My Luna's Revenge - Chapter 19

Chapter 19

Mirage Pov

When I returned to the hall, I immediately spotted my dad talking to Mr. Jason. I couldn't hear their conversation clearly, but the depressed look on Alpha Jason's face confirmed my suspicion. It was about the engagement. My gaze wandered, looking for Lilah, who was supposed to be one of the servants to gather intel for me.

She mind-linked me; I met her outside the building. For some reason, she was not allowed to serve in the hall, maybe because she is a rogue.

"What did you get?"

"Master, the most interesting news is that Alpha Jason's twin would be returning today," she said.

I looked at the sky; it was already dark, at least 10 PM. It wasn't late for our kind, but the woods get dangerous by this time; returning alone is risky.

"What about my dad?" I asked.

"Oh, my lord was having a conversation with Alpha Jason. The engagement was announced to them by the seer himself some weeks back. They didn't go into much detail, but they were quite puzzled why Alpha Jones didn't show up today," she relayed to me.

"Yes, that is quite puzzling."

"Considering he had always wanted the packs to join forces, it is quite disappointing to miss this day."

"Oh well, that's not my problem. You may leave..." I ordered.

I went in and called for my dad. We both returned with our other pack members. Like I predicted, the woods were very dark; everyone had their guard up in case of any sudden attack.

Alpha Jason had a few of his trusted warriors accompany us out of the pack house and only return when we got to the middle of the forest. They wished us a safe trip; afterwards, as they returned to their pack. Everyone was in their wolf form except me, looking like the oddball that I am. I didn't have a mother, and times like this, I always recall when I was little and my dad would take me on his back in his wolf form just to go out and play. I do miss those times. I turned my head sharply to the south; the wind there was strong, too strong. It was moving with an unknown force.

I mind-linked my dad.

"Dad, do you hear that...?"

"Do you hear something? What is it?" he asked.

"I'm not sure, but it's moving fast," I replied unsurely.

"Everyone, move faster! The woods are not safe at this time of day; we need to get out of here...!" His voice echoed, not too long, but everyone heard him clearly.

In no time, everyone was at top speed, myself included. At some point, the sound stopped. The place was quiet, too unsettling; there wasn't any noise. Everyone paused and surveyed their surroundings, ready for any surprise attack. Or so we thought.

The lack of sound made everyone's senses on high alert.

"Move forward...!" My dad instructed as we stood still for almost half an hour. Obviously, the enemy was messing with us. We moved slowly for about ten minutes.

Twenty minutes...

Thirty minutes...

Still no sound...

"Ahh...!" A piercing scream echoed from the back of the group. Members began missing one by one as a sense of blood filled the air.

"Protect the alpha, protect the alpha...!"

The guards cried, surrounding me and my father.

"Everyone on guard, don't lose any more members...!"

My dad sounded so strict, with an air of authority in his voice. He has been an alpha for many years, so controlling the pack in a situation like this wasn't new to him. I, on the other hand, though not panicked, was unsure of the instructions to give.

The forest became quiet again; this time we could hear birds chirping. The sneak attacks seemed to come to an end, but no one let their guard down the second time. The enemies had their fun as black-cloaked people appeared on the trees surrounding us, blood-red eyes prying at us.

"It seems the vampires are tired of their quiet place. Does your king know about this?" my dad asked.

"We don't need our king's permission to be out at night. We're just looking for food, and you guys just look so palatable," a young cloaked vampire spoke in a deep voice.

"We have a truce," my dad said.

"So what...? By this hour of the night, the forest is ours," he responded as his comrades chuckled in glee.

"It was a mistake on our part. My apologies for intruding on your turf. Please let us go..." I glanced at my dad as he mind-linked me to be quiet. I understood him; he has always thought not to kill in another's territory.

"It's not every day we get to feast on wolves; why should we let you go?" He sounded cocky and rude, something I wouldn't take from anyone directed at my dad.

I stepped forward, taking the lead. "What the f*** do you want...? A fight?"

"Young Alpha Mirage..." He called my name with a smirk. Coming from him, it sounded like a joke. I stared into his red eyes, something unsettling at the pit of my stomach.

"You must be rather well informed. And if you know my name so well, you should know who I am and what I can do?" I returned his tone, to which he chuckled, a look of disdain flushed in his eyes.

