My Luna's Revenge - Chapter 14

Chapter 14

Nicolas POV

I immediately went online; I browsed brands with the most beautiful logos and their products. Her birthday was tomorrow. I didn't even prepare a gift for her.

It took me about three hours to find a product I think she would like. It was a Hello Kitty branded smartwatch. I remember her dressed in a Hello Kitty branded top five years ago. She was just looking pink but cute. I remember how Elliot laughed at her look and got slapped.

He still dislikes her; I believe it's the reason he isn't attending the birthday party. Well, the invitation is now mine; I could imagine myself smiling already.

The purchase was to be delivered two days later. I didn't have such time; I contacted a friend. He was also a werewolf and knew how to get the job done. Now the purchase was going to be delivered at 5 AM in the Levites Pack.

I selected the clothes I was to wear to the party tomorrow; it was a blue tuxedo. I bet she was going to notice me, especially if I stood out with this color. The theme colors of the event are pink, red, green, and gold.

By the time I was done, it was 8:40 PM. I went to freshen up; after I was done, it was 9:01 PM. I was set to go to bed when I heard a soft knock at the door.

I could tell who it was by the soft steps. I went and opened it. As expected, it was Flora, and she had two medium-sized cupcakes in her hand.

I invited her in, together with her nanny, who came with two glasses of freshly squeezed orange juice. I was a little uncertain but let them in. As I entered, Flora offered me one of her cupcakes, which I didn't reject after taking a bite. I sipped the orange juice.

And it tasted wonderful. Flora then chimed in, "I used to take this when I'm happy, and I want to share it with you."

I was touched by her words, and a pleasing smile marred my face. If only Viona was this nice. "How old are you?" I asked her.

"I'll be eight by tomorrow," she replied.

"What... Tomorrow's your birthday?" I was surprised, then felt pity. She was such a cute girl, but her father was on a business trip and couldn't celebrate her birthday with her.

"What do you want as a gift? I'll get it for you," I asked.

"Hmm... I don't really have anything in mind that I especially want." Her reply was so humble that I felt hurt.

"Okay, I'll get you something by tomorrow," I promised.

She just smiled with blushing ears. The nanny behind her gave me a look of gratitude and mumbled a thank you. I just nodded in response, though I had met Flora before and didn't have a very positive first impression of her. I now see her true nature.

Her humble nature made her stand out among the other heirs her age I have met. But she isn't the only one to stand out; Viona especially stood out for her courage and pride, while Flora stood out for her meekness and humble nature. They were just two opposites of each other.

'Why am I even comparing two different people?' I thought to myself and just dismissed it.

We finished the cupcakes and chatted for a while before Flora's nanny called her to go to bed, which she wished me good night before leaving.

After she left, it was already 10:22 PM; I guess it was also past her bedtime.

I lay down and closed my eyes. After a few minutes, I suddenly felt like someone was standing beside me. I still kept my eyes shut, and by the time I felt the presence disappear, I opened my eyes. The first thing I noticed was the open window, which I had already shut before going to shower. I went towards the window and looked outside, but there was no one in sight despite my very clear vision.

I then went back to sleep.

The sound of the alarm woke me up a few hours later. By the time I opened my eyes, it was already 5:37 AM. I freshened up and went out. At most, Viona's parties would be held at 7 PM.

I hurried to a department store; I bought some balloons, a party hat, and a medium-sized cake.

I went home, and luckily Flora was still asleep. The nanny and I set up things, and just when we were done two hours later, Flora woke up looking for her nanny.

On seeing the surprise and her name on the cake, she was so excited and ran to my side and gave me a tight hug. I was surprised but returned it.

The day was eventful, and before evening, I arrived at the Levites Pack.

The party soon commenced. As expected of the princess of a leading pack, she dressed gorgeously and walked elegantly into the hall. Her blue corset ball gown glowed beautifully under the light; she immediately became the event.

She was a princess showered with love by both her parents; everything came to her on a platter of gold. A good name and happy family lifestyle befitting a princess.

I couldn't help but wonder about Flora, who was the complete opposite. The party was like any high-class neighborhood party, just rich kids playing around. It was almost at the end of the party that I realized Mirage was nowhere to be found. Of course, we met in both packs and company gatherings, but his not attending this party left me puzzled.

