Four Hearts And One Mate - Chapter 29

Chapter 29

Alpha Rowan.
I swept everything off my desk with my hand angrily, Alpha Damon showing up in my pack was threatening enough. I wanted to be the first to do that but he beat me to it and came here instead.
Why did he come here and cause trouble? He should have stayed away, why did he have to show up here and threaten me?
Aria was his mate, how was that possible?
Or it was all his plot to keep her, that girl doesn’t have a wolf in her, and Damon couldn’t keep someone like her beside him, a strong Alpha like him needs a strong Luna to stand by his side and not someone like Aria.
It’s been two days since Damon came to the Pack and even when I thought about it, it pissed me off more than anything else.
I collapsed back on my seat, and growled.
If I had gotten his support, I would have been way through getting what I wanted, and what I would have been thinking was getting at the top of all Alphas but he had decided to ruin it.
A knock on the door got me annoyed and I yelled at whoever was behind it.
“Alpha, it's your Beta, Liam.” The voice said again, and I groaned before I ordered him to come in, after he stated that he had something important to discuss with me.
He came in and bowed courtly, I glared at him.
He knew I wasn’t in the mood for any discussion, nothing has been able to change my mood since Alpha Damon showed up in my pack.
I had felt like I had given Aria away just like that and it shouldn’t have been that way.
“Alpha, I brought someone that insisted on seeing you.” Liam said, and stepped aside.
“I am quite aware that I didn’t make a stupid person as Beta.” I spat.
“Alpha, I think you should see him. He has some information about Aria and he won’t say it to anyone except you. He wants to speak with you alone, that’s why I had decided to let him in.”
“Information about Aria?” I asked, and folded my arms on the table.
“Yes, Alpha. I think he has some things you might want to hear.”
“And if he doesn’t, what should I do to you, Beta?” I asked, because he sounded confident about the stranger he was about to bring in front of me.
“Anything you want to do to me, Alpha. You can do that to me.”
“Did he tell you anything?”
“He hasn’t said anything to me or rather he wants to speak to you.” Liam muttered and I placed a contemplating finger on my jaw and stared at him for a while.
“Is he here?”
“Yes, Alpha.”
“Bring him in and let me have a word with him.”
“I will clear up your office.”
“Do that after the meeting with him, he won’t mind the mess that’s in the room, would he?”
“I doubt so, Alpha.”
“Then bring him in, and let’s have a word.”
He bowed and stepped out of the office for a while, I took out a deep breath, and tapped my fingers on the desk waiting patiently for Liam to come back to the office with the man he wanted me to speak with.
“Alpha.” Liam said outside the door.
“Come in, Liam.” I replied, and he pushed the door open and stepped in with the man. He was tall and lean at the waist, his hair was dark and his face was covered in a mask.
“Why is your face covered?”
“I’m sorry, Alpha. But I can’t show my face to you.”
I chuckled amusingly. “Trying to stay anonymous.”
“I would like it if my identity is not known for the meantime, Alpha.”
“Is there something you’re hiding?” I folded my arms and stared at him, his gaze lowered.
“Have a seat.” I gestured towards the seat in front of me. He took his seat.
“I will be outside if you need me, Alpha.” Liam stepped out of the office, and I nodded at him.
“So what do you want to say to me young man?”
“I want you to join hands with me.”
I laughed. “You’re a funny young man, and you’re the first to make me laugh in a while. I will give you credit for that, and that’s sitting here and listening to what you’ve to say.”
“You don’t know, Alpha.”
“Know about what?” I glowered at him.
“About Aria, there are things you don’t know about her and she’s more than just being your slave.” I could tell he had smirked behind those masks with the way his eyes moved.
“What is that supposed to mean? Is she supposed to be more than that or there are things that I don’t know about…”
He placed his elbow on the table, and leaned closer to me. “That’s why I am here, Alpha. That’s what I came to tell you, and I have been following her for a while.”
“How?” My looks narrowed at him.
“Tell me what I should know about her!”
“You murdered her family, that's what she said and she’s after revenge.”
“Her family, who was her family?”
“And I found her reading a diary, a diary that had the name of a Luna crest on it.”
My eyes widened at the man before me. I had gripped the edge of the table.
“You still can’t put the pieces today?” He whispered as he leaned close. “Who was the family of the Alpha that you killed?”
I gritted my teeth and the table shook within my grip.
“Do you remember and if you do, then you must know who Aria is…” He moved backwards, and fluttered his eyes for a second. “…now that will bring me to the reason why I am here, do you still want her to be alive? Or you’ll join forces with me and will take her down. If you do, Aria will come for you, this pack and everything that you have. She will take them all away.”
“I killed everyone in that family, no one should have never left alive, not even their son and if Aria was meant to be dead, then she should be dead.”