"You dare to challenge me, Young Alpha...?"

"I'm the prince of the blood sect; do you dare pick a bone with me?" he asked rudely with a raised voice.

Everyone gasped at his words; my dad mind-linked me to stop and just let go.

I looked the bastard, a prince, in the eyes and smirked, and in a mocking tone replied, "I dare not fight the blood sect prince on the vampires, lest he loses a fang." I then watched his face twist with anger.

"How dare you...!" A comrade of his scolded me as he looked into my eyes before turning away.

"Let them go...!" He ordered to everyone's surprise. "But my lord, he just insulted you."

"Don't worry about that," he said to him as they vanished into thin air, and everything returned to normal.

Smack...!

I could feel the sting on my cheek as my dad's fist crashed against my face.

"Did I not tell you to back down just then?" he scolded harshly, with worry laced in his eyes. "I'm sorry."

"Sorry? Do you think that psycho would let this slide...? We'll discuss this when we get back to the pack house."

The journey went smoothly, and we arrived home safe with the unfortunate news of the death of some of our members.

At Midnight

My room was silent as I pondered what happened today. I closed my eyes to rest; I snapped my eyes open after a few minutes. I felt something in my room.

"You're quite sharp."

I could recognize that deep voice.

"What do you want?" I kept my voice low. "You're one of us."

Chapter 20

Viona Pov

I opened my eyes to the sun glittering on my face. Last night was hectic, but I slept through peacefully. It somehow puzzled me, but I was grateful for the good night's rest.

After the engagement party, well, everyone was excited except me, of course, and my parents. But seeing the smile on every pack member's face just gives me joy; the engagement assured them that the werewolves were united.

I went to find my dad. The engagement took a toll on him too. Maybe it wasn't that bad. I know in the future I can actually navigate my way to a peaceful life this time. I don't want to see my parents get hurt again. I promised myself.

Alpha's Office

I knocked and entered only after getting his approval. His brows were knitted together like he was worried. I came over to his side and asked in a cheerful tone, "Dad... is everything alright?" He raised a brow and looked at me, lightly pinching my cheek that still had some baby fat.

"Yes, sweetie, Dad was just lost in thoughts," he replied, his gaze returning back to the files before him.

Knock knock...!

A knock resounded at the door as my dad gave his permission to come in. I also turned towards the door, and my breath caught in my throat, making me choke, but I held it in.

"It's been a while... brother!"

The person greeted me with a smiling face that could fool everyone but not me.

My dad rose from his seat as they both gave each other a warm hug, which was brief. I looked at this person with a not-so-friendly gaze.

"Mark... I missed you," my father gave his favorite twin brother a pat on the back.

I picked up the file my dad was reading. Suddenly, I felt a shiver run down my spine. I paused and turned to find my uncle staring at me, probably expecting me to hug and greet him like in the past.

Even if I wanted to pretend, my body would obey and always stiffen when in close proximity with him.

"Viona, didn't you miss your beloved uncle? I thought I was your favorite," he said with a smile towards me.

'As if...!' I yelled in my head.

At this time in my previous life, was when he chased me out of the Levites pack into the Royals with the excuse I had to get familiar with my new home.

I was tortured and bullied. For years, I thought I had a friend, but he was only a spy. I thought my fiancé would love me, but his heart was already occupied.

At that time, my mom was only a Luna in name because he was afraid of her getting alliances. He hated my eyes that looked like my dad's to the core, hence quickly getting rid of me.

"Welcome back, uncle," I responded in a polite tone as a disappointed look married his handsome face.

"You don't look or sound happy to see me?" he asked. 'Hell yes...!'

"How could I not be pleased to see my father's lookalike? It's just that Dad's more good looking," I replied with a smile as I could see anger flash across his eyes.

He always hated being called a lookalike, but what can be done? My dad came first into the world, leaving second place for him.

I'm really proud of myself for having this mentality.

He rubbed my head a little roughly. I knew he meant it, but I just pouted at my scattered hair that I painstakingly combed this morning.

"Have you heard the news of the forest last night?" he asked my dad. "About the attack... yes, we lost some of our guards too," my dad affirmed. "Could it be the witches...?"

"No, they were vampires... at least that was what the marks on their corpses revealed," my dad explained, going into details I couldn't quite catch onto.

