Reborn for revenge-my husband is mine - Chapter 39

Chapter 39

 Here’s to a pleasant partnership

Lucas was drawn to Savannah's confidence. He agreed, but let out a cold laugh, threatening.
"You'd better be telling the truth," he said.
"This isn't some cheap seduction stunt you just came up with, is it?"
Faced with his intimidation, Savannah remained unfazed. She knew that the plan she'd devised was close to flawless.
Eventually, Savannah confidently followed behind Lucas, climbed onto his motor, and joined him in the race, wearing a self-satisfied grin.
It was only then that Savannah realized she'd been far too smug, far too soon.
As the race began, every motor shot forward, faster than the wind itself. The roar of engines faded into a deafening rush of air past her ears.
Lucas's motor was no exception.
In fact, Lucas was leading.
His motor tore through the air, and Savannah's clothes flapped wildly in the wind. Her heart pounded violently in her chest. She squeezed her eyes shut, too afraid to keep them open, for every glance showed her a dizzying view of the winding mountain roads.
The uphill path was nearly vertical, and the road itself was so narrow that only one motor could pass at a time.
One careless slip - just one - and they'd plunge straight off a sheer cliff.
Savannah's fingers tightened until they turned white, unconsciously gripping the edge of Lucas's jacket, clinging to whatever sense of safety she could find.
Her face had turned utterly pale, drained of all color.
Perhaps sensing the fear radiating from Savannah behind him, Lucas sneered.
"Scared now? I warned you from the beginning," he said, his voice dripping with mockery.
"It's too late for regrets."
He had no intention of comforting her. On the contrary, he taunted her without mercy while twisting the throttle to push the speed even further.
"At this point, jumping off the cliff might be safer than staying on my motor."
Just then, the mountain road widened slightly, enough for two motors to ride side by side.
And at that very moment, another motor, ridden by one of Lucas's friends, a man Savannah didn't recognize, sped past them, engine roaring with pride as he overtook Lucas and claimed the lead.
Savannah heard the mocking voice ring out just as the other motor sped past.
"Lucas, what's with the weak racing today? Got soft 'cause you're giving the pretty girl a ride?"
The taunt hit its mark, instantly igniting Lucas's competitive spirit. He merely gave Savannah a cold warning to hold on tight before twisting the throttle with near-maniacal force.
His red motor shot forward like an arrow on the mountain path, cutting through every turn with incredible speed and skill. Savannah looked ahead - at the cliffs, at the nearly spiral-like road winding up the mountain - and deeply regretted ever showing up here.
But that wasn't the worst of it.
When Lucas finally caught up and overtook his friend's motor, the latter, surprised, swerved slightly and bumped into Lucas's motor. Though Lucas had top-tier riding skills, even he couldn't have predicted that. The wheel slipped off the track for a moment, nearly sending them plummeting off the side of the mountain.
"Damn it..."
Lucas's furious voice rang out as Savannah sat frozen in fear, barely daring to breathe. Her face was even paler than paper, and her fingernails dug so deep into her skin they nearly drew blood.
Thankfully, in the end-
Lucas managed to regain control and steer the motor back onto the track, narrowly avoiding disaster.
Every remaining second of the race was pure torment for Savannah.
Fortunately, in the final stretch, Lucas clinched victory, crossing the finish line a full ten seconds ahead of the runner-up.
He dismounted his motor with swagger, wearing his signature half-smile as he waved smugly to the roaring crowd.
As for Savannah behind him-
The only word that could describe her condition was: miserable.
Her once sleek and glossy hair was now a tangled mess, like a bird's nest, completely beyond smoothing down.
Her face had gone pale, sickly even, as if she were unwell, her expression utterly blank.
She walked in a daze, each step unsteady, as though she might collapse at any moment.
And when she saw Lucas's smile, she visibly trembled.
"What's wrong? Weren't you full of confidence earlier?"
"If you know what's good for you, stay away from me next time. If you're weak, don't go chasing storms."
Lucas sneered as Savannah walked over. But Savannah was the textbook definition of stubborn; she still wouldn't back down, even now. Instead, she provoked him.
"So what?"
"Don't forget, you still have a meeting with me."
"To negotiate about toppling your rival."
Lucas took a water bottle from Felix and tilted his head back, downing half of it in one go. Only then did he respond carelessly.
"No need to set a date. Let's do it today."
"Felix's bar will do. Private room should be private enough, right?"
Savannah didn't entirely agree, but feared saying more might make Lucas change his mind, so she nodded.
She waited for Lucas to accept his prize and finish chatting with his friends before heading to the bar with him.