Chapter 30

Alpha Rowan.
“Alpha Rowan, you wanted me to get Kade. I brought him over.” Liam voiced outside the door of my office. I have been seated there for the past couple of minutes since that stranger with a mask on said those things to me. He didn’t leave yet he was behind on one of my shelves, seated there waiting to listen to the conversation we were going to have with Kade.
Tapping my fingers on the desk, I wasn’t angry, I was bothered and that was more annoying than anything else I could think of.
“Come in.” I said with a grunt after some seconds of thoughts, and the door opened. Liam came in with Kade and I straightened myself against the seat, and roamed my eyes over Kade.
He stood firmly, his hands crossed at his back, his head slightly tilted downward.
I took my gaze over to Liam, he stood some feet away from Kade.
I cleared my throat. “…you must be wondering the reason why I called for you. Well. There has been a threat to my position, and I think Alpha Damon is plotting to take over my pack and everything that I owed.” I slammed my fist on the table, and stood up slowly. “I built this pack! I made it this strong as it is today, and I won’t give up on it.”
“Has he declared a war?” Kade asked, and I snorted, walked over to him and placed a hand on his shoulder.
“He came and that alone was a threat. I thought you had something for Aria, or you are just going to let him take her?” I inquired and wanted to see his reaction, his eyes darted at me, and his jaw clenched tightly.
It was just the reaction I wanted to see, the look in his eyes when I mentioned her.
I scoffed. “You thought I didn’t know.”
I moved away from him, and leaned against my desk with my hands on it.
He gritted his teeth, and lowered his head again.
“I want the warriors trained more than they do now until they are ready to attack Damon’s Pack. And it’s your duty to make sure they are ready, when we defeat Damon, Aria will be brought back to this pack, and you’ll have her. I would give her to you as your mate. I think what Damon said was a lie, he can’t be mated to Aria. She doesn’t even have a wolf, she can’t identify her own mate. You could be the one for her, and that’s when you can step in…”
“Why are we suddenly organizing another attack on them? I thought we gave up on that.” Kade lifted his gaze to my face for a second.
“If I don’t do anything, they will come for me. There’s a threat at my position, and I would lose everything, and Damon would take over the pack. That’s why he had Aria, he wanted to use her against me. So get ready, and train harder than you have ever done. I am your Alpha and I’m giving you an order.”
He bowed.
“I will do as you’ve said, Alpha.”
“Liam would supervise your training and he will report everything to me, you will send spies over to Damon‘s pack and see how they trained or anything that we could get on them.”
“Their security is tight, it’s difficult to get in.” Kade complained.
“Those that mean you can’t do it.”
“I can.”
I stood up and tapped his shoulders again. “You can, Damon isn’t that stronger than you, it’s only because he’s Alpha and if you don’t do anything, watch him as he would take everything that you desired.
“That’s if Aria chooses him.”
“What makes you think she can't choose you? Or do you know if she has been forced by Damon. He was able to take her over a contract, he could easily manipulate her into doing what he wants.”
Kade kept quiet, though I had no idea what he was thinking, I was certain he was going to do what I had asked him to and I needed him to fight.
Before they take me down, I would be the one to take them down when they least expected it.
The Alpha seat was mine and would forever be mine, and I would never give up on it.
“Go and prepare the spies and I would access them before they leave and see if they are fit to be there.”
“Yes, Alpha.” Kade bowed.
“You can leave and start your preparations immediately! There must be no single delay in anything that you intend to do, we don’t have much time in our hands.”
“Yes, Alpha.” Liam replied, and he walked towards the door and opened it for Kade to step out, he closed it behind him slowly, and stood beside the door.
“Is there anything I can do for you, Alpha?” Liam asked, I grumbled under my breath as I walked over to my seat.
“Alpha.”
“Get out of my sight, Liam.” I ordered, without another word, he went out through the door. The masked man came out from the shelves he had been hiding.
“She was under my watch for years, I had her and I could have crushed her when I had the time too, and now it is going to be a little difficult to do that because she is far away. I had that pettie slave with my walls.”
He walked around my desk slowly, listening to every word that I was saying.
“You can still have her, you just need some time and I think Kade is the right person to get her. You are only using him.”
“I have to use what I have to get what I want.” I scowled at him, he chuckled amusingly and placed his hands in front of my desk.
“That’s a smart move, and then we will be able to crush Alpha Damon and take Aria together. The fool thinks you will give her to him as you said, he had the slightest idea what’s about to happen to him or Aria.”
I leaned my back against the chair, and smirked at him.
“Who is Aria to you?” I asked with my hands folded.
“Someone closer to her than she thinks.” He grinned revealing just the upper form of his teeth.