At the end of the party, while the ritual was ongoing, I had a phone call with Flora, who expressed her loneliness. There wasn't much to do here anywhere, so I excused myself and left before the party ended.

When I arrived home, Flora was very excited to see me. I quickly shared some treats I bought on my way back with her.

The Next Day

From the rumors spread, the princess almost drowned after requesting the ritual should be done in the water. Some said she deserved it, but who was I to judge? I just played the neutral party and observed.

After a few days, it was rumored she got her wolf, and it was a silver-furred wolf, a rare species even among the werewolves. The last seen silver wolf was the first Luna ever made.

She received admiration and praise. I became occupied with Flora, spending less and less time on other external happenings.

After a few months, my father returned, and so did Mr. Smith. The business deal was finalized, and they were partners in a very long-term contract.

Upon his return, Flora was so excited but turned sad when she was asked to go back home. I could understand her frustration, as her only company was her nanny.

Unwilling, she bid her farewell as we continued our separate lives but still kept in touch. I continued working at the company, and just as I expected, the person plagiarizing my work was fired, and I walked all the way to the managing director at a young age.

Chapter 15

Viona POV

Two Years Later

"Why?" I ask myself. The future I was trying so hard to run away from has come back to haunt me. I cried my eyes out yesterday after the seer visited the pack. Even in my past, it was the same day and obviously the same reason, or am I doomed to die?

I watched from my window as the seer walked out of the pack, followed by the elders, who seemed to be asking questions.

Not long after, my mom entered my room. She first sat beside me, supporting her bulging belly. First, she was pregnant again for my father, something that never happened in my past. From this, I knew that the future was slowly changing, but my heart was shattered when the seer visited again two days after my 10th birthday.

"Dear..." she stammered, unsure of how to say it.

"Mm... My dear... You know your dad would take care of it, right?" She tried her best, but her eyes gave her away; they had doubts in them. She knew my dad could do nothing about it.

I just smiled not to worry her too much, as a slight negative emotion can affect the fetus. She calmly took my hand and gently placed it on her belly. I could feel a slight movement; it was a wonderful experience. A warm smile suddenly surfaced even in my heart of despair.

"He's trying to cheer you up," she said.

"Mmm..." I nodded happily; it moved again, this time with a little more force.

My mother hissed in pain. I understood her; I was also once pregnant myself. I could understand the pain she felt. It wasn't severe, but it still hurt. My hands subconsciously went to massage her lower back. During my pregnancy, it was my sore spot and was the center of every painful session. Sure enough, my mother sighed in relief.

"Thank you, sweetie," she said and kissed my forehead. "I'll go talk to your dad." She left me alone.

The moment she stepped out, the despair I felt multiplied tenfold. Tears streamed down my eyes about the impending suffering I have to endure.

Now I thought of it: the seer is a messenger of the goddess herself. If anyone is defiled, it is the goddess being defiled, and it is nothing short of a death penalty. My father is standing against this; it's not a wise decision, especially not now that my mother is to give birth soon.

My father entered my room with a downcast expression. I already knew this outcome, but I can't deny the fact that I had a little hope for a different outcome.

"I'm sorry," he said, affirming my thoughts.

"It's okay, Dad. At least on the bright side, we're the first to know about this engagement, even before the Royals. We can use this to our advantage."

"How so?" my father asked.

"We can set it on our terms," I replied. The only thing we have is to set conditions. As long as the Royals don't yet know of the engagement, it gives us a head start.

In my last life, I could use this idea, as I was immediately sold over so my uncle could completely take charge of the pack. With the only condition being, I shouldn't die or be killed without the approval of the Levites, which made my life even worse than death.

Now, with the help of my father, terms and conditions were made before any alliances could be formed. After the contract was finished, my dad sent out invitations as the old seer was already on his way to the Royals. If we wasted time and sent out invitations first, we would have to play by their rules, forsaking our plans.

As expected, before the next day, the whole wolf kind knew of the engagement between the two leading packs, coming as one. And we, on the other hand, were prepared as our invitation went to every pack, both major and minor, before the next day.