Clearly, Lucas's motor had left such a mental scar on her that she opted to take a taxi instead of letting him give her a ride.
Given Savannah's flirtatious and affected manner, Lucas didn't place much importance on whatever she was about to say.
However, the conversation at the bar changed his mind.
The usual mocking expression on Lucas's face gave way to something far more serious as he listened to Savannah lay out her plan.
He was paying close attention, catching every word.
"Well? Is that enough to get you interested?"
Savannah swirled the wine glass in her hand with smug satisfaction, raising an eyebrow as she looked at Lucas, clearly pleased with herself.
Lucas remained silent for a long moment before responding slowly.
"The plan sounds good. But how can you be sure things will go as expected?"
Everything looks flawless on paper, but reality rarely cooperates.
Lucas knew that all too well.
But Savannah dismissed his doubts with confidence.
"Don't worry, Lucas. Have you forgotten I'm still a Nichols?"
Her eyes narrowed as she took a sip of her drink and continued.
"Though right now, that bitch Sigourney's scheming got me stripped of my status in the family..."
"I still have the connections. I still know who to bribe to get what I want."
Savannah reassured him, then leaned in and whispered a few more words.
It was only then that Lucas's eyes gleamed with a cruel, sinister light.
"In that case, this plan is impressive enough to catch me off guard."
Savannah added a few more words, then concluded,
“If the plan moves quickly, I think it won’t be long before you gain control over Theodore’s key projects.”
She giggled, eyes gleaming with cruelty.
Lucas swirled the wine lazily in his glass, his gaze detached.
“I think I might have one more surprise for your plan.”
“To make sure Theodore and Sigourney are completely torn apart.”
He said it with an air of mystery.
Savannah, intrigued, pressed him for details, but he offered none—
only telling her she’d see for herself when the time came.
“So, what are your conditions for this partnership?”
Lucas wasn’t a fool.
There was no way Savannah would hand him such a beneficial plan without asking for something in return.
Savannah admired that sharpness in him. She gave a graceful smile.
“Relax, my terms are very reasonable.”
“Make that bitch Sigourney get cast out by the Nichols family. Clear the path so I can be with Theodore.”
If things went smoothly, that demand was indeed acceptable.
Lucas smiled faintly and agreed.
Once the deal was sealed, he stretched his arms leisurely.
“Then, here’s to a pleasant partnership.”
Savannah giggled as she shook his hand.

Chapter 40

Cosplayed as a seductive secretary

On a beautiful mid-month morning,
Sigourney and Venus departed from the Twilight estate en route to the airport.
Today, they would be heading to City Z to deliver gifts to those in need.
As the CEO and lead overseer of the Nichols charity project,
it was only natural for Sigourney to be present.
"Everything is fully prepared, boss,"
Venus reported while glancing through her iPad in the car.
"We'll first arrive in City Z to check into the hotel, have lunch, and rest."
Adjusting her glasses, Venus added,
"This afternoon, we'll begin distributing scholarships and school supplies to students. In this round, 342 scholarships and gift packages will be handed out."
"Tomorrow, we'll attend the ribbon-cutting ceremony to mark the groundbreaking of three pilot schools: a kindergarten, a primary school, and a secondary school."
After Theodore proposed that the two corporations collaborate in building charitable schools,
the procedures were swiftly finalized, and the contract had already been signed.
Following an extended period of land planning, project development, and architectural design,
today,
the plan was finally beginning to take shape.
Sigourney, clearly pleased with Venus's meticulous report, offered praise.
"All right, I understand. Thank you for the update."
By that time, they had arrived at the airport.
The private chauffeur courteously helped them carry their luggage inside once the car came to a stop,
then respectfully, he took his leave.
They had arrived early to check in, so after completing all procedures, there were still about twenty minutes left before takeoff.
Taking the opportunity to have breakfast together in the business lounge,
Sigourney initiated small talk to ease the atmosphere.
"This business trip won't be over until tomorrow afternoon, so we probably won't return to our city until evening. Will that interfere with any of your personal plans?"
As Sigourney's most trusted assistant, Venus accompanied her on every trip. That's why Sigourney was concerned that this work assignment might disrupt something important for her.
Venus smiled, reassuring Sigourney as she finished a sip of orange juice.
"Don't worry about me, boss. There's nothing more important than work."
She giggled softly.
"It's just... my boyfriend was planning to celebrate our two-year anniversary tonight,
but of course, with the business trip, we'll have to postpone it."
"He was sulking, and I had to coax him for quite a while," she added with a teasing smile.
