Chapter 24
JORDAN
I stared at the half moon from the window. My countenance was nothing to write home about. The thought that Daphne was lying lifelessly on the bed made my heart bleed.
“Who could have done this to her?” I asked no one in particular. Theodore heaved a sigh.
“Alpha, they’re trying hard to figure that out, but there are no traces to what led her to the storage room at the basement.” Theodore explained.
I clenched my fist in annoyance. “I want you to investigate that. Find out who lured her into the basement, and lighted an incense. She’s night blind, she could have died if I didn’t find her earlier.”
“Yes, Alpha.”
The door creaked open, and the doctor walked out from the room.
“How is she, doctor?” I asked desperately.
He sighed, shaking his head. “I’m afraid she’s not in a good condition, Alpha Jordan. She’s in a bad shape.”
“What? How? Is she going to make it?” I found myself asking curiously. No matter how hard I tried to fight it, the nervousness I felt couldn’t be suppressed.
“I can’t assure you anything, Alpha. The incense is very harmful to her. Especially it worsens her situation because of her night blindness. I can only try my best, and hope that she will get better.” The doctor replied.
I banged my fist against the table, freaking everyone out. “No. You must do everything and anything you can to save her. She mustn’t die.”
“I can’t promise you anything, my Alpha. But I’ll try my best to help her.” The doctor replied before leaving.
Madam Dorothy turned her gaze at me with pity written all over her face. She’s got to be the only one who understands how I feel. Losing the people I love and care about has always been my most difficult challenge.
When I lost my parents, I almost killed myself, but Madam Dorothy stood by me. So, she knows exactly how pained I feel seeing the woman I’ve grown to love genuinely at the verge of death.
“She will survive this, Jordan. Daphne is a strong girl. She’s a fighter, okay? All her life, she had been fighting. A mere incense can never get her killed.” Madam Dorothy assured me.
Gulping hard, I mumbled. “She’s my breeder, Ma’am Dorothy. If she dies, then it means I’d lose my… my money.”
“Oh, Jordan. I might be an old woman, but you don’t consider me to be a two-year-old, do you? It’s quite obvious that you’ve fallen in love with her. And I don’t see anything wrong with that because she is a nice girl.” Madam Dorothy laughed teasingly.
“Madam Dorothy, you’re… you’re wrong. You seem to have forgotten that today is my engagement party with Eleanor. Daphne and I are…” I stammered.
Madam Dorothy laughed a little, and patted my shoulder. “You don’t have to say anything, Jordan. It’s written all over you. You just don’t want to admit it, and that makes me wonder why you’re planning to get married to Eleanor, who you obviously don’t have feelings for.”
With that, she walked out of the room. Burying my forehead into my palms, I sat on the bed, staring at Daphne’s calm face.
“I’m sorry, pup. I’m sorry I had to drag you into this mess. I’ll find out who did this to you, and I’ll make sure they pay dearly for hurting you.” I said while kissing her forehead.
***
I sat on the couch in my office, tapping my legs to the rhyme of the music playing. Theodore stood at the other end of the room.
The door creaked open, and Eleanor walked in with smiles all over her face.
“Jordan.” She called out, and tried to kiss me, but I pushed her away. Her brows curled in astonishment and confusion.
“What’s up? What’s going on, Jordan? I mean, what’s with the long face?” She asked with a confused look.
Backing her, I said coldly. “Do you know why I called you here?”
“What? If I knew why you sent for me here, then I wouldn’t bother coming, right!” She mumbled.
“Do you actually think I wouldn’t find out what you did to Daphne?” I asked sternly.
Shocked, she staggered backwards, blinking rapidly. “Daphne? What are you trying to say, Alpha Jordan? I don’t understand you.”
“You dare to look me in the eyes, and lie to my face, huh? So you and your friend thought that I wouldn’t find out, right? How dare you?” My voice was filled with rage and displeasure.
