Chapter 9
Nicolas POV
Since the gathering, we lived in the west wing of the mansion. It was beautiful and well decorated. From time to time, Luna would check in on us. She is a great host, that no one can deny, not even my dad. Though, she seems to be on edge with him in particular. And as usual, he refused to tell me anything. It always had to turn to Mr. Carter to explain; at a point, it became embarrassing. But Mr. Carter never took my disturbance to heart; one could say he was more of a father than mine.
Sometimes, I envy Elliot, though his mother wasn't around. His father took on most of the roles; I watched them from time to time.
Today was an especially lovely day, as we were given permission to tour the various wings except for the north. I was very excited but couldn't show it. I followed the others as we moved around the various wings; it was both huge and glamorous. All the heirs were gathered here except the heir of the light pack, which I am most grateful for. Mingling with other pack members my age was a new experience, which I found enjoyable.
After about an hour, we were dismissed. On arriving at the west wing, the scene of a three-year-old hitting Elliot across the face came into view. A three-year-old shouldn't have been able to hit a trained amateur like Elliot.
I stood behind a pillar trying to hold back my laughter before going towards them, especially as Elliot looked like he was about to cry. I couldn't help but find the little bossy princess cute after her little display. Mr. Carter soon approached them; I was a little worried that she was in trouble, but he went on one knee and bowed his head in apology. Now, Elliot looked like he was about to faint.
It was a huge disgrace in the pack for a father to admit defeat for the sake of his son. I could understand Elliot. I went over to speak up for him; almost immediately, the little princess also began walking away.
No long after, their Luna came out with the little princess in her arms.
"So she came for her mother?" I asked.
"Not like she would come for you," a pack member beside Elliot replied to me.
They both worked past me, their princess not even sparing me a glance.
After they passed by, my father also walked out, I think following them; so did Elliot, and I thought, 'why don't I go?' As I walked alongside my father for the first time willingly, he gave me a weird gaze. I looked at the ground embarrassed, but when I looked up again, Mr. Carter gave me a knowing smirk and winked at me. I felt so embarrassed I wanted to hide.
There was a commotion ahead. Luna stopped, and the princess seemed to be dozing off. As we approached closer, the maid on site seemed to be from the royals, at least based on her attire. It seems the maid got in trouble with a higher rank member of another pack. Luna interrogated the girl, and I had the murmurs and whispers from the crowd suggesting she was sent by my father.
I mind-linked and asked him, but I received no reply; it happened a lot; I was used to it. The princess was still dozing off, and Luna noticed it; she now had a worried expression. I resisted the urge to help. Suddenly, another voice echoed. It was Morgan, the Alpha of the Light pack; following beside him was his beta and then, Mirage, the person I didn't want to see, not at this moment at least.
My father, of course, tried to take the maid away for interrogation or to be dealt with properly. "What is a royal maid doing in the North wing in the first place...?" The secret question was finally asked. While the conversation was still heated, he took the princess out of Luna's arms; she seemed to not mind at least. Literally speaking, she was carried by her uncle, so it was natural she didn't protest.
Then suddenly, she was handed to Mirage; he looked puzzled, like he didn't want her but still took her from his father. She obviously didn't want him as she frustratedly tried to kick him when he carried her. Her mother just wanted to get her out of the scene and just made Mirage leave with her. Unknowingly, my eyes followed them until they reached the corridor. The next scene made me seriously furious.
He dropped the baby to the ground; she was obviously in pain with the way she rubbed her butt, but he didn't seem to care, just still focused on the conversation. I really wished to be in his situation. I almost went to her when my father mind-linked me to stop.
The little princess stood up, obviously angry, and turned to leave, but she returned from the other direction, to my surprise, about three times, and then tried to run to her mother but seemed stuck. Now I'm sure he really did something to her, and it provoked me to no end. Just the thought that she was being bullied.
Our eyes met, and he gave me his usual smirk, in which case I was already provoked; now my wolf threatened to act without my consent. He just chuckled at me and picked her up with just a pull, and she seemed to say something to him as she disappeared behind the pillars.
I really wanted to go after him, but I have no right, especially to take her away. Already, I just have the feeling that she disliked me, though I'm still unaware of the reason. I hope to resolve it soon; maybe just like Elliot, I offended her without realizing.
I was distracted for a while but returned to my senses on time as we were just about to leave. On returning, my father was very furious. From his reaction, I could tell he was behind everything. Maybe he just wanted to get information, but the maid went overboard. At most, she was trying to please my father by giving him more than he asked so she could get into his bed. It would have worked if she had succeeded, but as it is, she even lost her life.