Sigourney took a bite of her croissant, then playfully teased Venus that she'd better pamper and make it up to him properly afterward.
Venus shot back with a grin,
"What about you and Mr. Wang? You're about to celebrate your second wedding anniversary, too, aren't you? Any special plans?"
"And what about your first anniversary. How did you two celebrate it? I'm sure it was something incredibly romantic, right?"
Sigourney was the textbook definition of a workaholic, so immersed in her job that she often lost track of time.
It wasn't until Venus brought it up that she remembered their second anniversary was approaching.
As for the first anniversary?
Sigourney narrowed her eyes, trying to recall.
At that time, she had still been under Savannah's psychological manipulation,
seeing her marriage to Theodore as nothing more than a prison.
She had "celebrated" the occasion by threatening to jump off a building if Theodore refused to sign the divorce papers.
Looking back, Sigourney couldn't help but think that her version of a wedding anniversary was something no one would ever want to remember.
Of course, Sigourney couldn't tell the truth, so she replied half-heartedly,
"Anniversary? Please, Theodore and I are already like an old married couple."
"We don't need to do those cheesy things."
"That stuff's only for young couples still in love, like you guys."
She took a sip of watermelon juice to brush off the awkwardness, but Venus clearly didn't agree.
"No way, boss. 'Old married couple'? You two are still young!"
"Do you want me to suggest a romantic and totally surprising idea for Mr. Wang?"
Venus leaned closer across the table, her tone suddenly mysterious.
"For our one-year anniversary, I did something and my boyfriend absolutely loved it."
"To this day, he still brings it up sometimes."
Naturally, that piqued Sigourney's curiosity. What kind of surprise could be so unforgettable and special?
Seeing the interest in Sigourney's eyes, Venus leaned in and whispered in her ear.
"I bought a sexy lace lingerie set and cosplayed as a seductive secretary, while my boyfriend played the role of a cold and distant CEO."
"I even wore black lace stockings. He liked it so much he ripped them off that night."
Venus giggled shyly.
"Boss, want me to share where I bought it?"
She winked.
"The fabric's amazing, soft, and comfy. Not like those cheap, flashy ones people keep advertising that just irritate your skin."
"I had to search for ages to find a shop this good. I wouldn't share it if we weren't close," she added with a smirk.
Sigourney blushed hard, brushing it off with a vague "Maybe later."
But her eyes drifted slightly as she quietly pondered what Venus had said.
Venus, being the perceptive assistant she was, gently sent the shop link to Sigourney via message, then grinned to herself with satisfaction.
By the time they finished their meal, it was nearly time for their flight.
Even after boarding the plane and landing in City Z, Sigourney - still flustered - didn't dare initiate a conversation with Venus.
When they checked into the hotel, Venus noticed Sigourney seemed quite exhausted. She let her check in and rest for a while, suggesting they go out for lunch once she felt better.
Sigourney agreed.
After tidying up the room and putting away her belongings, Sigourney finally had a moment to call Theodore and let him know she had arrived safely.
The phone had barely rung three times when he picked up.
"Sigourney, you've arrived?"
Theodore's voice was urgent yet full of tenderness, instantly reminding Sigourney of what Venus had told her that morning-
and her eyes welled up with sudden emotion.
She gently shifted the topic.
"Yes, I've arrived. Just checked into the hotel."
"Everything's fine."
"How's work at the corporation?"
Originally, both corporations had planned to collaborate on the project, so Theodore was supposed to attend the ribbon-cutting ceremony with Sigourney.
However, due to a heavy workload at the corporation and the need to closely monitor all ongoing projects in case Richard retaliated, Theodore wasn't able to accompany Sigourney.
"No worries. Everything's under control."
The two chatted briefly before hanging up.
After taking a short rest, Sigourney went to lunch with Venus.
By the afternoon, she carefully applied her makeup and changed into the elegant business attire she had prepared in advance, a pink silk blouse paired with a long A-line skirt.
Together with Venus, she headed to the venue where they would be awarding scholarships to the students.
It was an old auditorium, somewhat dilapidated from the outside,
but it was the best facility available in this impoverished city.
Following protocol,
Sigourney stepped up to deliver a prepared speech,
then smiled gently, as if she had practiced it many times,
and personally handed out scholarships and gifts to 342 students.
The event went rather smoothly,
though the large number of gifts
left Sigourney's arms aching.
After handing out the gifts,
Sigourney returned to her seat and listened attentively as the city leaders of Z expressed their gratitude.
Throughout the entire process, she kept her back straight and wore the composed, courteous smile she had grown accustomed to.
