream in my mouth.
“There was a rumor that because of his cruelty, the moon goddess didn’t bless him with a mate.” Lucian whispered into my ear.
I knew he was being careful because we were in his pack, and words could spread so quickly.
“…so he kept you in his house to quell those rumors. I’m certain there are words going around the pack about him, having a mate in his house.”
“I guess part of your work as a strategist is critical thinking.” I teased, and he chuckled and pulled away from me.
“I do hope that’s not it.” He muttered quietly. “…or that you end up falling in love with him. You engaged with him more than anyone though he’s not a good man but there might be something good about him that you see in him.”
“I think he’s a good Alpha.”
Lucian nodded. “I know you will say that.”
“I think he’s been misunderstood.” I said the last words quietly but Lucian heard it and gave me a stare.
“Only you think that.” I rolled my eyes at him, and we kept quiet and watched the sunset.
“I need to leave for the Pack. I have a meeting tomorrow.” Lucian stood up from the bench, “I’m glad I came here to see you today, and one of the reasons why I wanted you to come back to the pack is because I wanted to use that opportunity to be close to you. I want to get to know you.” He took a deep breath, and chuckled nervously. “I don’t care anymore, or if your heart beats for someone else. I want to get to know you, Aria and I want to be around you. There’s this comfort I get each time you’re close to me, I have never felt it in years. It brings me a lot of peace and it’s crazy that anytime I’m stressed out. I think of you and your smile, and I crave for nothing else but to see you again.”
Though this wasn’t what I wanted or how I wanted to make use of Lucian, and I hope I don’t regret doing this to him.
I stepped closer and held his hand, giving it a little squeeze. “You can always come to me if you feel that way.”
He stared at my hand, and lifted his gaze to my face.
“Then when will you come to me?”
“When you took sides with me.”
“On what?”
“Against Rowan.”
The man that destroyed my family.
“Alpha Rowan?”
I nodded. “He destroyed my family. That’s all I can say now, Lucian and I want to get back at him.”
“Is that what you mean as a new era and new leader, don’t tell me you plan to be the leader?”
Lucian was smart, there was no doubt how he became part of the council.
“Yes.” I admitted.
His hand went to my face, and he lifted my head to face him. “Is that how you came to live under his rule as…”
He didn’t want to use the word, Slave.
But that was what I was to Alpha Rowan, because that was how he treated me.
I exhaled. “You must’ve gone through so much and he still wanted to kill you.”
I nodded and leaned into his touch.
“But they don’t think I could do it, I don’t have anything to fight against Rowan after everything that he did to me, and my family and you think if I go back to Silverwolf Pack, that would be the end of me. Lucian, he won’t let me off again, if he could do that to my family, he will do worse to me.” I knew what I needed from him, and I was getting it.
“…but I’m not going back down now, I’m going to keep fighting until I am able to stand against Rowan.”
“Don’t think you’re alone, Aria. You’re not alone, you’ve me, Soren and Kade, and I’m not quite sure about Alpha Damon.”
“I just need your assurance that you’ll fight with me, and help me with my plans.”
“Is that what you want me to do?”
I stared at his face for a while, and nodded curtly. “Yes. That’s what I want from you, Lucian. I want you at my side.”
“You don’t need to ask that, Aria. I will do everything that I can to help you, just let me know when you need me and whatever you need.”
“And you won’t turn against me.”
“I won’t.” The stern look on his face made me believe him. “…and I won’t let Rowan hurt you again. Trust me.”
He pulled me close to him, and placed a tender kiss on my forehead.
I smirked, I was getting what I wanted.
Chapter 28
Damon.
“I don’t trust her, Alpha or rather I don’t like her.” Peterson grumbled when we got to the Silverwolf Pack.
“Why would you agree to do what she asked you to, it doesn’t make any sense.”
“You trust me, don’t you Alpha?” I asked and tilted my head to the side, and glanced at him.
“I do trust you, Alpha.”
“Then you don’t have to worry about Aria.”
His eyes were fixed on me the whole time he was speaking and while we drove to the front gate of the Pack house.
The guards at the gate came to check the car, and bowed when they came close.
“Tell your Alpha, we’ve come to pay a visit.” Peterson said as he looked away from me, and faced the guard.
“Yes, Beta.” The guard nodded, and went out of sight.