All the Alphas first had a gathering before the official day of the announcement.

Finally, the Day

After everyone gathered, the hall was magnificently decorated. After everyone had gathered, we waited for the arrival of the main stars of the night: the fifteen-year-old son of the Alpha of the Royals and the ten-year-old daughter of the Alpha of the Levites.

As we both arrived at the center of the hall, I noticed Nicolas seemingly distracted. I couldn't help but notice how he seemed to be trying to get my attention since the pack gathered seven years ago. I at least expected him to show a little anticipation, but his distracted look puzzled me, not to even talk of my uncle Morgan, who looked so frustrated that the veins on his head could clearly be seen, and Mirage, who always looked like he didn't want to be here.

"The goddess blesses this occasion. Today we are gathered here to witness the engagement between our two major packs. Together, we would prevail against the witches, vampires, and humans combined. The goddess would lend us her strength..." While the seer was saying the prayers, I followed Nicolas' gaze, who seemed distracted the whole time. Not so surprisingly, I felt a sting in my chest.

It was Flora in the crowd; he could even spot her so accurately. Her eyes held unshed tears. I couldn't wait to see those tears fall. Sure enough, the moment I held Nick by the arm, she immediately pushed through the crowd and ran away crying.

Nick was about to go after her but was held back by me as I pretended to have no idea what was going on. After the announcement was over, everyone cheered and clapped, but Nick was nowhere to be found, just like in my past life. He was off somewhere consoling Flora, who was crying her eyes out in his arms.

I had to admit, I felt hurt, but I knew it was not my heart aching, but my memories replaying in my head, giving me the same feeling of heartbreak.

I was on my way to my room; I'm going to bed.

"I guess your partner isn't here?" My voice sounded from the side of the corridor. I turned sharply, frightened. I didn't hear any footsteps until now, nor did I get his scent.

"What exactly are you?" He was already leaving but stopped at my question. He turned towards me, and in the blink of an eye, I was smashed into the pillar, and a deep crack formed on it.

He was choking me. My vision quickly became blurry. But I didn't pass out before he let me go. I was gasping for air the moment my lungs were free.

"Don't ever ask that question again, okay?" I couldn't describe the emotions I felt; it was strange and thrilling. I didn't dislike it, but it scared me. Before I could realize myself, he was already at a distance. I then noticed Lilah; the look of disgust she gave me was no different from my past life.

I stumbled back to my room. From the wall, I could hear whispers; they were low, and I couldn't figure out what they were saying. I stepped out and went to the corner, hoping to hear more, but all I could hear was sobbing and Nick's reassuring voice, like he was calming a child.

I hated him for this, only using that voice for her and never his mate, but now, I don't give a damn. He is and would remind me of my past.

I returned to my room and was about to close the window when I noticed the beautiful moonlight penetrating through the window, adding a magnificent glow to my room. I happily left it open and fell asleep on my bedside couch. I felt someone lift me to my bed, but I couldn't open my eyes; they were tightly shut in slumber.

Chapter 16

Flora POV

I'm so heartbroken after hearing about the engagement between the princess and Nick. It isn't my fault I'm not from a leading pack, but my father is still an alpha of a major pack. I'm not as privileged as her to begin with; I couldn't help but sulk in my room.

A knock resounded on my door. It is my nanny; she is like the mother I never had, always supporting me through everything. I poured out my heart to her, concerning how I felt about Nicolas' engagement.

She hugged me silently, something I never knew I needed. I returned the hug, bursting into tears. She consoled me and gently whispered in my ears.

"Lady Flora...? I think you have feelings for the young master," she said. I paused as I listened to her.

"I don't mean to hurt my lady, but my lady shouldn't be rash. It's just a normal crush; at a point, you'll outgrow it," she paused, studying my expression.

"What if I don't outgrow it?" I asked.

"Oh... that won't be good. My lady is stronger than this; don't let such things bother you... you have to take your afternoon nap," she said and tried to tuck me in.

"Does he want to be with the princess? Would he still visit me?" I asked my nanny, who was about to leave. She stopped and kissed my forehead, telling me to go to sleep.