Everything had gone as planned—
save for one unexpectedly sweet moment.
Just as Sigourney stepped out of the venue and was about to leave with Venus,
a sweet, childlike voice suddenly called out behind her, still tinged with innocence:
“Pretty sister Sigourney, wait a moment!”
Startled, Sigourney turned around.
She saw a little girl, around seven or eight years old, her hair in braided pigtails and wearing a slightly worn pink dress, running toward her.
Sigourney recognized her; it was one of the girls who had received a scholarship from her earlier.
The child’s expression was pure and bright, full of innocence. She smiled sincerely as she spoke to Sigourney:
“Thank you, sister Sigourney, for giving me the scholarship. If it weren’t for that,
my parents might have made me help them with farm work instead.”
“They wouldn’t have had the means or money to let me go to school.”
The little girl let out a soft sigh at the thought of her situation, and Sigourney’s heart ached with sympathy.
She gently patted the girl’s head, about to offer some comforting words,
when she noticed the child’s face light up with a bright smile.
“I don’t have anything valuable to give you,” the girl said,
“but I used my savings to buy you this box of cakes.”
Beaming, she took out an intricately wrapped paper box from an old fabric bag.
“These are red velvet cakes from the most famous bakery in our city.”
“They probably don’t taste as good as the cakes you’ve had before, but I hope you won’t mind.”
With both hands outstretched and great care, the little girl offered the box to Sigourney, her tone utterly sincere.
“I had to save up for a long time to buy them. Kids like us don’t usually get to eat things like this.”
The girl’s heartfelt gesture melted Sigourney’s heart.

Chapter 41

I think you should ask your husband, Theodore

She reached out to accept the box of cakes, speaking sincerely,
"Thank you. I will cherish it."
The little girl's smile grew even brighter upon hearing Sigourney's reply. Then, she repeatedly thanked Sigourney for the scholarship, expressing just how much it meant to her.
As she saw Sigourney off, she waved enthusiastically, her small hand fluttering with genuine joy.
Once in the car, Sigourney looked at the intricately crafted paper box in her hands and suddenly felt that this gift was truly precious.
"Help me find out the name of that little girl, please. Also, send her an additional donation from me."
Sigourney said gently to Venus.
Such a kind heart deserved to be cherished, and Sigourney wanted to give something in return.
Venus nodded and immediately set to work on the task.
Meanwhile, Sigourney leaned against the window, gazing at the cityscape of Z, then carefully opened the box of pastries and began to eat, slowly and deliberately.
It was very sweet.
This cake, perhaps sweeter than any red velvet she had ever tasted in her own city.
...
That evening,
Sigourney and Venus dined at a well-known restaurant in city Z, quite a distance from the hotel where they were staying.
Though the flavors could not compare to those of the restaurants in their own city, it was decent enough, they couldn't ask for too much.
While they were eating, the skies suddenly opened up, and heavy rain began pouring down, as if the heavens had burst.
Venus looked out through the window at the sheets of rain, clicking her tongue in surprise.
"I checked the weather forecast yesterday, and it said there would only be light rain tonight. I didn't expect it to pour like this."
"Good thing we'd already arrived at the restaurant."
Sigourney made no comment, only feeling that the weather had been unusually unpredictable.
As they neared the end of their meal, Venus called the private driver arranged for them by the hotel.
He promptly answered, assuring them that he would come immediately and even offered to bring extra umbrellas to escort them.
Venus looked at the blinding downpour, her eyes following the streaks of rain cutting across the sky, and reminded the driver to be careful on the road and not to rush.
After finishing their meal, the two of them sat for a while, casually chatting, until the driver called. He said he would arrive in about ten minutes and asked them to get their belongings ready so they could come out at the right time-parking in front of the restaurant wasn't convenient for long.
Venus agreed and said they would head out soon to wait for him.
But just as they stepped out from the private dining room, they ran into the last person they expected to see-
Richard.
He was dining with his secretary, and when he saw Sigourney and Venus, he was just as surprised.
It would have been impolite not to greet them, so Richard took the initiative.
"What a coincidence. What brings the two of you here?"
Although Sigourney didn't particularly want to engage, she still replied.
"We came to present scholarships to students as part of the Nichols charity project. And you?"
Delighted that Sigourney responded, Richard answered enthusiastically,
"Ah, I'm here for a site inspection to assess the potential for a project."
Had Sigourney not simply let out a disinterested "Oh" in response, Richard might have been tempted to reveal all the project details right then and there.
While Richard and Sigourney were speaking, Venus's phone rang, it was the driver.