I took in a deep breath, and looked out the window. Though I could feel my Beta’s eyes on me.
“Ain’t you bothered?” He asked.
“About what?” I turned, and looked at him.
“The girl.”
“I have never brought anyone close without being sure of what I am doing…” The gate opened, and I kept quiet for a while and Peterson drove in.
He came out of the car, and opened the side door, I stepped out and adjusted my jacket.
“…Aria has a future of a different empire.” I said and tapped his shoulder.
He stared at my hand on his shoulder. “I don’t care about that Alpha.”
“Then what do you care about that?” I took my hand away and placed them in my pocket.
“That…” He exhaled, and shook his head. “I don’t want to think about that, and I don’t think I will ever get to like her. She’s mysterious around men and they all seem to want her. I don’t want you to be part of that, but …” He shook his head again, and sighed. “We should go in…”
I nodded at him, not making a comment on anything that he said.
I was the one that was mostly unfortunate, I don’t even know what my own future entails, or what will become of my pack. That was why I was doing everything I could to secure the position and protection of my pack.
I would do everything to be what my father wasn’t.
“Alpha.” Peterson pulled me out of my trance, and I was standing in front of the Alpha of Silverwolf Pack. Kade was standing beside him, his hands crossed at his back, his looks were quite fierce.
“What is it you want? I want to know before I can decide if I want to take you to my office or not or rather ask you to leave the Pack.”
I made a disgusted face, and stepped closer to him.
“When I heard you came to my Pack, you really what they say you are Alpha Damon. I have never met an Alpha like you. I thought you were a promising man that wanted to make a deal but you’re nothing but a deceitful Alpha…”
“Then why didn’t you take it to the council, and bring me over to court.”
My words angered him even more, he was fuming, and his face was turning red with anger.
“You didn’t bring Aria with you did you?” He asked.
“Do you think I would do that? Bring her over to you, and for what reason, we already signed a deal, and you’re the one who is being stupid trying to send a mere warrior over to my pack. Your action could have created a war between us, do you think you would have been able to survive?”
“Are you threatening me?” He pointed a finger at his chest.
“It’s just a warning. Stay off my territory, and Aria belongs to me now, if anyone dares to take her away from me. I’m going to fight, and I don’t mind killing whoever that is…”
Kade lifted his head, and met gaze. His eyes were darker, and I could tell he was almost letting his wolf take control of him.
“You came to my pack to threaten me. I am Alpha Rowan, I have been Alpha before you became one, and you want to mess with me because of the little fame that you have.”
I chuckled, and found my Beta laughing too at his words. “He doesn’t know anything does it?” I asked Peterson.
“Not at all, Alpha.” Peterson implied as if we weren’t standing before the Alpha we were talking about.
“I won’t let your Beta speak to my Alpha like that.” Kade growled.
“And what will you do?” Peterson stepped forward.
“What I was trained for…” Kade grunted.
Peterson snickered. “That was the same thing I was trained my whole life for, how long have you trained, ten years, thirteen years?”
Kade glared at him.
“You want to protect your Alpha, you’re free to because I am here to protect mine and I don’t think you're trained enough to take me down.”
“Confidence because you’re a Beta wolf?”
Peterson chuckled amusingly. “I was never a Beta wolf, I became one.”
Alpha Rowan gnashed his teeth at Peterson, and wagged his finger at him. “Keep your mouth shut!” He yelled.
I stepped in front of Peterson, taking Rowan’s gaze back at me. “Don’t let your anger out on him. I came here to warn you, stay away from Aria, don’t come to my pack and start a fight. It’s going to be bloody, and both sides are going to lose men but if you’re prepared for a fight, then come. I will be ready to welcome you, Alpha Rowan.”
“Why are you protecting a girl that meant nothing to you? She will be of no good.”
“Then why do you need her?”
“Because she was my slave.” He snarled,
“We broke that contract and she became mine. I never knew you were that stupid Alpha Rowan, I only rejected forming alliances with you, and everything else in that contract was intact.”
His breathing increased, and he was panting heavily. “I will ask you again, Alpha Rowan. Why are you protecting the girl?”
“Because…” I didn’t know what to say because I couldn’t say the true reason why I was protecting her.
I glanced at Kade. “…she’s my mate.” I blurted out.