Few Hours Later

After I woke up, I suddenly began feeling thirsty. My nanny was nowhere to be seen, so I tried to wake up and get it myself. But a glass of water was suddenly before my eyes.

"Take it; you must be thirsty after sleeping for so long?" I heard a familiar voice after staring at the glass for a while.

I was startled but kept my cool.

"What are you doing here?" I asked, as I could see the puzzled expression on his face.

"You invited me," he said, as I suddenly remembered doing so, before I heard about his engagement with the princess.

"Wait...!" I subconsciously yelled as he was about to leave.

"I did invite you... but," I confessed as a relieved expression appeared on his face.

"Is it about the impending engagement?" he asked, and I remained silent, affirming his question.

"Flora... you'll always be my friend," he said.

"We're friends?" I subconsciously asked. The word 'friend' hurts more than it should. I felt like I experienced this heartbreak before, though it's too big of a word for a ten-year-old to use.

"Yeah... we're friends," I emphasized the word, and I also could feel his discomfort.

"I'm sorry, I mean, since I knew you, I'm... I'm just worried you'll change and forget me after being with the princess," I apologized while staring at the ground, worried to see his disgusted expression at my jealousy.

'Yes, I was jealous of the Levites princess; she had everything, and I had nothing, but she wanted to take the only person that I cared so dearly for. I hate her,' I admitted my dislike for Princess Viona, whose name has reached packs across the world.

This is the first time I felt such a strong negative emotion towards someone.

"My chest hurts..." I clenched my chest and almost fell to the ground. I was expecting pain, but it didn't come. When I opened my eyes, Nicolas was before me, and only then did I realize that I was on my bed.

"Are you alright?" I could sense the concern in his voice, and I didn't want to lose it. Just then, my nanny ran in with my inhaler. Upon hearing the commotion, she brought it close, and I inhaled until my condition stabilized.

"What's wrong with her?" Nick asked.

"Young lady Flora is asthmatic. She must have been stressed. Please, I'd like to ask the young master to leave," she said.

"No...!" I yelled, but no one listened to me, and Nicolas just walked out.

"My lady, you can't be this worked up over someone; you're only ten," she tried to reason with me, but I didn't want to listen and also dismissed her for the day.

I cried myself to sleep.

When I opened my eyes, it was evening. My dad was back from work; he was in his study. I knocked on his door, and after getting his permission, I entered the office.

"Dad..." I called for his attention. I ran to his side, and he picked me up to his thighs.

"Daddy... why do you always go out with Nicolas' father?" I asked. He dropped the paper in his hand and looked at me.

"Why do you ask?" he asked, and I shook my head, saying it was nothing and I just wanted to know.

"No... it's just that Daddy doesn't spend much time with me anymore, and Nicolas is to be engaged very soon; no one would play with me anymore," I complained.

"Don't worry, honey... Dad is working with Uncle Jones so our pack could merge; then you would have a lot of people to play with," he replied.

"Why do we have to merge?" I asked and didn't think it was necessary.

"Well, honey, as you know, our oil business is not doing well, and so is our position. We rose to the top because we have the resources and finance to stabilize us. If our source of income depletes and we have no more resources, we'll go bankrupt, and our pack would fall to the bottom again. Did you forget what happened to the Morning pack? In just a few months after an office accident, they lost their business and their rank; now they are no different than humans; anyone can trample on them. But if we merge with the Royals, we can secure our pack rank and also ensure their backing in business, coupled with the fact that the Royals' next Alpha and the Levites' young princess are getting engaged; it would yield huge profits for us and stabilize our pack's strength," he explained excitedly, not even noticing how my mood was down.

"Daddy..." I called.

"Are humans bad?" I asked.

"No, sweetie, most of them are just naive, and the ones who are well-informed are selfish and ambitious, doing everything for their own gain," he said in disgust.

"Why, Father?" I asked, watching his expression twist from disgust to anger.

"The naive humans believe our kind don't exist and are ignorant of the fact that we live amongst them; that is why we cannot shape-shift in front of a human..." he paused.