My father's anger was, of course, not for the demise of one of his lovers but for the fact his reputation was ruined by a careless maid who wasn't content in her position. At this point, I excused myself, giving him the privacy he needed to smash things.
The very next day, to no one's surprise after what happened, the gathering was said to have ended after a week, of course, out of courtesy. I was truly disappointed, but there was nothing I could do. Elliot was somewhat happy to leave, which pissed me off the most; he was my best friend and should understand me, but he was so eager to return to the boring villa.
I began to see a point with him as the company had no one to manage it for a while, and everyone was on autopilot, just working to be stable while waiting for their boss to lead them forward.
One Week Later
We were ready to depart. I would be lying if I said I wouldn't miss here, though it sounded off, but this place felt very familiar since I first arrived, like I have lived here before. And until the end of the one week, I didn't even get a chance to see her again. Not to even talk of resolving issues, I could only secretly hope that by the next time we meet, she would be a little bit more friendlier.
Chapter 10
Mirage POV
The next day, a commotion after almost noon, we were informed by a member who was at the scene that, according to her, it was between a Royal maid and a Levite guard, or so she said.
I could see my father smiling from ear to ear; he was so excited to go and fan the flames of tension between the two leading packs.
After he left, followed by his beta, Lilah immediately entered the room. On my order, she began her report on the happenings since last night.
But she couldn't explain what my father and his beta were discussing before I came in. I couldn't let it slide as I felt it was something very important, or were they hiding something about myself? My mind wandered far and wide but could find a reasonable explanation for my situation.
I just paused on the thought for a while as I proceeded to follow my father; only then did I realize both he and his beta were in the corridor outside our rooms waiting patiently for me.
This was one of my father's annoying traits. Though I have to admit it did pay off quite well, especially in the business world. But I still prefer my way of getting things done, willingly or by force.
As we all stepped out together, the scene was still unfolding as the truth was yet to be said. My father just had to chime in with the question that no one dared to ask.
"What is a Royal maid doing in the North wing in the first place?"
I had to admit that was quite daring of him, something I would also willingly do to my enemy. The tension seemed to increase, which was quite obvious after what just played out between the Lights and the Royals Pack.
"Their next Alpha still didn't say a word. I don't remember his name; maybe I'll ask Lilah about it later," I mumbled.
I slowly followed his gaze as he couldn't look away from the Levites' little princess. I particularly didn't care about her name, not even now; I'm simply not interested.
"Father, the Royals' heir seems to be interested in the Levites' little princess; that could mean trouble for us," I mind-linked him.
The next second, the princess was right in front of my face, staring daggers at me, like she would bite.
"You better take her from me, else..." I immediately regretted mind-linking my dad in the first place.
In just a matter of seconds, he took her from their Luna's arms and intended for me to babysit. Rather than taking her away, I would stay till this drama ended, but luck wasn't on my side today. And immediately I took the princess from my dad's hands, she tried to kick me. To others watching, it might be a joke, but with the force she used, that I don't think a three-year-old should possess, even just one would have been fatal.
"Which three-year-old would aim for vital organs so accurately?"
I noticed the young heir looking at me with envy, but I couldn't wait to deal with this kid. I thought of numerous ways to hurt her without anyone finding out, but out of the eighty-six, only one was the safest.
I immediately dropped her, calmly targeting her butt, as it fell first to the ground. I expected her to cry out in pain; I could simply explain it as an accident and take my leave while someone else is assigned to her.
But the brat wouldn't cry. I intended to ignore her and keep listening to the conversation in the ward, but she immediately stood up and tried to leave on her own.
If she did so, I don't even want to imagine what my father would do to me. I intentionally set her mind in a loop, something I experimented with Lilah; it was safe, but it puts the mind in confusion for as long as the effects lasted.
As expected, she kept returning to the spot she left. It was amusing to watch, but the commotion was getting to a disturbing stage, especially for a child; I had to immediately take her and leave before she got traumatized.
"Brat," she yelled at me after I picked her up.
The anger kept boiling; I even chuckled without realizing, something I subconsciously did when annoyed. Luckily, Lilah appeared in the nick of time before I did what was in my mind to this pipsqueak in my arms.
But now the problem was, she refused to let Lilah take her and even dared to threaten me. I lightly butted her, making her fall unconscious. I only had to imagine myself at her door. Next second, I knocked, and her father stepped out. She was indeed his child; her arrogance was deep-rooted. He was muscular and looked prideful, but he had the name and reputation to back it up. But I looked at the girl in my arms, neither fame nor strength, just a mouth.