She quietly stepped aside to take the call and, after a short while, returned, her expression somewhat troubled as she looked at Sigourney.
"Boss, the driver says he's only about five minutes away from us, but the car suddenly broke down in the middle of this heavy rain."
"So he's really sorry, but he won't be able to pick us up."
Venus then promptly offered a solution,
"Should I contact the hotel and ask them to help us book another car?"
In this city, the transportation infrastructure was far from well-developed, making it difficult to hail a car. If they wanted a ride, they would have to contact the hotel directly.
Before Sigourney could reply, Richard generously offered,
"Why don't the two of you ride with us?"
Sigourney instinctively wanted to refuse; she didn't want to get too entangled with Richard. However, the way he persuaded her made her waver.
"It's pouring right now. There's no guarantee you'll be able to get a car. And even if you do, you'll probably have to wait at least half an hour,"
he said calmly.
"If the heavy rain continues, the roads might get flooded. Will the car even be able to reach the hotel then?"
Richard spoke with ease.
"Besides, our assistant is in the car as well, so don't worry. I won't do anything inappropriate."
He shrugged, speaking casually.
Sigourney hesitated for a long while, but in the end, she had no choice but to agree.
Richard's assistant stepped forward to hold an umbrella for them as they got into the car, then slowly drove off through the curtain of rain.
Naturally, Venus took the front passenger seat, leaving Sigourney and Richard in the back.
Sigourney gazed absentmindedly at the rain streaking down the car window. The silence inside the vehicle felt a little too heavy, a little too awkward,
so she decided to strike up a conversation with Richard.
After all,
he had been kind enough to offer her a ride.
"How's business going at your corporation these days? Still doing well?"
Sigourney tilted her head and asked, casually picking a random topic. She hadn't expected much from the question, yet once it was asked, there was no turning back.
The moment the words left her lips, Richard responded with a faint smile.
"I think if you want to know about that, you should ask your husband, Theodore. He would know best."
Seeing the vague confusion in Sigourney's eyes, Richard calmly elaborated, holding nothing back.
"The key project in the southern area that my corporation is developing, he built a ring road around it, effectively isolating the entire site."
"And that's not even the worst part,"
he continued, his tone light yet biting.
"Your husband went so far as to spread rumors that I knew the land would be isolated, yet still went ahead with building the residential area, urging buyers to invest early for preferential prices and promising to issue land-use rights certificates."
"So this scandal? It's no small matter. It's directly damaging both the reputation and financial standing of my corporation."
Richard laid bare Theodore's entire scheme right in front of Sigourney. After all, this was her first time hearing about it.
Theodore had merely told her that he would handle things properly and make Richard pay dearly for what had happened at the hotel. But he hadn't shared exactly what he was planning to do.
"Thanks to this surprise attack and the financial blows Theodore dealt earlier, the finances of my corporation are already in disarray."
"Key partners have pulled out of major projects, and our stock prices are in free fall."
After hearing Richard speak, Sigourney had no choice but to offer a polite, uneasy smile.
She was just about to steer the conversation in another direction to smooth things over when suddenly, the ringtone of her phone cut through the silence.
The caller, none other than the very person they had just been discussing, was Theodore.
Sigourney stared at the incoming call screen, falling silent in contemplation.
For a moment, she didn’t know whether she should answer or not.
Because she could feel it clearly, the way Richard was looking at her.
That gaze was laced with mockery, yet beneath it lay something deep and unreadable.

Chapter 42

I have a secret for you

In the end, Sigourney still chose to answer the call because she didn't want Theodore to wait.
And in the confined space of the car, every sound seemed magnified.
"Sigourney, where are you right now?"
"I heard there's heavy rain in City Z. Are you alright?"
The moment she picked up, Theodore's anxious voice rang out. Sigourney hastily turned the volume down, flustered, before gently replying.
"I'm fine, Theodore. Venus and I just finished dinner, we're heading back to the hotel now."
Of course, she didn't mention that she was currently with Richard.
"Are you sure? The roads aren't flooded, are they?"
"Tell the driver to slow down, alright? The roads get slippery when it rains, and visibility drops; he needs to be extra careful."
As always, Theodore's tone was calm and composed, his voice especially patient. Sigourney nodded along to everything he said, and just as she was settling into the rhythm of their exchange, she suddenly heard a tender question imbued with a magnetic warmth that stirred the heart.
"You haven't seen me all day, did you miss me?"
The unexpected question made Sigourney's cheeks flush red.
She vaguely sensed that Richard, upon hearing it, let out a cold, scornful smile.