"And the well-informed are the most dangerous; they use their naive kind to traffic both werewolves and vampires for their own gain, selling their organs or using them for witchcraft to work with the witches, trying to eliminate other kinds. They were successful with the fairies..."

"There were fairies...?" I asked curiously, interrupting him.

"Shhh....!" he hushed me playfully.

He then whispered, "Yes, but there are now myths; still, it's believed that they are in the wind and listen to everything."

"Oh well, I'm going back to work," he resumed his paperwork, and I went back to my room. My mind was taken off Nicolas for the meantime, at least as I pondered my conversation with my dad.

I tried to imagine how they would look, and it was nothing short of beautiful. People often compared Viona to a fairy; though she is beautiful, I'm just as pretty. After taking my bath, I felt more refreshed and lit. I felt guilty for the way I spoke to my nanny earlier, and I was going to apologize tomorrow. She is right; I'm just ten and shouldn't be worried about someone. He is five years older than me, and we are just friends.

"Friends," I mumbled, "but why does the word still hurt?"

It was late at night; I went to my window, gazing at the bright moon. As I closed my hands together, I whispered, "I wish to meet a fairy one day."

Chapter 17

Lilah Pov

I was five years old when I was brought into the Light pack after the shameful defeat of my pack. We were a rogue pack, but I believed we never destroyed any pack or infiltrated one, based on how lazy our alpha was.

On a snowy day, it fell red snow; the ground was dyed red, and so was the top of my castle. We were an ancient pack living for hundreds of years.

After my birth, I was prophesied to bring doom to my pack, but my father was someone who didn't believe in prophecies or fortune telling. And my mom, a gold digger, who had numerous mates formed from lust and passion. I didn't live every little girl's dream life, but my life was decent. I was not an alpha's daughter, nor any daughter of a high-rank alpha. My father was just a simple servant; I was literally an accident from a night of passion.

It was supposed to be a one-night stand, but had it happened, I would have been aborted. I was born after being mistaken for the alpha's child. Little did they know I wasn't, until the day of my second birthday. I was a healthy baby girl who was nourished with only the finest and highest quality food.

On the day of my second birthday, everything changed; the once joyful life was like a dream. I was harshly woken to reality.

"A daughter of a servant living like a princess," I was mocked every day. I wished to die, but death never came. With time, I grew numb to the torture and insults, waiting for the day I'll finally be relieved, if that day would ever come.

With time, my biological father rejected me, hoping I'd get him the love of his mate as their only child or the final approval of their alpha. But as time went on, he began losing hope in me until he finally rejected me in front of the whole pack. I felt absolutely nothing, as I expected it, though a lot sooner than now.

I completely became a bottom feeder, a reject, a curse to the pack that would bring its doom. The alpha, the man I thought was my father, ruthlessly abandoned me.

And one day, my secret wish finally came true. The pack was dyed red from top to bottom; every man, woman, and child was killed, one after the other.

I knew I would be next at any moment, but it was not until I saw the woman that gave birth to me suffer and be killed before my eyes. For that reason, I went to find her.

Sure enough, she was having fun with a servant while her pack was being slaughtered. My mere presence provoked her; just when she was about to hit me, the door was smashed open.

We were both surprised as the war was ongoing six floors down. Barely audible on the first floor, but the presence of this person ruined everything. But I refused to end like this. I stabbed the b*tch in the neck and watched her bleed profusely.

She clenched her neck with fear in her eyes. The person stepped inside the room, and to my surprise, it was at most a ten-year-old boy.

I quite admired his confidence and expressionless face during a moment like this. He walked up to me; just when I thought it was over, he stared into my eyes for a few seconds and moved to my mother. He raised his hand and mumbled something, and the bleeding neck immediately healed, not even leaving a scar.

Everyone was shocked speechless, especially me, who had waited three whole years for this moment. I tried to move, but felt a heavy force pull me down, and I fell to my knees.

He walked up to me.

"You know you're gonna die, right?" he asked, and I nodded.

"But despite that, you want revenge?" I nodded at his question again.

He paused, looking into my eyes again.

"I'll help you with your revenge, and you'll die the way I intend to kill you." His words surprised me, and I nodded; there was nothing to live for anyway, not like I would be treated better than in this pack if I survived.