"Why the light pack...?"

"I mean, everyone who attended left almost at the same time last night. Why did they especially go after the light pack?"

"Coincidence...?"

"It can't be... the vampires are way too cunning for it," my uncle immediately canceled the idea of the possibility list.

"But why didn't he just kill their Alpha instead..?"

"Also check out the corpses of the light pack members; there must be clues."

"Yeah, we're already on it," my father affirmed.

"Sweetie...?" he called, turning his attention to me.

"Yes, Daddy...!"

"Could you go check on your mom for me? I have been so busy and didn't have time to check on her," he requested politely. I nodded happily to carry out the mission assigned to me.

I left the room, closing the door quietly, acting normal like I didn't see the look of envy in my uncle's eyes; he deserved it.

'Why would the vampires attack the light pack...?' I wondered as I hopped around the mansion looking for my mom. She was at the bathhouse, soaking in hot water, something she recently enjoyed since she got pregnant. Two maids were behind her, massaging her shoulders and head as she soaked in the water-filled tub.

I sneaked up beside her.

"And what do you think you're doing, young lady?" she caught me, still with her eyes closed even before I could make a move.

I giggled, coming out of my hiding spot as she looked me in the eyes, smiling contentedly. "Dad asked that I check up on you for him."

She just sighed, pouting angrily. "Why didn't he come check on me himself? He is so busy he doesn't even have time for me anymore." I could tell she wasn't really angry and was just throwing a tantrum, but Dad didn't try either.

"Let's lay our complaints to him later. Right now, he's talking with Uncle Mark."

"Oh... is it really serious?"

"Hmm... not really, but there were a few casualties."

"Sweetie, what happened?" she asked.

"Well, after the engagement last night, the light pack was attacked by a bunch of vampires on their way back."

"WHAT...!"

She yelled subconsciously, followed by an agonizing scream as she clenched her belly.

"Why didn't you tell me about this sooner?" she scolded me while trying to stand up.

"I just got here," I mumbled under my breath, pouting.

"Mom, where are you going?" I asked worriedly.

"To see your dad, of course... How can something like this happen, and I'm the last to know about it? The light pack was my home," she stormed off.

'I'm in trouble.' That was for sure.

Chapter 21

Flora's POV

I had to attend the engagement even if I didn't want to; my father dragged me along as I couldn't find a reasonable excuse to miss the most important celebration in my race.

"Daddy... my head hurts," I complained as we arrived at the Levites pack mansion. I stared in awe at first; the last time I came was when I was three, and it still amazed me how huge it is.

A maid led us through the corridor. The interior designs were even more spectacular; it seems to have been recently remodeled.

"This mansion is huge...!" I mind-linked my dad. He just smiled and patted my head in response.

"If you like the house so much, you can befriend the young miss; maybe she would invite you more often," he said, and I immediately went silent.

"Dad..."

"Hmm..."

"I don't think the princess would like me," I said, pouting cutely.

"Who wouldn't like my princess? Honey, you're so sweet and considerate; why wouldn't she like you?" My dad asked, overly confident that I could earn the princess's trust and be her friend.

"It would also be nice if we have a close connection with the Levites; it would strengthen our position if the two major packs back us."

"That's my smart little girl," my dad said with a proud smile on his face.

Only then did we realize we were falling too far behind the maid, and we quickened our pace to catch up.

Almost all the pack members of various packs attended. I could even find some of my friends from different packs. On sight, two friends of mine from different packs came forward to talk to me as we walked together.

Tomia, a friend of mine from the mountain pack, asked excitedly, "How do you think today is gonna turn out?"

"I pray to the moon goddess it turns out alright. I mean, this is a huge turning point for our race," Helen replied with her eyes closed. She is from the Moon Goddess pack; its members are claimed to be overly religious.

"Hey Flora, I heard you stayed in the Royals mansion for a little while. Did you meet their young alpha? Is he as good-looking as people claim?" Tomia has always been a straightforward person, but the blatant question left me in a blushing mess.

'What should I say? He is not only as good-looking as people say, but also has a heart of gold and a gentle nature, and I just can't get him out of my head since we met?'

Hiiii...!

Tomia squeaked in excitement while Helen gave me a smirk. I felt embarrassed to my core.

