A night with my billionaire boss - Chapter 14

Chapter 14

I bit down on my lips to shut a sob from breaking through.

My hands trembled violently, and by now, employees had gathered around us, gossiping while some stared at me with disgust on their faces.

How could this happen?

The Blackwood industries signed an eighty million dollar deal with the Wilsons a week ago, and it was supposed to be a stepping stone for us, since we were a smaller branch, we never had huge deals like that.

Tina kept me in charge of overseeing the whole deal personally, and I was all too happy to comply.

The deal was closed and signed in my presence, along with the funds for the cooperation.

I deposited the total and complete money into the Company’s bank afterwards, so how did ten million go missing.

Tina closed the small distance remaining between us, and her fingers came to wrap around my chin, as she bent slightly to mutter in my ears, her lips brushing the tips of my ear.

“Provide that money Leah, or I’ll personally throw you at the boss's feet tomorrow morning.

Let’s see them how you’ll show your face in his office again after you have been disgraced and beaten, you thief,” she said, giving one last disgusting look at me, as she walked away.

——

I walked out of the company at  closing time, my hands still trembling with shame, and the thoughts of where I could possibly get ten million dollars before tomorrow.

“Leah Love,” a familiar voice caught through my thoughts and my eyes widened.

I was stunned when I took in the person standing in the company’s parking lot.

Xavier—there he was, all bright smiles as he called me over.

My hands clenched at my sides angrily, wondering what kind of dumb game he was playing with my step mother and what the hell was he doing at my work.

“What are you doing here, Xavier?” I asked in anger, already irritated with the activities of today.

I doubted he knew where I worked, because he never bothered with anything concerning me in the past.

Although I had mentioned my work place numerous times to him, I doubted he ever paid attention to anything I said.

“What do you mean by that Leah?

I know that I always took your love for granted in the past, but I am here now, I promise.

I realised how badly my actions must have hurt you, so I want to make amends.

Let’s start all over Leah—let’s make this relationship worth it.

I am sorry for all my past mistakes Leah, please forgive me.I love you…” And I did not get a chance to say anything before he captured my lips in a hot kiss.

His warm lips, wrapping around mine, his hands coming to my waist, keeping me steady, while he rubbed comforting circles around them.

He bit on my lips gently, making me flinch and his tongue pried through them, to wrestle with mine.

I relaxed against his hold, as a sigh escaped my lips unconsciously.

A noise from the background, along with footsteps rattled me and I immediately realised where I stood, and who I was with.

I pushed Xavier away, startled at his actions.

My hands came up to touch my lips in shock.

What have I done? I wondered, clenching my fist so tight that my nails dug into my skin.

He kissed me, he stole my first kiss from me in my company’s parking lot, and I stupidly moaned against his lips, pressing my body against his, the same man who I watched have sex with my sister.

Am I really so easy, that I’m falling for his charms again.

I had dreamt of this moment for so long in the past, foolishly.

And the kiss finally happened, sending nerves and butterflies fluttering in my stomach which instantly disappeared when I remembered that he was not the same Xavier I fell in love with.

I faced him, only to realise his eyes were intently watching something or rather someone at my back and I turned in curiosity.

I grimaced when I saw who Xavier was watching—my boss—Ethan.

He stood at the side of the parking lot, his back to us, as he walked towards a sleek black car.

My heart fluttered rapidly in my chest, and I wondered if he saw Xavier kissing me although I doubted it, seeing as he walked towards his car, disappearing from our sight.

“What is he doing here?” Xavier asked, and for the first time, he looked genuinely angry as his jaws tightened.

“That’s my boss,” I said, trying to gauge his reaction.

Does he know about the night I spent with Ethan? I wondered, but then his face gave nothing away except for anger.

“Stay away from him,” he said through gritted teeth, his eyes flashed with a dark expression that went just as fast as it came.

“Why are you actually here Xavier?” I asked, annoyed that he was prying into my business, and who the hell was he to warn me against my boss.

Not that he needed to bother about that, I was already planning on staying far away from Ethan.

“I did not lie when I said, I wanted to start over with you Leah.

I actually do, very much at that,” he said, with a sigh.

“Mother is waiting for you, at one of the high end boutiques.

You need to have a fitting for your engagement gown. It’s this weekend after all,” He said, a wide smile breaking through his face.