"Okay, deal."

On hearing our conversation, the Luna tried to escape through the door but stopped and turned towards us like she was controlled.

Suddenly, her joints began dislocating and popping out of her skin as horrid screaming filled the room, giving me goosebumps.

"Is this also the way he plans to kill me?" I asked myself.

When the scream stopped, all that was left were bones and a pool of blood, and in all this, he never turned in her direction, only looking at me.

"Are you satisfied with the revenge?" It was not a question to be answered. But deep down, I was more than satisfied.

"It's your turn to close the deal," he said, moving closer to me.

Fear overcame me.

"What if I don't do it?" I was horrified.

He just looked at the pool of blood and at me, indicating something, which I understood clearly.

I just closed my eyes, ready for my departure from this world. He held me up, ripping the top of my cloth, exposing my chest. In no time, I felt a sharp pain in my collarbone.

He was patiently sucking blood from me. After a few minutes, I began feeling dizzy, and my vision was blurry. Only then did I realize I didn't want to die. I fought desperately to free myself, but his grip was too strong.

I was losing oxygen, slowly suffocating; he left me and went to the terrified man on the bed who was still nude from being interrupted.

Doing the same thing, he drained him and he died in a couple of seconds, and stretched his hand and healed the wound, leaving the man dead with no injuries or struggling.

At this point, the only thing on my mind was "flawless." No evidence found; no wonder he could leave amongst the werewolves without being discovered.

"If you survive this, I'll save you," he said, his back towards me.

I opened my eyes; I was in a beautiful room, lit with chandeliers. An old man who seemed to be a doctor checked on me and explained my condition.

"She was injured and lost a lot of blood; it's a miracle she survived. I guess she was bound to life," he said to a young man; his face looked familiar and struck a memory.

"The young boy," I mumbled out loud. Suddenly, I smelled blood; only then did I realize I had a seriously deep cut across my chest that was now bleeding heavily.

'He was truly flawless, leaving no trace of himself. He could kill me at will.' With that thought, I kept my mouth shut and patiently got treatment until I felt better.

The pack members were so nice and gentle towards me after I was discharged and allowed to walk around to exercise my legs.

"You didn't keep your end of the deal," a voice echoed behind me.

Chapter 18

Mirage Pov

Everyone was shocked by the engagement invitation sent by the Levites pack, myself included. I dislike Nicolas. He is smart but weak, and I just can't imagine the union of both a "weakling," as I like to call him, and that snobbish "bratty princess."

The letter got my dad pulling at his hair. I have to admit, it was quite a sight to behold, as my dad immediately rushed to the Levites, only to come back dejected a few days later. I know it didn't go his way like he expected.

"I can't believe this..." he kept mumbling to himself. I didn't want to care, but he's my dad. I have no choice but to pretend like I have suggestions. My reasonable father was willing to listen to my "lunatic ideas," as he called them, something he shunned me for just this morning.

"Do you think it's gonna work?" he asked as I shook my head, confirming a negative response to his question. Maybe only then did he realize himself and what we talked about. He only coughed and cleared his voice before scolding me for having such a wicked idea, like he didn't buy it just a few minutes ago.

His Beta knocked, to which he gave me a look, and I left the room, giving them the privacy they needed, as the situation seemed serious. Outside the room, Lilah waited for me as she hurriedly greeted me. I gave my orders:

"Let me know what they are talking about."

I walked away, leaving her head bowed. "Yes..." I heard her mumble, but I didn't slow down my step. Walking along the corridor, my gaze wandered all the way to the end of the corridor and beyond. Something glowing in the dark caught my attention; it was all the way on the other side of the pack walls. The place was considered out of bounds after the recurring accidents that took place without any clear explanation. Some even consider the place "cursed."

My father has warned me numerous times to avoid places like that, but such places seem to pique my interest the most. As I unknowingly ventured there, I failed to notice I was the only one present in the corridor despite the pack house being so full, like there was a voice echoing in my head.