Chapter 31

Aria.
Damon came back late.
“How was the meeting with Alpha Rowan…?” I asked Damon when he came back to the house without his Beta. The maid welcomed him, and took his suit jacket from his hand, and a briefcase.
“Have you been up waiting?” He said and stopped in front of me.
“Were you worried about me or how the meeting with Alpha Rowan was…” He asked with a cocky smile, lowering himself to my height.
“You came late, I was worried. I thought the meeting wouldn’t take much time.” I said while locking my gaze with him.
“It didn’t. We had other things to do.” He straightened himself, and stroked his fingers over my hair.
“Were you able to eat dinner?”
He shook his head slowly.
“I will have your dinner in the microwave and serve you.” I muttered and was about to turn towards the kitchen when he reached out to grab my wrist and pulled me into his arms, and my head hit against his chest.
His hand gently moved over the small of my back and rested there. I was frozen for a moment in his arms, and was unable to do anything and I couldn’t even control the sound of my breathing, and listening to the sound of his heart beating against my ear.
I felt him squeezed me into his body, and his head was over my neck.
After a moment, he withdrew from me. “Sorry.” He mumbled quietly, and walked past me through the stairs.
I was still rooted where I was unable to move or take the next step, I placed a hand over my chest, I could hear my head pounding against my ears.
He hasn’t hugged me that way before, something happened to him that I didn’t know of or something that he wasn’t saying to me.
I went into the kitchen after I got back myself, and prepared his meals. It was already past dinner time but I didn’t want him to sleep on an empty stomach.
I was done and went to call him, he wasn’t in his bedroom, so I walked over to his study and when I noticed that the lights were on, I knew he was in there. So I knocked gently.
“…your dinner is ready.” I said outside the door.
“Can you bring them in here? Never mind, I will come downstairs.”
I moved away from the door when I heard his footsteps, it wasn’t up to a minute and the door opened. He came out, with a lazy grin on his face.
I felt lost for words with the stares he was giving me, and the words that I wanted to say, seemed to have died on my lips and all I did was point at the stairs.
He no longer smelled of sweat, and by the time that I was in the kitchen, he had gone for a shower. I wanted to know the soap that he used because I liked the smell of it, and that of his hair but I wasn’t going to say that to him.
We walked down to the dining room without saying a word to each other or rather I was trying to avoid holding a conversation with him.
I pulled out a chair and sat down beside him, watching him eat.
I cleared my throat when I realized I hadn't been told how the meeting with Alpha Rowan was and if there was anything that happened.
“How was the meeting?” I enquired, and looked down at the table, writing something invisible with my finger on the table.
“It wasn’t that bad.” He dropped his fork and wiped the side of his mouth with the wipes.
I turned to look at him. “Did Alpha Rowan do anything?”
“He didn’t do anything strange but…” He coughed, and I quickly reached out and grabbed a glass of water and gave it to him.
Our hands came in contact as he took it from me.
“Thanks.”
He drank from the water, and kept it back on the table when he was done.
“But what…?” I pressed on because I wanted to know everything that happened.
“He didn’t seem like he would back down.”
“Why won’t he?” I frowned,
“You seemed to be the bigger price. I did warn him not to come to my pack except for his request for war, and if it keeps going that way, I don’t think war would be inevitable.”
I started to bite my nails subconsciously, he held my hand and pulled it away from my mouth but didn’t let go of it.
“Let’s wait for a while and see how it goes. You don’t have to panic, I am not quite sure yet but we might need to get some answers from Soren and we’ll be able to know if he’s planning anything.”
I nodded and then he let go of my hand. “You should rest for the night, I have some other work to do, and thanks for the meal.” He pushed his chair backwards, he halted as if he forgot something that he wanted to say.
“You shouldn’t stay up late waiting for me.”
“I couldn’t help it.” I admitted.
For a few seconds his eyes flickered, and then he turned away from me, and stood up from his seat. Without another glance, he made his way back to his study room and all I could do was stare after him.
I cleared the plates off the table, washed them, and kept them properly before I left the kitchen.
I walked past his study room, the light was still on, and it was past two at night.
I opened the door of my bedroom and entered, closed the door behind me.
I picked up my mom’s diary which I kept on the dressing table and took to bed with me, I placed it against my pounding chest, this wasn’t a time to think about them, though they crossed my mind over often and it was getting difficult to choose who my heart was drumming so fast for.
The only way for me to find my soulmate was to break the bond else I would end up making the wrong choice.