He looked genuinely happy at the prospect of our engagement and it made me wonder if he really had no ulterior motive behind his behaviors, but then the memories of him having sex with Natasha from a few days ago, splashed in my mind.

That destroyed every thought I had of him actually being genuine.

Chapter 15

“You’ll look lovely in this Leah, why don’t you go try it on,” Vera said with a wide smile plastered on her face.

She became the only motherly figure I had left when my own mum fell sick, and I constantly wondered how an angel like her could ever marry a devil like Thomas Kingsley, and worst of all birth a cheat like Xavier.

She was one of the reasons I could not just call off my relationship with Xavier, not like I had any say in that aspect.

But it would break her, and she was already suffering from heart complications, and any slight news can lead her into having another heart attack, and I could not afford to do that.

“Okay aunty,” I said with a genuine smile.

I examined myself in the mirror.

My body, wrapped in gold silk material.

It had embroidery of crystals around the chest, trailing down upwards to form a V-pattern on my cleavage area.

The gown clung to me like a second skin, pooling down my legs, enough to cover my feet a little bit—but never too much, else how would the designer shoes be on show.

The dress oozed of wealth, money, and everything I could not afford, but the Kingsley’s definitely could.

“Oh my, you look like an angel Leah,” Vera said looking at me, with her eyes brimming with tears.

“You are perfect Leah.

You know, everyday I thank the stars that I made the best decision choosing you as my future daughter-in-law.

No one else would ever be able to fill that position as the future madam of Kingsley as well as you would do,” she said with a slight sniff, wiping her tears.

My heart broke at her words.

“When your mum fell ill three years ago, it seemed like the weight of the world came crashing on me, but most especially you.

She was my best friend from childhood, but to you—she was your mother, my darling girl, and I could not have imagined how you would have continued to go on, managing and caring for her.

I know my son has not been faithful and honest to you.

I promise you my beloved daughter, I tried my best.

The world says if a child is spoiled and rotten, then it is most definitely the mother’s fault, so I am telling you

Leah, punish this reckless mother for spoiling her child.

Curse at the useless mother, who failed to train her child to be a good man to his future wife.

Rain insults on this foolish mother, who raised a cheat, and unfaithful man…please Leah…please punish me,” she said, kneeling on the floor.

She had her hands clasped together over her head as she bowed on my feet repeatedly, banging her head against the floor in the process.

Tears streamed down her chin as she sobbed uncontrollably.

“No, aunty…stop,” I said in shock, going on my knees, as I pulled her to my chest while struggling to keep my tears from pouring down.

“Please forgive me Leah…please do,” she sobbed louder, her body trembling in my hold.

“I know it is selfish of me to ask from you, but I will gladly be selfish if it means doing what is right.

Please Leah, this shameless mother begs of you, please never leave my son.

Promise me Leah…” she said through a sob, her eyes widening, while her body shook continuously.

“Please promise me my dear… swear on your mother’s life that you would never leave my son.

Please…swear by her name right now, that you would get married to my son,” She said, and my hands froze on her shoulders as her words sank in.

“Aunty, how could you ask such of me?” I asked with a sad smile feeling like laughing at my unlucky faith.

Here I was, trying to look for a way to break my engagement off with Xavier, and now the one woman I have respected all my life, is making me swear on the most precious person in my life to marry the same man.

“I know it is a selfish thing for me to ask for Leah…but I have no other option.

I know my son—Xavier does not deserve you in the slightest, but please help this helpless mother.

If you have ever respected me, for once in your life my dear, you will do this for me.

Please swear on your mother’s life that you would make it right with my son.

Please swear on her life that you would marry my son…” she said, sobbing more, and immediately she held on to her chest, her face scrunched in pain making my eyes widen.

“Aunty..aunty..what’s wrong?” I shouted in fear.

“First swear on her life..Leah, this I beg of you.

Swear on your mother’s life that you would marry Xavier, and never leave him,” she said again, her voice sounding lower as her expression twisted in pain.

Chapter 16

“Okay aunty.

I swear…I swear on my mother’s life that I will marry Xavier…” I said, my voice cracking at the end.

“Thank you my dear…thank you very much,” Vera said, her hands trailing my face softly.

My eyes closed and I leaned into her comforting touch.

Tears gathered in my eyes, and one treacherous drop escaped through, drawing a pattern around my cheek.