Still, Sigourney smiled sincerely and admitted without hesitation.
"Of course. And what about you?"
Theodore chuckled softly upon hearing the answer he clearly wanted. He replied patiently,
"Of course I did. I miss you so bad. Right now, all I want is to see you."
"Are you almost back at the hotel?"
Sigourney glanced outside and replied seriously. It would take about five more minutes. Theodore, in a mysterious tone, said that once she arrived, he would have a secret for her, then ended the call, leaving Sigourney momentarily dazed.
After hanging up, Sigourney could distinctly feel the envy and hostility radiating from Richard beside her.
But she didn't particularly care.
When the car arrived at the hotel,
under Richard's subtle, unreadable gaze,
his assistant stepped forward to open the car door, holding an umbrella to escort Venus into the lobby first.
As for Richard, he casually took another umbrella from the car and stepped out into the rain. Holding it up, he opened the door on Sigourney's side, clearly intending to share the umbrella with her as they walked inside.
Sigourney eyed him cautiously. Richard shrugged.
"Hey, I'm not trying to flirt or anything."
"Or would you prefer my assistant to come back and fetch you? It's pouring out here, and moving around is a real hassle."
"Relax. We're just sharing an umbrella. What else could I possibly do to you?"
Sigourney gave him a sidelong glance before finally stepping out of the car.
Richard carefully held the umbrella over her, shielding her from the rain. And just as he said, he didn't make any inappropriate moves the entire way.
Sigourney gradually began to relax.
As they were nearing the hotel entrance,
a young boy suddenly darted out from inside,
charging straight into the rain.
He was running so fast, perhaps unable to control his momentum-
that he crashed hard into Sigourney,
causing her to stumble sideways, unsteady on her feet.
"Sigourney, careful!"
Richard didn't even have time to think.
On instinct, he caught her.
In his rush, he tilted the umbrella too far,
and within moments, one side of his shoulder and his hair were completely soaked.
The atmosphere between them at that moment could only be described as ambiguous.
Sigourney leaned forward slightly, her waist caught gently in Richard's hand as he helped her up with surprising tenderness.
His gesture was soft, yet warm, and he even tilted the umbrella entirely toward her side to keep her from getting wet.
Just as Sigourney regained her balance,
they heard a panicked voice calling from inside-
probably the mother of the boy who had just collided with her.
"Robin, where are you? It's raining! Why did you run outside?"
"That was far too dangerous."
Sigourney cleared her throat and softly thanked Richard.
Richard merely shrugged, an innocent look on his face.
The situation had happened so suddenly, obviously, he had caught her purely on reflex.
The two of them continued walking into the hotel lobby,
and it was at that exact moment
Sigourney finally understood what surprise Theodore had meant earlier.
He had arrived in City Z.
And he was standing in the hotel lobby, waiting for her.
However, at that moment,
understandably,
Sigourney could feel no excitement or joy.
Because the way Theodore was looking at her-
was cold.
And tinged with anger.
"Sigourney, I came here to surprise you."
Theodore shot Richard a glance colder than ice,
gritting out each word with barely restrained fury.
"But now, it seems... I'm the one who's surprised, isn't it?"
The fury radiating from Theodore was terrifying.
Even Venus and Richard's assistant, who stood nearby, seemed to shrink back instinctively, heads lowered, eyes fixed firmly on the ground.
Pretending to hear and see absolutely nothing.
Before Sigourney could even respond,
Richard feigned surprise as if just noticing Theodore.
His voice was overly dramatic as he replied,
"Theodore, oh, you're here too? What a coincidence."
Playing the role of a considerate man,
Richard took it upon himself to explain on Sigourney's behalf.
"Sigourney and I just happened to run into each other. I gave her a ride."
"We didn't have dinner together or anything."
He added, clearly pretending to be casual while sounding more suspicious than reassuring.
"And earlier, she just lost her balance a bit, so I helped her. Don't get the wrong idea."
"Men, don't be so petty."
His words were laced with mockery,
but Theodore showed no sign of emotion aside from the coldness in his eyes.
He wrapped an arm around Sigourney's shoulders in a clear display of possession,
letting out a cold chuckle as he addressed Richard.
"Well, thank you, CEO Lancaster, for giving my wife a lift."
"We'll talk another time."
"You see, my wife and I have been apart all day, we need some privacy to reconnect."
With that, Theodore lowered his hand to Sigourney's waist,
his grip tightened slightly as he pulled her close,
then led her away toward their room.
Naturally, Sigourney followed obediently.
As for Richard, he narrowed his eyes,
watching the pair's intimate retreat.