I handed her to the Alpha, who looked puzzled. I didn't bother to explain and just walked away.
"Hey...!" he called out.
I paused, waiting for what he intended to say.
"You are the nephew of my wife; there shouldn't be a next time," he said and slammed the door.
Having such a brat as a daughter, I don't even want to imagine warning everyone I meet to never harm her.
"He must have seen the swelling on her forehead," Lilah's voice echoed behind me.
"It was intentional," I replied.
"I know, 'cause master don't leave," she said, and I still wonder if it was a compliment or an insult.
But deep within, I have to admit she was different, hating me at first sight, not scared or trying to please me; she was simply amusing.
"What's her name anyways?" I asked.
"Hmm... Master?"
"I believe you won't let me repeat myself?" It was a threat.
"I believe it should be Viona."
"Master rarely asked for names... So?"
"It's none of your business," I shut her up before she provoked me.
On returning to the scene, all that was left was a pool of blood; I know from the accused maid. Everyone had already left, even my aunt and father.
The very next day, to no one's surprise after what happened, the gathering was said to have ended after a week, of course, out of courtesy. I could finally breathe as we were soon returning home. My father seemed unwilling at first but began to see the point, as the company had no one to manage it for a while, and everyone was on autopilot, just working to be stable while waiting for their boss to lead them forward.
"Yes, you're right; we have to crush the Royals this year too in pharmaceuticals and gadgets."
Up until now, I never saw a need to compete with the Royals in anything, but my obsessed father found every reason to. I just want to crush their spirit to not end every day, instead of competing yearly for top spots in the business world.
One week later, everyone was ready to depart. Though I had to admit the vacation was nice, it wasn't something I'm used to, and luckily, I never saw the brat again since that day.
"Hmph... Viona."
Chapter 11
Viona POV
Opening my eyes, I was greeted by the rays of sun penetrating from the window. It was morning. I slept till morning. My head didn't hesitate to ache; the last thing I saw was Mirage's face before darkness enveloped me, but it was too sudden, not like sleep.
"That bastard knocked me out... gosh, his head is strong," I thought and touched my forehead as I could feel a small bump.
My mother walked in. She sat beside me and felt my temperature with the back of her palm.
"Oh honey... lucky thing your fall wasn't severe," she sighed as she placed an ice sachet on my forehead.
"My fall...?" I asked, puzzled.
'Don't tell me that bastard lied to my mom; I'll expose him.'
Just when I was about to speak, my father stepped in. He sat beside me and picked me up, placing me on his thighs.
"Don't worry, dear; our daughter wouldn't die from a mere fall," he said. I then understood my father's intentions.
"Yes, mommy, it doesn't even hurt anymore... see," I said, pressing the ice sachet on my forehead, trying to prove I was okay.
"Okay." After one last test that almost made me scream in pain, my mother finally let me go, leaving only me and my father in the room.
"You've grown," my father said with a proud look in his eyes. I could finally let those years I was holding in. It fell like a fountain, to his surprise, as he picked me up and walked towards the bathroom.
"Where are we going?" I asked.
"I thought you liked me giving you a bath?" I blushed from embarrassment.
"That was years ago; I'm big now," I protested, just in front of the bathroom door. Since I was reborn, a maid or my mother has been bathing me, never my father, and now, I can't even make a proper excuse.
After thirty minutes of begging, he finally let me bathe myself, but on the condition that he watches me. I just wished to run away. There was no problem for a father to watch over his three-year-old daughter while she bathed in case of an emergency or accident, but I couldn't take off my clothes with him watching me like a hawk.
"Alpha... Alpha... Mark is back!" a voice echoed from outside.
"Be careful," he said to me and dashed for the door in a hurry. I immediately took the opportunity; I washed and rinsed myself neatly, stepped out, and changed into the clothes prepared for me that were laid out on the bed.
While changing, a maid came in to help me.
"What was that man saying?" I asked. She hesitated for a while, pondering whether to tell me or not.
"My father wouldn't know," I tried to make her trust me a little, to fill me in.
"Well... Princess, your uncle just returned." The news came as a thunderbolt to my ears; I remembered this incident very clearly.
After she was done with my shoes, I immediately ran away, ignoring her calls to wear a jacket as it was winter. When I arrived at my dad's office, I never knocked before entering. It became a habit, especially as my dad never stopped me.