“It’s okay aunty…I’ll do anything for you,” I said with conviction knowing I meant my words.

I will actually do anything for her—she has sacrificed so much for me, even to the extent of going against her own family.

I guess I am paying my debt to her, after all, this was only a little compared to what she did for me five  years ago.

Bile rose in my throat like always, when my memories travelled back to the day she saved my life, sacrificing a very big part of herself for me.

Without her,  I would not have been alive today, so I owe her my life.

Marrying her son, that’s the least I could do.

“Are you okay now aunty…could you please, get some water for her,” I said to the sales girl, who stood behind me.

Her eyes wide like saucers as she watched us—then flinched with shock, when she realised both our eyes were watching her.

I let out a harsh breath realizing she must have been watching our drama all this while.

“No…no dear, there’s no need for that, I feel better now.

Pack this dress…we’ll take this,” Vera said, pointing at the gold dress still clinging to my body.

“Okay ma’am,” the girl said, rushing off probably to God knows where, probably ashamed, because I caught her watching us all.

————-

“I hope you have the money ready, because trust me Leah.

I have a lot planned for you already today.

Enjoy the little freedom you have—because you are definitely walking away with handcuffs, straight to jail, before the end of today.

And wait…hmm…what’s the jail term for Embezzlement and theft in the country?” Tina paused, her hands going to rub her chin like she was thinking.

Her eyes glinted with happiness and an edge of darkness, and she turned to face me, a full broad smile on her face.

“That should be twenty to thirty years, enjoy your time as a free woman Leah,” she said as she laughed loudly.

My hands clenched at my sides, and I struggled to keep my anger at bay.

“I did not steal from the company ma’am,” I repeated the words I have been chanting since I resumed work at eight this morning.

“Oh yes, I know that very well.

You are too uptight and stupid, to steal from your workplace,” she said, her eyes narrowed at me with hatred.

I let out a gasp at her words, my gaze widening in shock.

“If…if you knew then why did you…?” I did not get to finish my words, before she silenced me with her hands in the air.

“Why did I do that? Huh? Tell me.

You might not have stolen from the company, but you are no less than me.

Whoring around the new CEO like the slut you are, don’t think the walls don't have ears.

And you were always a liability to me, pretending to be good, and making me seem like a bad person, when I had an outburst at your continuous stupid mistakes.

I stole the money, yes, and it was easier to pin the blame on you.

The poor girl, who was too eager to finally handle a big opportunity for the company, thinking she was going to earn a promotion.

Serves you right, now you’ll earn a free promotion to the prison cell,” she sneered, and for the first time I felt real fear, when I heard the hatred in her voice.

I unconsciously took a step back, staring at her with wide eyes and fear.

My body shook uncontrollably, as tears blurred my vision.

“Why?…why would you do that Tina? Why?

What have I ever done to you?” I asked softly, my mind still reeling with shock.

“Why?” She asked, scoffing at my words.

She took a step towards me, closing the distance between us.

“That’s because I hate you Leah.

I hate you more than I have ever hated anything on this earth.

You remind me so much of someone, I refuse to remember.

Your stupid voice, anytime I hear it, it grates on my nerves.

It makes me want to strangle you to death so badly, but I can’t just kill you now, can I?

It’s better to get rid of you this way,”her eyes blazed with anger as she spoke.

I could clearly see her dislike for me shining brightly in her eyes now.

“I have done nothing to deserve any of your misplaced hatred Tina.

And let me tell you one thing.

I’m going to expose you. I refuse to suffer for a crime I had no part of.

I’ll tell the whole world that you stole the money not me,” I said, all my fear and shock gone, now scorched under the flames of rage I felt at her words.

I have done nothing but respect and try to get under her good books since the day I started working under her.

But yet, she was never pleased with me.

I felt it was normal, and there was nothing to worry about, but I never knew, her hatred for me ran this deep.

She let out a loud laugh at my words, like I just said the funniest thing she had ever heard.

“You can try Leah.

And I urge you, try so hard—go on, tell the whole world that it was all me.

I stole the money, and I framed you for it, tell them.

Let’s see who they’ll believe.

Let’s see how many people actually believe you.

Should I tell you how many Leah?

No-one, absolutely no one would believe you Leah, and do you know why?

Because I have concrete evidence stating that you stole the money—not me.”