"This way, Miss," the maid said as she led us inside a room occupied by another young miss from various packs.

"Everyone will wait here; another maid will provide both refreshments shortly." With that said, she bowed shortly and exited the room.

"Oh, if it isn't the sky brat!" I could recognize that voice anywhere, coupled with the fact that the owner of the voice was right in front of me.

"Hey Yor... leave her alo..." Smack...!

A thick sound of a slap echoed in the room. My friend Tomia was slapped for speaking up for me, and the whole room erupted in whispers while Tomia held her stinging cheek.

"How dare..." Smack...!

Another slap echoed; this time, Tomia didn't take it lightly. Without a word, she attacked Yor, clawing at her face and dress. Despite her playful and teasing nature, when it came to combat, Tomia was on top.

In no time, there was a thick smell of blood in the room. I wasn't used to the smell of blood and felt nauseous as my vision blurred, and darkness followed.

I opened my eyes, looking out. It was already twilight, and the room seemed unfamiliar. Suddenly, it dawned on me what happened at noon. I immediately jolted out of bed, running towards the door, but it was suddenly opened by a maid from the outside.

"Alpha Smith requests I bring the young miss to him," she said with a bow.

"Oh..."

"Let me help the young miss put on her clothes."

I let her help me, after which we went to the main hall. It was crowded but orderly as everyone sat according to their ranks. It wasn't hard to find my dad, who was in the middle of the hall.

Soon, an old-looking man walked in as everyone offered their respect. It turns out he was the seer of the werewolf race. I also gave a small bow, and he turned to me, his eyes almost penetrating my soul.

I began shaking uncontrollably as my dad caught me, acting like nothing happened. The old man nodded with a smile before moving forward.

As he stood at the high platform-like stage, soon after, Nicolas walked in, in a black custom-made suit. It complimented his hair perfectly, making him look more mature—a little too mature for his age, but it looked so good that one couldn't just glance once.

Shortly after he entered, Princess Viona was announced. She stepped into the hall in a beautiful maroon dress, walking gracefully to the stage. At the sight of her, my eyes couldn't help tearing up.

I began shedding tears silently. Luckily, the lights were dimmed as the spotlight shone on the two of them, looking like a match made in heaven. I had to admit, Viona was indeed as beautiful as a fairy, or even more. But the person beside her was someone I had feelings for, and watching him get engaged was heartbreaking.

I don't know why I feel his gaze on me.

'Could he see me?' My tears made my vision blur, and I quickly excused myself.

I made do with a quiet room away from the hall, and I burst into tears almost immediately. I cried so much I felt my temperature rise; I wanted to stop, but the tears wouldn't stop no matter how hard I tried. Suddenly, I felt a headache, like my head was about to burst.

I could see flashes of lights and images of people—a woman on her knees, bawling her eyes out at a man walking away from her without looking back.

"Viona, this is all your fault...!" she yelled in agony before slitting her throat with her own claws as blood splattered everywhere. I could even feel it on my face. With trembling fingers, I reached for my face; I felt unsteady, like my body was being shaken. I opened my eyes, more like snapped back to reality, to meet a pair of golden ones.

"What's wrong with you? Why are you doing this to yourself? Who hurt you?" All these questions at once; which would I answer first?

"Nicolas, I have something to tell you," I said with a trembling voice as his worried gaze made me feel more confident.

"What is it..?"

"I... I think I like you. No... I love you," I said, hugging his neck, waiting for his response, afraid he would reject me.

Chapter 22

Three Years Later - Viona POV

"Excuse me...?" I was unsure of what I was hearing. After my thirteenth birthday, I was given some responsibilities to handle in the pack by my dad, to prepare me for my duties as a Luna when I came of age.

My task wasn't hard; in fact, it wasn't even a task. All I had to do was watch my dad work, which was something I had been doing since I was little. After my complaining, my dad gave in and increased my workload, giving me documents to review and explain before putting down my signature to ensure I knew what I was doing.

This is a piece of cake for me. I had handled much harder paperwork than this in my past life, both from the pack and organization. My dad and the council were surprised by my efficiency and wisdom; they expected me to make at least a few mistakes on my first try, but I disappointed them. I feel so proud of myself.

My dad especially has this proud and complicated expression on his face. I felt a prick in my mind and knew someone wanted to mind link me, and sure enough, it's my dad.