I opened the door, shocking everyone inside. My dad sat at his table, my mom stood beside him, followed by his beta, also at his side, and a few men who had their backs towards me.
I ran into my dad's arms, something I did on daily occasions. In his arms, I faced the other men, meeting them face to face for the first time in this life.
One had a very striking resemblance to my dad from my point of view, only his hair color. The man was not as muscular as my dad but had almost identical features. I didn't want to smile at this man, but I had to.
My uncle stepped forward to take me from my father, but I refused to go with him. No doubt this was the first time meeting him in my life. I had the privilege to act ignorant and uncaring.
"Dad... what is it?" I asked, watching his distressed face. I then noticed a white paper in his arms. I took it out; he didn't mind, thinking I didn't know how to read. I opened the letter, only to discover it was the same letter that led to the war before he died. So my suspicion was finally solved; my uncle was the person who caused my father's demise.
"But why?" They were twins. I raised my head and watched him for a while. After close observation, I realized how cold he was. He was a serious businessman; that was something he tried to use to buy the pack from my dad in my past.
Two hours later.
After two hours, my mom had to direct him to his room. Due to the remodeling of the north wing, he couldn't possibly find his room himself.
I looked at the paper again; I don't know how to explain it to him. But he doesn't have to go, and at the same time, he needs to.
I tried to destroy the paper, but my dad snatched it. "It is not a toy, Viona; give it back." This was the first time my dad used a harsh tone on me. I paused, and he took it away from my reach.
"Dad, please don't go..." I immediately burst into tears. He paused and patted me to stop crying. I again took the paper from the desk and threw it into the water he set to drink later.
"Oh my...!" he yelled; the paper was all soaked and couldn't even be read anymore. It wasn't an accident; it was a trap. I'm still not aware if it was intentional on the side of my uncle, but this was the first step to my father's demise that I failed to stop in my past life.
But now I'm given a second chance; I would never let history repeat itself.
Not long after, my father's beta returned. On seeing the mess, a weird expression flashed across his face; it was quick, but I noticed.
I stared at him for a while; our eyes met, and he held the warm smile it always did. I began doubting myself.
It was about noon, and I finally returned to my room. My father announced the end of the gathering after a week. And the north wing was out of bounds.
I enjoyed the peace and quiet, something I lost in the past due to my chaotic situations. I laid upside down on my bed and counted the tiles of the floor as I imagined if I hadn't come back, my life would have begun and ended in misery.
I thanked the goddess for my return, as everything felt like a dream... not a nightmare that almost became reality. My neck began to hurt, and I stood up. My door is always locked, and everyone who entered had to knock.
A knock resounded. I wanted to unlock the door when it opened; the person standing before me was someone I didn't expect.
My father's beta was standing before me.
Chapter 12
Viona POV
Five Years Later
Now eight years old, I was playing with my Hello Kitty branded smartwatch. It was a gift from Mr. Jones. It was custom-made for me in all aspects, even the pink kitty brand. Hello Kitty was indeed my favorite brand when I was little; it suited my childish designs and color.
The watch had an alarm clock, phone book, and games. It was literally all games. At first, my childish side was fascinated by it, but over time I fell out of love with it.
Another gift I received was a Tesla model night vision monocular from Uncle Morgan. I was a sniper in my past life; night vision gadgets were my favorites, so naturally, if there were a competition, he won.
My birthday party is to be held later in the evening; everywhere is brightly lit and decorated. My dress is, for some reason, still with my dad. He was so obsessed with throwing a party. I can understand his excitement and brand it as reasonable, as it is finally the day I am blessed with my wolf-cub form.
Other packs, unlike the Levites, acquire their wolf form at an older age, but the Levites, especially the Alpha direct family, acquire theirs earliest at ten and latest at eighteen. After eighteen, the member is considered rejected by the goddess.
I began showing signs at six years old. My mom panicked as she had no idea of the rules, but after talking with my dad, she finally calmed down.
After showing signs, I was expecting to be able to shape-shift at seven, but it was delayed, and my dad is convinced that this is the year.
I have to admit I'm very nervous about this; I had no idea things would go like this. In my past life, at this time, my dad and the warriors were preparing for war, so no one paid any attention to me. Of course, I couldn't blame them.
And when I first shape-shifted, only the wind in an empty forest congratulated me. My mom was trying to keep the pack call, while my dad and the warriors went off to battle. No one knew until my eighteenth birthday when I was to be married off.