Chapter 17

Her words rang in my ears continuously.

“I have evidence stating that you stole the money—not me,”

I let out a harsh breath closing my eyes, as I breathed through my mouth.

My nose felt too tight to take in air, as nervousness ate its way inside my body.

Any moment now, I know Tina was going to pop in here with officers behind her back.

She had already smeared my name through the office halls, and everybody looked at me like I was disgusting—a thief.

My eyes flashed up with fear, when I saw Tina, a smug smile on her face as she walked towards my cubicle with men dressed in black behind her—no doubt that they were cops.

And if anything, the badges resting on their chest proved that they were indeed cops.

“I am Inspector Jordan.

Miss Harnes, you are under arrest on the crimes of Embezzlement and theft of funds provided by the Blackwoods Industries.

You have the right to remain silent.

Anything you say can and will be used against you in the court of law,” one of the men dressed in black said.

The other black man stepped forward, forcing my hands behind my back like a criminal as he cuffed my wrist.

My body stood frozen in shock, my mouth clamped shut, and it felt like air had been knocked out of my lungs.

My eyes took in all the other employees.

They had gathered around to watch the show of the company thief getting arrested.

Some snickered at my pitiful form, while others looked at me with disgust.

I shifted my gaze to Tina, as she stood by the side.

Her expression filled with happiness, as we locked eyes together.

“My mum,” I muttered outloud, but not enough for others to hear.

I cannot afford to get arrested. I thought, my breathing growing faster.

If I got arrested, there was no way I could marry Xavier, and then my step-mother would call off the contract, leaving my mum to waste away in the hospital without care.

No…no…I cannot afford that. I thought in fear, my eyes moving around all the faces gathered around.

“Where is the president? You cannot take me.

I did not steal anything, I am being framed.

Tina framed me, she stole the money,” I said loud enough for everybody to hear, and immediately loud muttering filled the air, along with snickers.

I took in their expression, and they looked at me like I had gone mad.

I watched Tina’s lips stretch up in a smirk, as she muttered to told you so.

“I want to speak to the president.

How can you arrest me like that, without the owner knowing?

I did not steal the money, let me go, I want to speak to Ethan right now.

He…he knows me…he won’t let me get arrested,” I demanded in anger, taking in their mocking faces.

“You want to speak to the president?

Why Leah?

What relationship could you possibly have with him, that you’ll call him name so fondly, huh Leah?”she asked slyly, raising the tension in the air as she openly implied that I was a slut.

“The president is aware of your crimes Leah.

And he gave the others for your arrest, even providing the Blackwoods Lawyer for your case,” She said in delight, and my pupils dilated in shock.

“I don't believe," I said with a small laugh, not believing my luck could possibly be this bad.

How could I possibly believe that the same man who stared at me like I was the only thing he could see, other than my arrest.

“You are lying Tina, why are you lying?

Call the president here, he has no idea of my arrest, nor of the evil games you are playing—you thief,” I shouted, sounding deranged and mad.

“Please take her out, she is disturbing the peace of this quiet environment.

This is a work place, not a home for raising dogs,” Tina said, dismissing my words.

The men immediately moved, dragging me with them as I struggled, shouting and begging, but my words fell in deaf ears.

——

I have been locked in here for God knows how long.

Another officer came in earlier, after I was questioned.

I don't know what they expected to hear, but I repeated what I said over and over again, that I was innocent.

The female officer questioning me snarled down at me, saying I was making things harder for myself.

She said, I should just plead guilty to the crimes, maybe I might get a lesser sentence from the court, but how could I when I was innocent.

It seemed Tina had not been lying after all, because the officer confirmed that it was the Blackwoods company lawyer that was fighting me on this case.

Not like there was anything much to fight.

I was provided with the state lawyer, but when going against a family as powerful as the Blackwoods, there is no fight there, when they have already won.

They basically ruled the city.

“Why did you steal from me,” A deep baritone voice said, snapping me out of my thoughts.

I stared at familiar green eyes that held no expression like always.

Seeing him made me sigh with relief.

I knew Tina was lying; he had no idea that I was getting arrested. I knew he would come for me.

“I did not steal from you sir,”My voice shook slightly, from exhaustion and relief.

“Why are you lying Leah? I hate lies,” he said darkly, and for the first time, his eyes flashed with an expression, and it was not the one I wanted to see—disgust.