His gaze darkened,
lost in thoughts no one could read.
But Richard quickly composed himself.
He smoothly turned away, his expression calm once more, and walked off with his secretary.
Venus, too, offered a few polite words of thanks before quietly returning to her own room.
As for Sigourney,
she stood stiffly, uneasy as she led Theodore back to her room.
The moment they stepped inside,
she slowly inserted the room card into the slot on the wall.
As the lights flickered on,
Theodore suddenly seized her wrist and raised it above her head.
A hurried kiss descended upon her—
so abrupt it left Sigourney momentarily stunned.
Her lips were held firmly, to the point of gentle pain,
yet Theodore didn’t stop.
He kissed her deeply,
a silent display of jealousy and simmering anger from having seen her earlier with Richard.
His hand clutched hers tightly, fingers intertwining with an intimacy that left no room for escape.
Only after a long moment, when seemingly satisfied,
did Theodore pull away.
He lingered, licking his lips with reluctant affection.
His eyes bore into Sigourney’s,
then he leaned down to press a soft kiss to her neck,
his voice was a low whisper in her ear.
“Sigourney… when I saw you with Richard,
I felt awful—
and jealous.”
“So please… promise me…”
His voice grew raspier, thick with possessiveness.
“From now on, stay away from Richard, alright?
Don’t let him get close to you either.”
It was the first time Theodore had revealed such raw possessiveness,
and Sigourney found herself caught off guard.
Yet, strangely,
this side of him, so manly,
and so endearing.
She nodded in agreement,
then gently leaned in,
wrapped her arms tightly around his neck,
and kissed him,
her voice soft and sweet as she spoke:
“Alright.”
“From now on, I’ll only stay close to my husband. Is that okay?”
Theodore’s heart felt as if it might melt into a puddle right then and there.

Chapter 43: To satisfy my wife

Of course, that night was a sleepless one for Sigourney.
As if venting his frustration, Theodore's movements during their intimacy were rougher than usual-
and lasted far longer than usual.
Whether it was midnight,
or close to dawn,
Sigourney couldn't tell anymore.
But by the time she was completely exhausted,
limp and drained,
her body slumped weakly against Theodore's shoulder, too tired to even move,
he still showed no sign of stopping,
driven by a burning energy that seemed endless.
She moved along with his rhythm, her body trembling with pleasure,
yet too worn out to even moan.
Sigourney surrendered, wrapping her arms around Theodore's neck, whining softly.
"Can we stop, Theodore?"
"I can't take it anymore. It's too intense..."
Her hair clung to her forehead with sweat, her voice tearful and hoarse.
Her face was flushed, her eyes hazy and unfocused.
There were even faint tear streaks on her cheeks-
clearly showing how much she had endured.
Theodore kissed her gently, the kiss tender and reverent,
his tone was soothing as he coaxed her.
"Be good, just one more time."
"Then I'll let you sleep, alright?"
Not allowing any refusal, Theodore continued,
moving even faster.
Sigourney, dazed, clung to his shoulders, tears rolling down her cheeks from overwhelming pleasure.
"Don't... Theodore..."
"Slower..."
But Theodore kept pushing forward,
his pace rendering Sigourney's voice choppy and breathless.
He even teased deliberately.
"Didn't you say not slow? Alright then, I'll go faster."
"To satisfy my wife."
His voice was deep and husky as he spoke,
and he continued without pause.
He kissed the curve of her neck,
leaving behind a faint pink hickey-
a clear mark that Sigourney was his.
She was his wife.
Not until the first light of dawn crept into the room,
not until Sigourney's once-clear voice had turned hoarse,
did Theodore finally stop.
And Sigourney had already fallen asleep long ago-
too exhausted to stay awake any longer.
The next morning,
when Sigourney was awakened by the sound of the alarm clock,
she furiously hurled a pillow straight at Theodore.
The noise and the sudden impact stirred him from his sleep.
He turned over, pulled Sigourney into his arms, and coaxed her softly.
"Why are you assaulting your husband first thing in the morning?"
Theodore planted a light kiss on her lips, teasing.
"Is it because I didn't satisfy you last night? Is that why you're mad?"
"Don't be upset, how about I make it up to you tonight?"
At the mention of the previous night, Sigourney's face instantly flushed bright red.
Embarrassed, she lashed out in anger, glaring at Theodore.
"Stop talking nonsense."
"We still have to attend the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new school today."
Sigourney spoke slowly, each word straining her sore throat.
Her voice was slightly hoarse,
clearly the result of a night spent moaning until her voice broke.