Her face went pale, and her hands shaky. “I… I had nothing to do with that. It was all Rebecca’s plan and idea. She… she did it because of me. I… I really didn’t know that she was night blind.”
“Really? And you expect me to believe you, huh? Do you need anyone to tell you how deadly I can be when it comes to messing around with things that belong to me? I see you have a dead wish.” I turned my gaze at her. The gaze was filled with despise and contempt.
She went numb. I could visibly scare she was. “Beta?” I called.
“Yes, Alpha.”
“Pass her the papers.” I snapped.
Without hesitation, Theodore passed the papers to her. She stared at Theodore and I perplexed. Reluctantly, she opened the file, and her eyes popped wide in shock.
“Proposal termination?” She freaked out.
I smirked. “Well, at least you’re not as dumb as I thought you are. It’s good that you can read.”
“Jordan? I… are you going to call our engagement and the contract agreement between my father’s company and yours just because of that omega girl?” Eleanor gushed in astonishment and disbelief.
“Yes. I am not going to do that because I already did. The proposal is off, the contract is terminated, and our engagement is canceled. Take the information to your father.” I said with a dismissive tone.
She scoffed. “What? Is this because of that f****** bi×ch? I had nothing to do with what happened to her. Besides, I never knew she was night blind and pathetic.”
“Shut the f*** up. You have no excuse. You should be grateful that I’m letting you go after you hurt her. Furthermore, you know what I’m capable of, don’t you? Not only that, but you should be thankful that I didn’t bankrupt your pack’s firm. Let me warn you, don’t you dare lay your hands on Daphne again.” I yelled at her.
She gulped hard. “Jordan… I’m sorry… I didn’t…”
“One more word, and I’ll have your pinky fingers cut off and fed to you. Get the hell out of my office.” I screamed at her coldly.
“Yes… Yes, Alpha.” She stuttered as she ran out of my office in tears.
Chapter 25
JORDAN
“You’re a monster, Jordan. You don’t deserve to be loved. You killed your father and your mother, and you want to live peacefully, huh? How is that possible? You don’t deserve happiness. Your life will be filled with sorrow, and you will never stop hurting your loved ones.”
The voice slapped me hard. I was standing a void, dark space staring at nothing. The voice didn’t stop echoing.
“No. I’m not a monster, And I will never hurt my loved ones. Stop lying to me.” I summoned courage and yelled back at the unknown voice.
However, the voice became fiercer and colder. “Hahaha… How can you not be a monster after killing your parents? You don’t deserve to be loved, Jordan. You deserve to be alone,
haunted, and miserable. The only thing you would bring to the one who loves you is pain and suffering.”
“No! No!! No…” I screamed, and snapped my eyes open. I stared around the office, sweating profusely.
Furthermore, I was already used to these dreams. Sleeping peacefully is something I have never experienced for the past 20 years of my life. I had already called off my engagement with Eleanor, but I felt like it wasn’t a good idea… I don’t feel anything to her, which means I would never hurt her. But I can’t say the same for Daphne because I know that I genuinely love her.
I’m cursed… I’m a monster. Likewise, I mean, I killed both of my parents. Furthermore, I
can’t afford to hurt Daphne. If it means keeping my distance from her, then I will.
The door creaked open, drawing my attention to the entrance. Madam Dorothy walked in with a cup of chilled water.
“Alpha Jordan? Are you okay? You look so tensed.” She handed the glass to me, and I gulped down the content of the glass.
Heaving a sigh, I replied. “The nightmares again.”
“Oh, my dear. Don’t let those bother you. You’re a changed person now…” Madam Dorothy tried to comfort me.
“No, Madam Dorothy. I am not a changed person, and you know it. I’m a monster… I don’t deserve to be loved and cared for by anyone. Have you forgotten what happened 2 years
ago? Have you forgotten how I almost ripped your heart out of your chest.” My voice was filled with grief and sadness.
