Chapter 39
DAPHNE
I still had on the makeup from the Alpha’s birthday party. My face was totally messed up by the mascara as a result of the crying.
The thought that Jordan would be marking Eleanor made my heart ache. Why do I feel heartbroken thinking about it? He's not even my mate, and I’m a breeder… accused of being a blood sucking freak too. My life is totally messed up, if I were Jordan, I wouldn’t want to be with me.
My eyes widened the moment I heard a click on the switch outside and the light went off. Darkness embraced the cell, and I panicked. Since I got my wolf, the night blindness became better, but I’ve never stopped being scared while in the dark. It brings up the trauma I felt when my mother died in the fire.
“What’s going on?” I asked no one in particular, trying to spring up from the ground where I sat, but my left leg was cramping so bad.
Thankfully, the small holes on the wall made the cell not to be entirely dark. The chains used to lock the keys of the cell gate clanked, and the door threw open.
I couldn’t see the face, but I knew it was a lady servant. She had a glass of chilled water with her, and I gulped. I had been dying of thirst.
“Here.” She said in an unrecognizable voice, and I hesitantly took the glass from her. When she brought her hands closer, I saw a cross tattoo on the back of her wrist.
I was too thirsty to think straight, so I gulped down the content of the glass as she walked away, and locked the cell. The light came back on, almost immediately.
After a few seconds, I felt dizzy, and my eyes turned in circles as I passed out.
Strangely, I found myself beside an old well at the Dark Iron pack… the pack where I originally came from. My heart sank. Did Jordan take me back to my father?
My eyes went straight to the dress I had on. I expected a torn, worn-out dress…hand-me-down clothes from my stepsister, but shockingly, I was dressed in an elegant outfit. My eyes caught with the shadow in the face of the water, and I gasped. I even had makeup on and a crown placed on my head.
“When did I become a princess in the Dark iron pack?” I thought out loud.
“Because you are meant to be a princess, not a maid.” A voice said from behind, and I flinched.
I turned around swiftly, and saw a strange man, sitting on the rock at the other side. “Who… Who are you? And why am I here?”
“You’re meant to be a princess, Daphne.” His voice was convincing, but I didn’t sound pleased to hear him say what he said.
I shook my head, aggressively. “No. Who are you?”
“I am your kin. You’re my kind, and you’re royalty. Team up with your kind, and have these treacherous wolves cleared from the surface of the earth.” His words were persistent, and that got me confused.
“Wolves? I am a werewolf, why would I betray my kind?” This time, my voice wasn’t weak. It was filled with defense and fury.
He laughed, coldly. And my eyes popped out in astonishment as I saw the fangs. “A vampire?” I gasped, clasping my left palm over my mouth, shivering.
“Yes, a vampire.” He replied, and I stepped backwards in fear. “I can’t be a vampire. I’m a werewolf. I can’t be a blood sucking creature.”
He shook his head. “You’re both, Daphne. You have the blood of an f****** blood sucking creatures running through your veins. Your kind are becoming extinct because of those murderous wolves, and only you can help us…”
“No. Get the hell out of here. Don’t come close to me. I can’t be a murder. I definitely didn’t hurt Margaret.” I retorted with a shaky voice.
“DENOUNCE THE WEREWOLVES, DAPHNE.” His voice echoed, and my eyes snapped open.
Beads of sweat ran down my face. Was that a dream? Why didn’t it feel so real? Why did I pass out? My heart was pounding as if it were going to jump out of my body. I felt odd… like the powers in me were sealed.
“What is going on? What vampire?” I mumbled, still confused.
“Daphne.” I heard a faint voice, and my eyeballs turned blue.
“Athena?” I called, and my eyes grew as I saw my wolf, lying on the ground weakly.
She looked up at me, and shook her head. “I think our powers have been sealed.”
“Sealed? What?” I patted her furs, and she breathed wearily.