"Sweetie, you're growing up so fast..." I could feel my eyes tear up. No one has complimented me like this in my past life. I learned to work smart through criticism and scornful remarks, but here, my dad was complimenting me for doing nothing. I nodded, mumbling a thank you, and he nodded in response.

The meeting room was quiet until quick steps echoed in the hallway. The steps stopped, then there was a knock on the door. One of the council members, Gamma Ricardo, opened the door after glancing at my dad. I sat beside my dad, and I could clearly hear his heartbeat; this time it was racing fast like he was expecting something serious.

A pack member entered the room. He first bowed to the council as everyone took their seats again. The young man stood in the middle of the meeting room, looking pale and frightened.

"What happened that got a warrior like yourself so panicked?" Mr. David, a Delta, demanded an answer from the panicked youth.

"T...the...pack...Hills pack has been massacred."

The room was so quiet I couldn't even hear anyone's heartbeat anymore for a whole minute. Two minutes.

"What...!" My father exclaimed so loud I felt my eardrums tingling. He wasn't the only one; everyone felt the truth was hard to digest. 'How could a pack made of two thousand strong warriors be massacred in just a night?'

"Let's go..." It was an order; everyone stood up to leave. I was about to follow suit when my dad stopped me.

"Go and stay with your mom and siblings."

"But Dad, I want to come too," I pleaded with a pout; it has always worked on him.

"No, it's too dangerous. You can't come." He immediately walked out, not sparing me a glance.

I sulked and went to find my mom. She was with my siblings; there were two, both born two minutes apart. My brother Ariel was the firstborn in the twin. The whole pack rejoiced like never before at the arrival of the next Alpha, then followed my sister Aria; she was the youngest and the weakest in the twin. She was born mute but was gifted with the ability to mind link as many members as she wants, even from a distance. Her gift was something everyone envied; no one knew her limits. Though every member had the ability to mind link, it differs from rank to distance.

Communicating through mind link from a distance without enough mind stamina for long can affect the brain. I have no problem with mind link, only that I can only limit my link to a hundred ordinary members at a time, no more, and ninety ranking if need be.

I had to go to my siblings' chamber as my mom must be there. The moment I opened the door, two green-eyed people looked into my blue ones. Toys were scattered everywhere, both on the bed and floor.

"Why is your room always messy?" I began picking up all the toys and arranging them into the shelf and drawers.

"Where is mom?"

Aria pointed at the cupboard and mind linked me, "We were playing hide and seek."

I went to open the cupboard but noticed Ariel smirk. He was trying so hard to hide but was doing a very bad job either way. I brushed it off and opened the cupboard anyway. Immediately, my vision became dark.

"What the heck...!" I struggled frantically before I saw the light again, followed by Ariel's cute but annoying laughter. Only then did I realize I was tricked and buried in their mountains of toys.

"Haha... very funny. Now please, where's Mom? It's urgent." I was literally begging two three-year-olds.

"She already left; you just missed her," Ariel explained before picking up a toy sword to play with Aria.

I left the room to look for her as I witnessed my dad and the other members leaving to investigate the crime scene. I wanted to beg my mom to persuade my dad to let me go. She was the only parent that wasn't overprotective of me as long as I promised to stay out of danger zones. But now I can't find her, and my dad has already left.

I ran to my room with unshed tears. I was worried and panicked. This never happened in my past life; the Hills pack was one of the strongest packs under the Levites. To be massacred in a night, how strong could the enemies be?

I imagined so many case scenarios in my head at the same time; my head hurts and my heart aches. My dad is in danger, my pack is shaken, and my race is threatened by an unknown enemy.

'I have a solution.'

It was better to know what was going on than sitting here worried sick about the unknown. I first informed my maid to not bother me. I locked my door from the inside, closed my window, and fetched a bowl of water for my bathroom, and lit up a candle. All were placed on my side table as I laid back down on my bed. I knew what I was doing and how dangerous it was if I stayed too long, so the candle was a timer. When it burns out completely, I'll lose light and have no choice but to wake up.

I placed my hand in the bowl of water as I mumbled a prayer before closing my eyes. When I opened them again, I wasn't in my room; I could see the stars and the moon. I could hear the surrounding noises. I was no longer in my body; I was in a pond, more like I was now a body of water. Knowing I had limited time, I passed from one source of water to another, trying to find the source connecting to the Hill pack.