Chapter 32

Aria.
I was informed that Soren was at the house, it has been two days since Damon returned from the Silverwolf Pack, and he had been distanced since that night.
He never told me what work he was doing that kept him busy, and not being able to see him despite the fact that we were in the same house.
Peterson was different, I could tell clearly that he was avoiding me, he doesn’t talk to me and treated me as if I was fucking invisible and he doesn’t even get close.
I came downstairs, and met with Soren pacing around the living room.
He stopped when he saw me, and dropped his hands to his side.
He forced a smile on his lips, it was something he did when he was uncomfortable.
“You don’t look too good, Aria. Are you sick?” He strode over to me, and placed a hand over my forehead. I shook my head at him and took his hand away, but he held my hand and didn’t let go.
“You look pale.”
“I wasn’t able to get some sleep last night.” I muttered, and he stretched out his arms, I fell into his warm embrace, inhaling his cologne. His hand rubbed against my back soothing, without adding any pressure in his hugs, I took a step back, creating a space between us, and looked up at him with tired eyes. His hand rested on my cheek, and he caressed them softly with his thumb.
“Come here.” He closed the distance between us again, and my head rested against his shoulders, one of his hands was on my back, and the other at the back of my hair, stroking them passionately against his fingers.
“I wonder what kept my little fairy up all night.” He mumbled behind my ears. I smiled gently, he knew exactly how to comfort me.
He pulled away after a moment, he held my hand, and led me over to the couch, we sat beside each other, his hand guided my head to his shoulders, and I leaned against him. He interlocked our hands and played with our fingers.
I chuckled, and he placed his jaw over my head for a second before he moved it away and kissed the top of my head.
“You know you can talk to me about anything.”
I stared at him over my lashes. “Did Damon send you here? You never told me you were coming.”
“He did ask me to come, and I thought you might be lonely in here. When you were at Silverwolf Pack, you were always busy, and it was never this quiet.”
“It was never quiet doesn’t mean I missed it, it was just a place that I dreaded so much and couldn’t wait to escape, the quietness here makes me feel safe.” I said and stared down at our fingers.
“What did the Alpha called you for?” I asked and stopped playing with his fingers.
“He wanted to know what was happening in the pack.”
“You told him?”
“Because of you. You know my loyalty is with Alpha Rowan, I’m part of his pack, and Lucian also helped me a few times and I was informed before I left the pack that Alpha wants to have a meeting with me tomorrow.”
I lifted my head from his shoulders, and a look of worth flashed over my face.
He rubbed his hand over my arm assuringly. “Nothing is going to happen.” He smiled at me.
“It doesn’t feel like it, what if he knew that you’ve been coming to see me? What if he tries to have you imprisoned or do something to you?” My hand was on his cheek, and he just smiled.
“Soren.”
He clasped his hand over mine. “I will be fine, Aria. You worry too much. Even if he tries to have me imprisoned, I will always find a way to escape.”
“And what did you say about me?” I brought him back to what he said earlier, and the reason why he reported over to Damon.
“The warriors in the pack are training, and Kade is the one leading them. They've been training quite hard as if preparing for something that’s coming, and I wanted to tell you about it, because it seems Alpha Rowan won’t stop until he has you back.
“Why is he so desperate to get me back?”
“It wasn’t that way before but now it seems to have worsened, and they don’t go a day without training as if they are planning for an attack or something. The last time I checked there wasn’t any threat on our pack, neither was Alpha Rowan in any affairs with any of those neighboring packs and the only pack he had issues with was Alpha Damon, the reason he had issues with him was because of you.”
“That’s how you were able to put the pieces together?”
He nodded, and his hand was still rubbing down my bare arm.
“I don’t know, Soren. I feel stuck.” I took his hand away from my body and stood up. I paced shortly around the couch, and he watched me for a minute before he stood up and made his way over to me.
He placed his hand over my shoulder, and pulled me into his arms.
“Is that what you had on your mind all night?” He inquired, slightly brushing the strands of hair off my face.
“I got scared. I thought I would be able to do anything, I can’t even think of what to do and how I intend to do it.” I bashed my lashes, and stared away from him.
“You don’t have to know it all, if you’ve stuck, you can always ask for help. That’s why you’ve me, you have Alpha Damon, he’s more into politics than anyone else, you’ve a strategic thinking like Lucian, and if you want to get some space and breath or you want to run away from all of it. You know that’s when you’ve me, because I will run away with you when it becomes too tough for you to handle.”
I tilted my head to the side and locked gaze with him, for a moment, I simply stared at him. “You promise.”
“I promise, little fairy.”