“The water? It wasn’t just ordinary water. Who gave me that?” I gasped.
Meanwhile, Eleanor walked into Jordan’s office with the most lustful smile. Her accomplice, Camilla, had told her that she gave me the water, and that brightened up her mood.
Jordan didn’t bother sparing a glance despite her loudness.
“Jordan.” She called out, patting his face, but he pushed her hand off like it was a plague. “Behave yourself, Eleanor.”
Her countenance changed, and she rolled her eyes at him. “We’re going to be mating tomorrow, and you’re keeping a long face, huh?”
“It’s just for a show, Eleanor. Learn to stay within your boundaries.” He snapped coldly.
Eleanor’s fist clenched in anger. She knew he didn’t love her, but she had expected at least a smile from him. Was she expecting too much?
“Well, I’m here because I want you to know the cost of my outfit for the mating ceremony. It’s a customized Chanel dress, and it costs $50,000.” She curtly replied, sitting on the couch with her legs crossed.
Jordan took a deep sigh, and mumbled almost inaudibly. “My Beta will have it sent to you, you can leave.”
Feeling neglected, Eleanor scoffed as she picked up her purse and walked out of the office.
The door creaked open after a few seconds, and Jordan yelled without looking towards the direction of the door. “Didn’t I tell you to leave? Theodore will send you the money. Scram!”
“Alpha?” Theodore’s voice made Jordan turn his gaze and sighed in relief when he saw that it was Theodore and not Eleanor.
Theodore smiled faintly. “Uhm… Alpha, I’ve got some clues.”
“Clues?” Jordan’s eyes grew in curiosity as he took the iPad from Theodore. “What is this?”
“I had the CCTV footage checked thoroughly, and this proves that Daphne was in her room when Margaret got bitten by the vampire.” Theodore explained.
A surge of excitement ran through Jordan’s spine as he smiled in fulfillment while staring at the screen of the iPad.
“I told you, I’d clear your name, pookie.” He smiled.
Chapter 40
The lights were flickering, and the lighted candles danced to the tone of the wind. The moon was bright, up in the sky and birds sang melodies in high-pitched voices.
However, it was an unusual night. Despite the moon that was sitting bright up in the sky, lightning and thunder kept rumbling.
The black witch sat on the rug with lit candles around her, forming a circle. She stared into the space with a short scepter on the ground and some weird looking beads. The globe ball was also placed in between my folded legs as she held a long bead that she used in her incantations.
“Hocus pocus… Alakazam” She mumbled, but the furious looking man who stood beside her, banged his fist on the table making her flinch and snap her eyes open.
The man pointed at a cracked but not broken egg on the table. “You said she’s here. Why hasn’t the egg hatched yet? Do you know how long I’ve waited for this day? When? When can I get this done with? My days are numbered, Witch. If things are not done quickly, my kind will become extinct.”
The witch cackled dryly. “Don’t worry, Vampire King. Your offspring will be brought to you. She has extraordinary powers… you can take revenge of the werewolves and take over both the humans, werewolves, and vampires.”
The King stared at the ring on his finger that had a fang carved on it. He smiled rather coldly as he glanced at the hourglass on the table. “Bring her back to me. She needs to come back.”
DAPHNE
The loud clanking made me snap my eyes open instantly. The gate of the cell was pushed open, and the guards walked in. I was still weak, so I didn’t even find my voice to speak to them.
They helped me up, and one of them carried me back to my room. I was gobsmacked… was I found innocent?
I laid on the bed, groaning in pain and they left the room. Oh, it felt so good to be on the soft, comfortable bed again. It’s been a week and 2 days since I was locked up in the cell.
My eyes went straight to the calendar on the wall, and my heart ached. “Saturday?” I mumbled, and tears filled my eyes.
Today was Saturday, and the day Alpha Jordan would be marking Eleanor. I forced a smile that was obviously painted with pain. “What were you expecting, Daphne? Have you forgotten your place? You’re just a nameless, omega… a breeder he bought with his money. You should be happy you’re not getting violated on his bed every day for a pup.”