I reached my supposed destination, only to feel like an invisible barrier stood before me and the desired object. Glowing and spinning, only then did I realize it was too quiet. The quiet was heavy, pressing down on me. I couldn't move, couldn't speak, but inside, I was screaming, my heart racing. "Is this fear or anger?" I asked myself. This sort of emotion was new; was this how people felt it? But no one could hear me. The light was growing a bright red color, reflecting on my face like I was under a spell.

It changed to a shade of pink that was pleasing to the eyes. A smile subconsciously graced my lips. I tried to wipe it off, but no conflicting thought or idea could change my mood, as I just let the happy feeling flow through me like a running river. Only then did I feel relieved.

It emitted a blinding green light. I shut my eyes almost immediately, and all I could see before me were smiling faces.

"What the heck is this all about?"

I tried to move, but my body seemed to be sinking deeper and deeper into this emotion. "What's the meaning of this?" My voice thundered but faded in echoes. It didn't seem like I was in the pack anymore. The place was different, weird, even creepy. I'm not the emotional type, but today was not looking good for me.

All the emotions kicked in at once, confusing me. I felt trapped for the first time in my life. I felt so confused it seemed stupid. In the heat of the moment, I grabbed the glowing gem. To my disbelief, its glowing nature died down, leaving behind a shabby pebble.

"Are you kidding me...!" I cursed. "All those weird feelings were caused by an ugly rock?" I was in shock. I thought I found something magical. Our race is gossiped to have a special relation to magic. I'm thrilled, but it just doesn't make sense, as I haven't even smelled any magical or even occult artifacts or books in the pack.

I suddenly understood the feeling of frustration my dad experienced after not getting what he went through a lot of trouble for. I returned to my room dejected.

A knock resounded on my door. After my permission, Lilah walked in. She bowed before relaying her message, which was the same as last time.

"Nothing."

"Make yourself scarce." On my order, she left. Anger is not a pleasant emotion; that I understood perfectly.

"I think the Light pack would be in need of a new Beta soon."

Snap...!

I snapped my fingers together.

Crack...!

The sound of scattering glass was pleasing to my ears.

Few Days Later

It was the expected date of the engagement. I had no intentions of going; my mood was already bad since a few days ago, to be precise, since I got that shabby pebble. It felt like a bad luck charm, and I've tried numerous ways to get rid of it. Only then did I realize I was the only person able to see this unsightly thing.

Levite Pack

The building was brightly lit, as it hosted thousands of important figures, all the way from major to minor packs. I impatiently waited for the event to end. Maybe it was only me, but the time was ticking slowly. Viona stepped out in a maroon-colored dress, looking elegant and charming.

Her eyes surveyed the room. For a moment, they locked on mine, and I felt a shiver run down my spine, not from fear, but I just couldn't explain the emotion I was feeling at the time. My heart was beating so fast I had to excuse myself.

After calming my racing heart, on my way back to the hall, soft sobbing sounds echoed in the empty hallway. In puzzlement, I checked it out to hide in the corner, only to witness the little girl from the meeting years ago crying her eyes out.

I had no intention of consoling anyone. I didn't even want to be here in the first place, but the little girl seemed a little too familiar, though I can't pinpoint where I have seen her before apart from that gathering.

I was about to leave when I heard hurried footsteps that I could recognize anywhere, any day. It was Nicolas, of course. Surprised at first, but he went to the little girl's side, hugging her to himself as he dried her tears.

The scene was not much to my liking, so I decided to find my dad and be on my way home, only to see little Viona, now 10 years old. She looked more mature than a few years ago; I had to admit.

She was indeed maturing into a peerless beauty, but she didn't notice my presence, which irked me for some reason.

"I guess your partner isn't here," she turned sharply, obviously she didn't see me before now. She stared for a moment but didn't say anything. I turned to leave, only hearing her mumble.

"What exactly are you?"

One of the questions I couldn't tolerate. I could feel the adrenaline rush from my hand as I was choking her. Her vision quickly became blurry; I could tell from her teary eyes. But I didn't let her pass out before letting go. She was gasping for air the moment her lungs were free.

"Don't ever ask that question again, okay?"

I couldn't describe the emotions I felt; it was strange, thrilling. I disliked it, and it scared me. I didn't mean to hurt her; I didn't like it. I just walked away to avoid unnecessary emotional tantrums later.