Madam Dorothy exhaled deeply. “Jordan, That happened a long time ago, and it was only a mistake. That doesn’t mean that you are a monster or that you don’t deserve to be loved.”
“I would rather not hurt her. She’s already on that sick bed because of me. I don’t want her to feel more pain.” I shook my head.
The last two years, I almost had Madam Dorothy killed. In fact, that was not the first time her life was threatened by me. Being the only one who accepted me and took care of me despite knowing that I could harm her at any time, madam Dorothy is like a mother to me.
She was my late mother’s friend, and she never hesitated to come to my aid. However, that day, I got agitated and shifted into my wolf and nearly killed her if she hadn’t escaped my grip. She was hospitalized for a few months before she recovered. Even after recovery, she still refused to leave my side.
DAPHNE
“Daphne!”
I heard the faint voice. I saw myself sitting on the ground in a garden. The garden was so beautiful and huge. Staring around the garden, I spotted a big white wolf… its furs were so shiny and the eyes glowed like the sun. Its eyeballs were purple.
“
Who are you?” I asked as I approached it with countable steps.
“I’m Athena, your wolf.”
“My wolf?” I jumped for joy. “Athena. I finally found my wolf. Just when I thought I was cursed, and will never have a wolf.”
“The moon goddess has seen your courage, kind heart and diligence. So she decided to grant you a wolf.” The wolf said.
Then, I stared around the garden with my eyebrows furrowed. “Where is this? Am I dead? What am I doing here?”
“You’re not dead. Our mission is yet to be finished. So, until then, no one can hurt us. Go, Daphne! Go…” Her voice rented in the air.
I quickly snapped my eyes open. My eyeballs glowed like the sun for a few seconds. I turned to the other side of the bed, and saw Alpha, Jordan. He rested his head on the bed.
“He has been keeping company.” I mumbled with smiles.
I patted his curly hair. “Jordan?”
Jordan quickly opened his eyes, and smiles filled his face. “You’re awake. And you just got your wolf. Doctor Greg… Please come.”
**
The doctor checked my pulse with smiles on his face. Placing the stethoscope back around his neck, he began. “Alpha, your breeder is really exceptional. Have you heard of the Gifted Wolf?”
“Gifted Wolf? I have heard a little about it. But I have never seen one. What is it?” Jordan curled his brows.
“What does that mean?” I asked anxiously.
Heaving a deep sigh, The doctor replied. “It is very rare and special. The Moon Goddess blesses the Gifted Wolf. These species of werewolves has a unique ability and power. And
their bloods are compelling and special too. I’m very sure that Daphne is a Gifted Wolf.”
“I am? I’m a Gifted Wolf?” I raised my brows in shock and astonishment.
Jordan’s eyebrows furrowed immediately. “Is that why the Black witches are after her? But what does she have to do with the witches?”
“Actually, the vampires are the ones who randomly attack Gifted Wolves because they’re special. Black witches? Why would they attack her?” The
Doctor shook his head.
“I have to find out what you have to do with the Black witches.” Alpha Jordan replied.
Chapter 26
UNKNOWN
“Black witch, isn’t it time yet? The egg is about to hatch… I can see the black cracks on it. I’m losing my patience.” The Vampire King briskly uttered.
The black witch, whose eyes were shut all along, quickly snapped her eyes open with her face showing panic and disappointment.
The vampire King glared at her, he was confused and furious. “What is going on, black witch? Why is the egg not hatching already?”
“The Gifted Wolf… she has emerged finally…” The Black Witch said with her voice shaking.
The behavior of the witch made the Vampire King worry. He had never seen her this astonished before. He was beginning to wonder if anything had gone wrong with his plans. “If she has emerged like you said, why then do you look horrible? Shouldn’t that be good news?”
“I wish it was, My King. I truly wish it was…” The Black witch placed her long black nails on the globe ball on the table opposite her. Her eyes were filled with disapproval and annoyance.