At one point, I immediately felt the water getting warmer. I followed in the direction; what was a massacre without fire? Likewise, what was warm water without heat?

Chapter 23

Aftermath of the Hill Pack Attack - Mirage POV

A scorched forest clearing at dawn. Ashes still float in the air. Burned werewolf corpses lie scattered across the land.

"I arrived too late. Again. The air reeks of silver and burnt flesh. They weren't just slaughtered—they were erased."

I stared at the flames that could be sighted miles away; everything was on fire, no stone unturned. I stepped in, going through the flames.

Mirage drops to his knees, bloodied fingers brushing against a torn, half-burnt sigil of the Hills Pack.

Mirage softly, to himself: "First the Nature Pack, now the Hill's. We're being hunted like vermin."

'I have to talk to my dad about this.'

Suddenly, a surviving pup, no older than six, crawls out from under a fallen log, crying.

"Are they gone? Is my mama coming back?"

I looked at the young pup, possibly the last surviving member of the Hills Pack. Not surprised that he could see me, I knelt to his injured level, reaching out my hand to him.

He first reached for my hand, but sure enough, his small arms passed right through.

Just checking. This is my first time trying this spell I learned some years ago. I'm supposed to be invisible to the naked eye; the fact that this pup can see but can't touch me indicates I still have a long way to go to master this skill. I first guided him to a safe place.

"What happened?"

The pup looked at me with teary eyes, probably scared.

"I'm not a ghost," I tried to assure him.

He began speaking slowly. "Mom was cooking, and I was watching a cartoon. Then there was a knock on the door. I wanted to open the door, but Mommy yelled not to and pulled me to the basement and locked me up. She said there were bad people and I should not come out until she comes and gets me, but I didn't see her."

"Did you see the people your mom said were bad?"

"No... but they smelled disgusting."

I'm not sure he's telling the truth, but I guess I'll interrogate him when we get back to the pack house. I can't take him back home today; it would be too suspicious.

I intentionally took the pup behind his pack's burning buildings. He could see the smoke but didn't talk about it. At least, it is safer than letting him see the corpses of his members or probably his mom.

After about two hours of walking nonstop, I had to admit that this pup has quite a strong stamina to not look tired even after the long walk.

"Are we going to take me to Mommy?" We paused as his expected eyes looked at me. 'I spoke like we were related.'

"I don't know your mom."

He was taken aback for a moment and mumbled an "Oh..."

"She is very nice. I'm sure she would adopt you if you want. Don't worry; my mama isn't afraid of ghosts."

I was speechless. I don't know the answer to give to someone who didn't know his mom was most likely dead.

"Wait here. This place is hidden, so don't come out. I'll come find you myself by tomorrow."

"Okay, bu..."

"If I come and you're not here, I would immediately leave you behind. Understood?"

"Uhmm."

"But would you come with my mommy?" he asked as I was about to leave.

"If I find her, I'll bring her to you."

"Thank you, big brother...!"

'Why are kids so weird? Or is it just the ones I encounter?'

I returned back to my room to find it just the way I left it; both my door and windows were locked.

'Honestly speaking, the pup was of no help. It was clear he mixed in some lies, but the case might be different under some torture devices, if only he's even a pup. That was by the way.'

I'm really looking forward to tomorrow.

The Next Day

I had news of the Hill Pack massacre. It was frightening how more than two thousand warrior werewolves would be erased in just a night.

Our pack was in a frenzy. My father, as the alpha, intended to check it out, but who knew the danger hidden in the corner? Such a huge massacre was obviously to threaten the werewolves.

Though the enemy was unknown, I had my suspicions, but unsure accusations can lead to an all-out war.

"I'll go," I immediately voiced my opinion during the council meeting as my dad intended to take some members to check out the scene.

"The Hill Pack was massacred in one night. How would the enemy not be expecting an investigation requiring the alphas to be on the scene? Who knows what they planned next? First, it was the Nature Pack alpha; now it's the Hill's...?"

"I'll side with the young alpha on this one," his beta agreed with me.

"I think Alpha Morgan should sit this one out. Let your pup handle it..." an elderly man in the council chimed in.

''I... pup?''

'This old man.'