The door swung open, and my eyes went straight to the entrance, hoping that it was Alpha Jordan, but I lowered my brows when Madam Dorothy rushed in. She had tears in her eyes as she quickly hugged me.
“Oh, my dear Daphne. You’re looking so pale and weak.” She cried out, and I burst into tears in her arms.
“I’m fine, Madam Dorothy. How did I get released?” I managed to ask as I disengaged the hug, with my brows furrowed in bewilderment.
She sighed. “The CCTV proved that you were in your room when the incident happened. But the bad news is that the culprit is yet to be apprehended.”
“Oh…” I shook my head. “And the… the ceremony when will it commence?” I felt like my heart was pierced with a dagger while I asked the question.
The woman patted my head, staring pitifully at me. “Oh, my poor Daphne. I know how much you love Jordan, and that this must be so hard on you.”
“What? Of course not.” I laughed as tears rolled down my face, and I quickly wiped it off. “Madam Dorothy, I should be happy that I finally have a place to call home. I’m just a slave that was sold to Jordan. Thinking that he might want to marry me is such a joke.”
“No, Daphne.” She shook her head, holding my wrist and speaking in the most passionate tone. “I raised the Alpha, and I know him way better than anyone else. I know that he cares about you so much, but I can’t tell why he had to go on with the engagement.”
I forced a smile at her. “It’s fine, madam Dorothy. I’m just so happy that I’ve been vindicated, but knowing that the killer might be out there somewhere makes me feel unsettled.”
“Don’t worry, dear. The Alpha has doubled the security. I’m sure this sort of situation won’t repeat itself again.” Madam Dorothy assured me, and continued. “You don’t have to go for the marking ceremony if you don’t want to.”
Smiling calmly, I shook my head in disagreement. “It’s okay, Madam Dorothy. I’m used to all of this. Just like everyone else in the pack, I’ll attend the ceremony.”
“If you say so, my dear. I’ll have the servants deliver a pretty dress for you, okay? And I will get you some medicine too. You don’t look too good.” She replied before leaving the room.
I collapsed into the bed, blinking rapidly to prevent the tears that had pricked my eyes from running down my face.
THE MARKING CEREMONY
JORDAN
Dressed in a black, luxurious suit that matched perfectly with the tie around my neck. My eyes went straight to Eleanor, who stood beside me. Her garment shimmered with the light reflected off the crystal stones, which were used to adorn the dress. Her hair was nearly packed into a bun, giving her an exceptional look. Likewise, her neck was bejewelled with a white, glittering pearl necklace. She was grinning from ear to ear while my face had no single trace of excitement on it.
“I’m so happy, Jordan.” She mumbled, and I rolled my eyes.
“At least one of us is.” I replied, rather absentmindedly.
Suddenly, my eyes caught the most beautiful figure I’ve come across. She had on a simple blue, short dress and a light makeup, giving her an extraordinary look. Her blonde hair was packed into a messy but delicate ponytail. Everything about her looked exquisite. None other than my sweet Daphne. She had a silver clutch purse that she held on to tightly.
Eleanor’s eyes grew in annoyance, and she sneered. No one would dare not turn to look at Daphne.
“Isn’t that the Alpha’s breeder?”
“That’s her. Poor thing. She’s just a baby making tool.”
I could hear the small talks, and that freaked me out.
“We are so pleased to be here today as witnesses to the marking ceremony of Alpha Jordan and Eleanor Gregory. After such a long wait, our Alpha is finally going to mark his Luna” One of the elders announced and the crowd cheered and applauded us.
“Now, Alpha Jordan and Eleanor… you may mark each other.” He added as Eleanor smiled widely.
I bent over to her neck region to mark her, but suddenly pushed her away making the crowd shrieked, confused.