Seeing that alone, made me question so many things.

“Did you know, I was getting arrested?

Did you give orders for my arrest?” I asked, my chest tightening at the thoughts of the truth I could see clearly with my eyes.

“Yes,” he said—one word, and every hope I had shattered right there.

Chapter 18

“Why? Why did you do that?

I called for you…you know, why would you get me arrested,” I asked faintly, his blunt words left a sour punch in my gut, leaving me breathless.

“I could ask the same question.

Why?

Why did you steal from me?

I told you to ask for anything…anything you wanted I would have given you if you had agreed to my terms.

But no, you still foolishly stole from my company,” He snapped harshly.

“And who do you think you are?

Calling my name randomly on my company grounds like we share some sort of relationship, what kind of impression are you trying to leave of me?

Just because we spent a night, does not mean I would pardon you for a crime like theft, what example do you think that would be leaving for my other employees?

Nobody crosses me and gets away with me, and especially not a woman like you,” He said through gritted teeth.

His jaws clenched together, and he stared at me with an unwavering intensity.

“So you got me arrested just to boost your pride and ego didn’t you?” I asked in anger, and watched as his eyes flared.

My hands clenched the iron bars of the prison cells, as I regarded him.

My insides were burning with hatred and resentment.

He merely scoffed at my words, not giving me a reply, while his eyes blazed with madness.

“Not my pride, don't make that mistake. I got you arrested because you deserved it, you stole from me,” He said icily.

“I did not steal from you, I never stole anything and  I would never do that. I was framed…” I said, as he scoffed loudly.

My belly twisted judging from the expression I saw on his face.

It was filled with nothing but loathing for me.

“So tell me, let’s say I believe you, and somebody actually framed you.

Then who did…who framed you?” He said coldly, as he dismissed my words with a scornful look.

“Tina…she framed me!” I shouted in annoyance.

His expression turned to one of disdain.

He clenched his fist around the iron bars, separating us—his grip tightening with rage.

“Let’s say I believe you.

Tell me why would my secretary to the president ever frame you?

And you better give me a good reason” He asked, watching me with an unreadable look.

“Because she harbors some kind of grievances towards me.

Believe me, She told me herself that she stole the money, I swear I am not lying to you,” I pleaded, hoping and begging for him to believe my words.

“Stop lying Leah! Just stop…stop lying, it's disgusting,” he roared, rattling the iron bars with so much force, that I stumbled back in fear and shock.

“I’m not lyi…”

“Quiet, just keep quiet and not another word,” he warned menacingly, cutting my words off.

I watched his body vibrate as his temper flared.

“First you steal from me, then you lie to me.

Do I look like a fool to you?

Your words disgust me.

I would give you an easy way out, that or nothing.

You give me your body willingly, and if you  agree to that, I’ll drop all charges against you.

But remember, our contract demands exclusivity and secrecy.

You either agree to this, or rot in jail for your crimes, and believe me, there is no other way out,” He snarled.

My heart pounded with terror at his words, and I glared at the beast standing before me, his eyes blazing with a kind of fury that I have never seen before.

My insides churned with dread, and nausea clawed up my core, leaving me sick to my stomach.

“You said I could ask for anything I wanted earlier…you said it was my choice,” I spoke up, only to be cut off by his mocking laugh.

Right now, he looked nothing like the man who ignited immense pleasure in me, and everything like the devil incarnate.

“I’m afraid that time has passed baby girl, your answer came too late.

You either agree to my deal, or you rot to death here,” he spat out in anger.

“It’s ironic isn’t it?

You claim I disgust you, yet you’ll do anything to get me in your bed.

If I disgust you, then how can you want me?

And you are engaged aren’t you, are you not afraid that your fiancée would find out that you are fucking another woman behind her back?” I said bitterly, seething with rage and helplessness.

“My private relationships are none of your concerns, and don’t even think you are worthy of getting involved in it.

Your only worth is your body.

And as for why I want you, I have my personal reason which does not concern you.

You should count yourself grateful, that I seek pleasure inside you,” he growled, his icy eyes looking deeply in mine, and right now, I could see nothing but revulsion for me in them.

“Fine. I accept your deal.

I’ll give you my body, as long as you drop every charge on me,” I whispered, loud enough for him to hear.