I counted every second. By noon, all the major packs had arrived. As one of the heirs of the two leading packs, Nicolas didn't have to come, but he is the first name I see after looking at the attendance list. Mirage's name was nowhere to be seen, to my greatest relief. In no time, the party began. The dress was delivered to my room by my mother; she helped me put it on, and it fit perfectly.
"Oh... Sweetie, you look so beautiful," she complimented as we stared at ourselves in the mirror. "Thanks, Mom," I smiled cheerfully.
The event started for about thirty minutes before I walked in, just like my etiquette teacher instructed. "One foot at a time, move smoothly to achieve that elegant glow." I could also see him at the corner staring at me with prying eyes, his lips mumbling what I could already guess.
I could feel all eyes on me; my blue closet ball gown glowed gracefully in the light. I even admired myself.
My father at the other end offered me his hand, which I took when I got to his position. He let me sit on the throne-like chair beside him. It was my party, but he is the host. That was the sitting arrangement. My mother later joined and sat at my left, leaving me in the middle.
Everyone brought their own gifts, both expensive and rare from all parts of the world. The event was pretty boring to me until we got to the final stage. A priest was even called; he was more like a seer. He was blind but could see and tell prophecies. According to what I was told, he was a young man when my great-grandfather was alive. I can't even begin to imagine how old he is now; at least it is understandable why the Alpha would personally come to greet such a figure.
The Ritual Begins
Five mirrors were placed reflecting the moonlight. I stood in the middle. For some reason, I felt uncomfortable.
"Can I stay in the water instead?" Everyone paused at my question; I even surprised myself. I didn't know when my thoughts echoed aloud.
"I'm sorry," I apologized.
"Is that even possible?" my father chimed in.
The man paused for a moment and first put his hand into the water. After a few minutes, he picked up the mirror and surrounded the small pond. The pond was quite deep but didn't pull me down when I stepped in.
I had to go underwater, under a full moon. I chose this because I feel weird when people see me shape-shift. It's a habit. Under the water, I could feel my body rapidly expanding. It wasn't painful, but I know it should be, or is it because I already experienced it before? My clothes were torn in an instant. I always felt comfortable underwater; I didn't feel suffocated like others. In fact, it comforted me; it's my safe place.
After a while, I began feeling hot inside the water; the temperature kept rising. I couldn't come out of the water; I felt stuck. At one point, I passed out. When I opened my eyes again, I could see the moon looking transplanted. As I tried to reach for it, I felt a breeze.
The water suddenly began choking me. I noticed myself sinking deeper and deeper; I couldn't move my legs, I couldn't breathe; I was suffocating fast.
Suddenly, I could feel someone's hand pull me up into his chest. He was cold; his body temperature stabilized mine. He lifted my chin and gave me CPR, blowing oxygen into my lungs. I opened my eyes a little; everything was blurry, but a pair of blood-red eyes stared back at me.
After I could finally breathe, he let go of me. I tried to hold onto him, but like he disappeared; he was nowhere to be found. I carefully and quickly swam to the surface.
I popped my head outside the water, and behold, my dad was about to kill the man whose age I don't know. I wanted to come out when I remembered, "I'm naked. Wait..." That guy touched me.
I screamed, attracting attention to myself. Immediately, my dad jumped into the water, noticing my condition, wrapped his coat around me, and pulled me out. My mom hurried to my side; I was taken inside to be attended to by the doctor. The party was left to end without me.
I couldn't stop thinking about the person in the water. "His eyes were captivating. If I had a chance, I would find him. He touched me; didn't he know who I was?" I complained. "But he saved me," I admitted. I couldn't believe me, complaining back and forth in my head. But something tells me it wouldn't be long before we meet again.
Chapter 13
Nicolas POV
I stared at my reflection in the mirror in my room, my thoughts wandering off to the office. After I turned 13, which was three years ago, I was given a position in the company, Royal Blue Cooperation, one of the biggest companies in the whole of Korea. It is involved in almost all segments of business: cars, entertainment, music gadgets, and so on.
Every employee has the workload of a small business enterprise. We don't only work with our kind, but also humans. My dad, of course, the cold and ruthless CEO of Royal Blue, is worshipped in the business world.
My engagement with the company has yet to bear fruit. I have been burdened with company matters for months now. My father refused me to bear his name while in the company. He insisted that I create a name for myself within the company before he acknowledged me as his son before the world.
Before now, he always refused me to visit, and if I did, I always stayed beside Mr. Edward, his secretary, who was no different from his boss. Of course, the latter also had no idea of my identity and always regarded me as an adopted child whom his boss took pity on.