Chapter 33

Alpha Damon.
It was getting late but I wasn't done with some of the work in the office. Peterson was in the office with me organizing some of the files that I had sorted out, and was already signed.
With the way he was stealing glances at me, I knew he had something he wanted to say but wasn’t saying it to me or maybe he was looking for the right moment to let it all out.
His eyes met mine, and he knew I had caught him staring at me.
I dropped the paperwork I was working, and decided to give him the attention that he wanted.
“What do you want to say?” I asked, and toyed with the pen between my forefingers.
“I don’t have anything to say, Alpha.” He murmured, and stared down at the files he had gathered in hands, dropping them off in the shelves.
“You know you can’t lie to me Pete.”
He spun around, but didn’t move away from the shelf, and leaned close enough with his hands in his pocket.
“You’ve been giving me side glances, and I know you’ve something to say.”
He sighed, and stared at the wall above my head.
I glanced at my wrist watch. “…you’ve some minutes to say whatever you have to say or remain silent.”
Peterson chuckled. “I do have something to say, Alpha.”
“I know you do.”
He moved away from the shelf and stood in front of me, he took his hands out of his pocket, and placed them behind him.
“Go ahead and speak.”
“Can we stop doing this? Alpha Rowan is going to come for us, and having a war isn’t what we need at the moment. We can’t even trust that man from the Silverwolf Pack. They are preparing to come for us all because of what?” He ran his tongue over his lower lips, and exhaled. “All because of her, can’t you just let her go? Let them take her, she’s the reason all of this is happening, we had peace before she came, and now we don’t even have that anymore.”
“I can’t let her go.”
“I noticed, you are becoming soft towards her.” He stared down at his feet
“It’s not because of that.”
“You can’t have her as a weakness, Alpha.”
“She’s not my weakness.”
“I think she’s slowly becoming one.”
“Do you hate Aria?” I raised my brows at him.
“Not at all, Alpha. I just don’t understand her and what she’s doing and why you’re doing all of these for her. I just don’t understand it all, and she has those men around her. Soren might not be as bad as I think, and Kade, when you mentioned Aria at the meeting with them, I almost thought he was obsessed with her and Lucian is just mysterious, and now, Alpha you are entangled in all of these issues when you are not supposed to. It pissed me off, Alpha.” He gritted out.
“What do you think about her, Alpha?” He asked, and I couldn’t find words to say to him.
What do I think of Aria?
“You said she was your mate, I know it was to protect her from them but do you really wish she was yours?”
I picked up the pen, and started to scribble on an empty sheet.
“I’m sorry, if I had crossed the boundary and wasn’t supposed to ask that.” Peterson took a step back, and lowered his head.
“Is it wrong to think that?” I asked and looked up to meet his gaze.
“No, Alpha.”
I flipped the pen and stared blankly at the wall.
“Sometimes I feel like we are the same. I went through the pains she went through in the hands of Alpha Rowan, she lost a lot too and Peterson…”
“Yes, Alpha.”
“I saw something in her.”
“That must be it. The reason you kept her, she must be of some potential.”
“She has a destiny of greatness. I couldn’t miss my luck.”
“Did you know who her mate will be?”
I shook my head. “I think she will be the one to know that when she unbound her wolf, and then she will make the choice of who she wants for a mate.”
“You are still going to help her?”
“I made a promise, I should keep that.” I blinked my eyes, the words I had just spoken made me remember something that I said to someone I cherished more than anything, someone that I wanted to protect but failed to keep my promise.
“This time, I want to keep the promise I made. I want to protect her, and help to fulfill destiny, maybe that’s the role I am supposed to play in her life and not her mate.”
“And what if you fall in love with her?”
After the night I hugged her, I kept my distance, my heart was getting weaker each time she stood close to me, worried about me, waited for me and ate with me.
I had lived alone for years and came back home each time to see her welcoming me with a smile each time when all I did was ignore her, ignite some feelings in me.
I knew I had to keep away, I had to keep my distance from her because I can’t afford to fall in love and I had so many what ifs in my head.
What if I turned out to be the man my father was? They said his blood still runs in my veins.
What if I hurt her?
What if she doesn’t understand the way I love?
What if she never gets to understand me and what if I failed her just like I failed my mother?
I knew I was scared of love.
I shook the complicated thoughts off my head, it wasn’t going to happen, and I never planned on having a mate.
I would end up being a single Alpha and hand over the pack whenever I get tired of ruling to someone else.
“I won’t ever fall in love with her.”