Growing more irritated, she punched Theodore hard in the chest.
"This is all your fault. Listen to my voice,
how am I supposed to give a speech later?"
She was both aggrieved and angry,
but Theodore only gently took her hand, comforting her softly.
"It's alright. I'll speak on your behalf, okay?"
"My wife just needs to show up looking beautiful."
Theodore's attitude was always so kind, so patient,
that even in her fury, Sigourney couldn't bring herself to keep scolding or hitting him,
because it would've made her seem completely unreasonable.
But when Sigourney finished getting dressed and glanced at herself in the mirror, she was once again overcome with anger.
"Theodore."
"Look at what you've done!"
Sigourney shouted furiously, prompting Theodore to rush over at once.
"What's wrong, Sigourney?"
"Is something the matter?"
As Theodore stepped into the room and caught sight of the conspicuous love bite on Sigourney's neck, he immediately understood the reason for her outburst.
Today, Sigourney had planned to wear a V-neck blouse, perfectly cut to expose the hickey at the base of her neck.
Her anger was entirely justified.
Without needing Sigourney to say anything more, Theodore leaned in and gently kissed the mark on her neck, trying to placate her.
"Aren't you still as stunning as ever?"
"It's all my fault. I wasn't careful. I lost control last night."
"How about I find you a scarf to cover it up?"
Theodore's demeanor was utterly sincere, and his tenderness made it impossible for Sigourney to argue further.
She cast him a warning glare, but ultimately accepted the silk scarf he offered and obediently wrapped it around her neck to conceal the hickey.
The two of them left the room side by side, just in time to bump into Venus, who had been about to knock on their door.
Startled by the sudden opening, Venus froze for a moment at the sight of Sigourney and Theodore before quickly recovering.
"Good morning, Boss, Mr. Wang,"
she greeted calmly.
"The driver is already waiting in the hotel lobby."
Since Sigourney couldn't speak, she glanced at Theodore instead.
He offered a faint smile and thanked Venus on her behalf.
The three of them then stepped out together.
In the car, as usual, Venus calmly went over the detailed schedule of the ribbon-cutting ceremony and reminded Sigourney of the tasks she needed to handle.
"Boss, you'll be giving your speech right after the city officials, before the ribbon-cutting takes place..."
Venus carefully reiterated the timing so Sigourney could mentally prepare.
Sigourney gave a soft cough.
Theodore immediately understood and responded with a faint smile.
"Sigourney's throat isn't doing too well today. She had iced drinks last night and ended up with a sore throat."
He glanced at Sigourney with indulgent affection.
"So let me give the speech on her behalf."
Of course, Venus had already vaguely guessed the real reason, but she didn't point it out. With her usual composure, she simply acknowledged his words and adjusted the arrangements accordingly.
Upon arrival,
Venus was the first to step out of the car.
She then took the initiative to open the door for Sigourney and Theodore.
Theodore exited first with care, then gently helped Sigourney out.
The two walked side by side into the venue, where most of the guests had already arrived.
They waited for a while before the ceremony began,
and fortunately,
everything proceeded smoothly as expected.
The only exception, of course, was Theodore stepping in to give the speech in Sigourney’s place.
He carefully explained that Sigourney wasn’t feeling well, suffering from a cold and sore throat, and therefore unable to speak.
After Theodore stepped down from the podium, a few city officials, curious about Sigourney’s condition, came over and enthusiastically offered their concern.
“Miss Nichols, even though you’re unwell, you still made the effort to attend. How thoughtful of you.”
“I heard honey and lemon work wonders for a sore throat. My family has some high-quality wild honey. If you don’t mind, I can ask my secretary to bring some over for you.”
“My family also has excellent medicine for colds and throat infections. Which hotel are you staying at? I can have my daughter drop it off for you later…”
“...”
The city officials, touched by Sigourney’s thoughtfulness, eagerly offered their help.
Sigourney could no longer rely on Theodore to respond on her behalf and had to speak up for herself. With a raspy voice, she gently declined their kindness.
“I’m fine, please don’t worry.”
“It’s just a mild cold. I’ve taken some medicine this morning.”
“I’ll recover soon. There’s no need to send any honey or medicine, truly.”
Sigourney gracefully turned down their kind offers, maintaining her gentle smile throughout.
She could also clearly feel Theodore, sitting beside her,
watching her with a faint, knowing smile.
Her cheeks flushed, she knew exactly what that look meant.
After finishing her response, Sigourney reached under the table and gave Theodore a light pinch at the waist as a warning.
Theodore clasped her hand tightly,
his smile grew even brighter.