I didn't resemble my father much when I was younger, and this sparked a conflict between my parents on who my biological father was. Because of that, my dad developed distrust towards my mother, leaving her open for assassination within her own territory.
Of course, my dad deeply regretted it. After the loss of his mate, their bond was automatically severed forever. As time went on, though he didn't treat me badly, he was cold and hardly smiled like before. I always wondered if this was how other single Alphas behaved until Elliot also lost his mother due to an illness. I pitied him greatly as his father was only a beta. My position was quite manageable; as the next heir, people would naturally treat me well to gain favor in the future and secure their peaceful life, but who knew if Elliot would become the next beta.
But to my surprise, Mr. Carter, who was always so private, actually brought his child to the pack house every day just for him to not be alone. After spending time together, Elliot and I became the best of friends, since we were little until now. Since then, I have always admired Mr. Carter. But deep down, I always longed for my father's approval.
I worked tirelessly day and night, but for some reason, someone always submitted my work before me. For two years now, I doubt my father is unaware. But I plan to allow this to continue happening until he gets fed up with it.
I'm still at the third position I was when I began working, after two promotions which happened in two weeks after my contract signing with the company. I guess people are jealous and plan to put me down.
In all this, the only time I get an automatic leave is when trouble arises in maybe one of the packs. For five years, I sometimes had nightmares, seeing Mirage in my room and some sort.
My room is on the top floor of our estate villa. No one can enter or leave without permission. I sat there for a while when a knock resounded at the door.
"Who's it?" I snapped out of my thoughts and looked in the direction of the door, and in no time, Elliot appeared on the scene with his usual cheeky smile.
I sometimes get pissed with him, but he gets me the most. Just as I was about to send him out, he said, "Tomorrow is Viona's birthday," as if knowing I would let him stay after that.
Indeed, I was defeated. He walked in like he owned the place and hopped on my bed, an annoying habit of his.
"Not like I'm going anyways," I sank back into the midst of wild thoughts.
"You can take my invitation. I'm not going this year, maybe in the next. With the way the Levites Pack loves their princess, even in her thirties, she would still be celebrated," Elliot said and tossed the invitation card at me.
"Have fun," he wished and left the room.
I stared in shock at the invitation for a few minutes. Though I always sent her gifts, it was naturally unnecessary to attend a party the host didn't invite.
For years, I never got an invitation. I'm not sure of the reason she despises me so badly.
Again, there was a knock on my door. I thought it was Elliot; maybe he forgot something.
"Come in," I said, backing the door while reading the invite.
The door was open, but the room was still quiet. The usual Elliot would have already started to talk.
I turned only to see a pair of little feet with pink shoes standing at the door. I stood up and walked towards her. As I towered in front of her, she cringed and tried to hide in the wall.
"Hi..." I greeted her. She lifted her face, revealing her green, tear-filled eyes that invoked pity from anyone.
"I want my nanny..." I heard her small, choking voice, like she was about to burst into tears. Strangely enough, I did hear of my father going on a business trip with Mr. Smith and his daughter to the villa.
I never bumped into her since she moved in; I guess she was always with her nanny. "Where's your nanny?" I asked her.
"I don't know. She said to hold her hand, and she got lost..." She burst into tears.
I felt lost at how she said it; it took me a few seconds to understand.
"Hmm... you mean you got lost?" I asked, still unsure. I felt sympathy for her and decided to help.
"Come," I said, taking her by her hand out of my room as I asked her a few questions along the way.
"Where were you last at?" I asked.
"There was a small fountain and some koi fish in the water," she said.
I understood how she could get lost. We lived in the biggest villas in this district; there was a fountain in the garden, but it didn't have koi fish. She must have been to the backyard; there are lots of koi there.
Like I said, after we got there, just a few minutes later, her nanny came running, crying her eyes out.
"Thank you so much, sir," she went on her knees and bowed deeply in gratitude, taking the girl and hugging her like her life depended on it. Well, it actually did, I guess.
I turned to leave when the little girl held my hand.
"Thank you very much... hmm..."
"My name is Nicolas. What's yours?"
"Oh... Thank you, Nicolas. My name is Flora," she said, blushing cutely; her ears were all red. Her nanny was chuckling, and they both left, but Flora kept waving at me.
I had to admit, she was very lovely. A rare and simple heir; she must have been sheltered well. After they left, I returned back to my room, preparing my gift for Viona. I’m not sure what she likes, but I always like to please her.