“What? I have been planning this for centuries. My kind cannot go extinct… I’ve waited for so long for the Gifted Wolf to come. Even before the Gifted Wolf was born, I’ve already started waiting for its arrival.” The Vampire King was already vibrating with anger.
The Black witch sighed. “I saw her… but strangely, she’s in the Red Moon Pack. The prophecy said she would be born into the Dark Iron pack, but I perceive a faint smell of her there. She’s now in the Red Moon pack.”
“Red Moon Pack? Alpha Jordan? How did she end up there? How do we get a hold of her if she’s under the protection of Alpha Jordan?” The vampire King queried. His eyes were bloodshot, and his voice croaked.
However, The black witch maintained a calm look. “We can get her, My King. Even with the protection of the powerful Alpha of the Red moon pack, there must be away to lure her out of the pack house.”
“How? I’m sure you know what will happen. If we fail to get that girl to this coven, the plans might backfire. Damn witch, my kind must be brought back. And I must revenge the werewolves for destroying the vampires centuries back.” His voice was filled with bitterness.
“I know how important this is to you, My King. We are this close to achieving success after so many years. Don’t worry, my king, we must get a hold of the Gifted Wolf.” The witch assured.
ELEANOR
“Bartender! More bottles of liquor.” I yelled as I emptied the third bottle of whiskey into a glass.
My heart was heavy. The torn paper of proposal and contract was placed in front of me. Staring at the paper made my heart bleed.
All my life, all I’ve ever done was love and respect Alpha Jordan. We’ve been friends since childhood, and I was so sure that I was going to be his Luna since there was no other woman in his life. Well, until that useless omega, Daphne, appeared.
I’m pathetic, right? I know… Loving someone for so long, and getting rejected after a public engagement party, is definitely the height of embarrassment.
The bartender brought the extra bottles I requested, and placed it on the table. “Ma’am, payment?”
Without even staring at him, I made for my purse and brought out a credit card. “Swipe it, you dummy.”
He took the card from me, swiped it and had me input my password before handing it back to me. Running my hands into my hair, I tucked my hair behind my ears.
“Cowards… cowards don’t deserve to be in this universe. If you’re hurt by someone, you have to revenge. Isn’t that right?” A voice came, calm and intimidating.
My eyes flashed open, and I stared at the female figure in front of me with furrowed brows. “Who are you?”
She laughed coldly and continued. “Someone who is here to help you. Someone you’d want to collaborate with. This is the opportunity you’ve been waiting for.”
“Collaborate with?” I scoffed. “I don’t even know you. Why would I trust you? Besides, I can perceive your scent. You’re definitely a witch.” I snorted at her.
“Whether I’m a witch or not, I don’t think you should care about that. What you should care about is the help I’ll give you, Miss Eleanor.” The witch laughed maliciously.
However, I got more confused as to why she knows my name and what she needs me for. “I don’t know who you are, and I don’t care who you are. Trust me, this is bad timing for
your games. I’m not in the mood for playing around.”
She shook her head, while making a tutting sound. “Are you sure that you won’t regret your choice of words?”
“What the heck do you want? I’m in such a bad mood that I wouldn’t want to exchange words with a goddamned witch.” I yelled at her, and she smirked.
“I can help you get back your Luna title, Miss Eleanor. That won’t be a difficult task for me.” She continued.
My eyes grew in astonishment and desire. No one else knows of the cancellation of engagement, how did she know about it? Why is she so interested in me?
“What? Why? What do you need in return?” I asked with a shaky voice.
She cackled chaotically for a while before replying. “I’m glad to know that you know how this works. You can only get something when you give something. You’re wise, Eleanor. I’ll help you only if you can hand this young lady to me… Alive.”
The witch brought out a picture from the pocket on her jacket. My eyes pooped out in
shock as a gasp escaped my mouth when I saw the picture.
It was Daphne’s picture.
“What? Daphne?”
