The blind billionaire's fake finance - Chapter 9

Chapter 9

"I'm sorry, I rushed to help you and didn't pay attention. It's my fault," Annie apologized softly.
Finn continued to ascend the stairs in silence, acknowledging Annie with a low, appreciative grunt. His voice had a hint of gentleness that even he hadn't realized.
Perhaps, at that moment, Finn no longer felt the same level of resentment towards Annie as he did when she had unexpectedly appeared at his house.
Together, they descended to the ground floor, with Finn going straight to the kitchen, where he found a familiar water pitcher in the corner.
"Let me help you pour some water," Annie offered, pouring a glass for Finn and then serving herself one. They quietly sipped their water, exchanging no further words. Afterward, they silently made their way back to their respective rooms.
Everything seemed unchanged on the surface, but there was a subtle shift in the hearts of both individuals.
A few days later, Annie's life at Finn's home had gradually settled down, and at least Finn was no longer overly hostile when she was around. One morning, while Annie and Finn were having breakfast together in the dining room, the doorbell rang slowly.
"Let me answer the door," Keelin offered.
Keelin felt a momentary surprise since it had been a while since anyone had visited Finn, but she quickly regained her composure and went outside. After a while, a gentle but somewhat arrogant male voice rang out.
"Finn, it's been a while. I've come to visit you, my dear little brother."
The newcomer was dressed in a finely tailored vest and wore an expensive watch, exuding an air of sophistication and privilege. He had a tall presence with a handsome face and sharp eyebrows, but his voice was strangely cold.
Annie couldn't help but shiver, her instincts telling her that this person did not have good intentions. After speaking softly with Keelin and learning that he was Hubert, Annie began to piece things together.
As for Finn, upon hearing this voice, his face immediately revealed his disdain, his teeth gritting as if he were suppressing something. His hands tightened around the fork he was holding.
"Thank you for your concern. But I'm still alive and quite comfortable; it seems to have disappointed you," Finn retorted, his tone laced with sarcasm.
Seeing that Finn, despite his blindness, maintained his dignity and composure, Hubert's disappointed expression flickered momentarily.
"Why would you think so poorly of me? I care about you and worry that you might suffer and despair without your sight, which is why I wanted to come and take care of you. We used to be very close, didn't we? If there's anything I can do to help, just let me know; don't hesitate," Hubert said in a seemingly kind tone.
Finn sighed and took a sip of water, sitting straight without flinching. "Oh, I thought you were here to mock and feign affection. My father isn't here; you don't need to put on a show of caring."
Hubert casually put his hand in his pocket, shrugged his shoulders, and sat in a chair across from Finn, tapping the table lightly.
"If you don't need any help, then so be it. It seems my goodwill is surplus. Can I join you for breakfast then? I haven't eaten anything this morning," he said.
Keelin also appeared to dislike Hubert, as she deliberately slammed the breakfast items onto the table while serving him. Hubert, pretending not to notice, tilted his head and glanced at Annie beside him.
"Is this your fiancée, Sofia? She looks lovely. It's a pity, though, that fate has dealt her such a hand, ending up with a blind man," he remarked.
After being kind and exposed by Finn, Hubert no longer pretended and began taunting him directly. Without waiting for Finn to respond, Annie laughed and retorted.
"Pity? I don't feel that way at all. In fact, I consider myself lucky that my fiancé is Finn and not some stepchild who's so self-righteous and full of himself, spouting words that make one's skin crawl."
Annie was a gentle soul, but she always knew how to protect those around her. Excessive humility only worsened the situation, and she didn't want that.
Perhaps this cold and firm rebuttal of Annie surprised Hubert, as his interest flickered in his eyes. After finishing chewing a bite of his sandwich, he replied with a mocking tone.
"Sofia, you truly know how to appear optimistic. I remember when my mother married Finn's dad; you even said you wanted to switch places and become my fiancée. So, did you feel embarrassed because I rejected you back then, and now you are embarrassed and angry?"
This revelation left Annie's mind blank, her face stiff. She never expected that Sofia had engaged in such shocking behavior in the past.
Tense and with a dry mouth, she looked at Finn, who was calmly drinking water and showed no signs of surprise. It suddenly dawned on her why Finn had initially kept pushing her away, even suggesting that she might try to seduce Hubert instead of caring for him. There was a shocking story behind it all.
With a slight change in her expression, Annie smiled gracefully and walked over to Finn, helping him refill his nearly empty glass of water.
"Well, before, I had eyes as blind as a bat, and I did foolish things that made you laugh," she said playfully.
"But now, I'm genuinely regretful that my eyes have suddenly improved, allowing me to see through manipulative people like you. So, just looking at you tires me out," Annie continued, maintaining her cheerful tone.
"At the moment, I only want to live harmoniously with Finn, to be a beautiful and gentle fiancée to him."
Her words not only startled Hubert but also left Finn astonished. Annie remained as she was, smiling heartily, and reached out to help tidy up Finn's slightly disheveled hair before narrowing her eyes at Hubert.
"I believe you've finished your meal. So, are you ready to leave? As you can see, there's no one here welcoming you inside."

Chapter 10

You should find someone to look after you

Hubert went from being stunned to angry. He glared at Finn and Annie on the opposite side and then forcefully pushed his chair back, rising to his feet and raising his voice in frustration.
"Very well, Sofia. Let me see how long you and Finn can stay happy—a blind, untalented man and a money-hungry, unfaithful woman, such a fitting couple."
After Hubert stormed off in anger, Annie let out a small sigh of relief. She realized she was standing close to Finn, her hand still casually resting on his hair. She quickly pulled her hand away and scratched her head, trying to explain herself.
"I just couldn't bear to see Hubert smug and taunting you," she continued.
"He wants to see you fall to satisfy his selfish desires. That's why I acted friendly towards you, to disappoint him."
Annie's voice grew softer as she spoke, fearing Finn would resent her, but Finn merely responded with a quiet "Hmm" before saying, "Anyway, thanks for what you did, Sofia."
Annie tilted her head slightly to look at Finn, his handsome face sharp and perfect in every way, with an air of nobility and a hint of aloofness. Plus, his background was outstanding.
Annie couldn't understand why Sofia had wanted to switch her fiancé to Hubert, a guy who looked so unimpressive and had such a terrible personality. Clearly, compared to Finn, he was nothing.
It seemed like Hubert's visit was an ill omen, as the morning, which had started with clear skies, suddenly turned into a heavy downpour. Annie sighed; she wasn't particularly fond of rainy days. It made commuting inconvenient, and getting wet in the rain could lead to catching a cold and missing work.
However, at this moment, as she gazed at the raindrops falling outside the elegant window, she suddenly appreciated the beauty of each raindrop, sparkling and fragile. She sat cross-legged on the couch, gazing out the window, lifting her head to watch each raindrop splatter.
Annie thought about how Finn hadn't eaten much in the morning due to Hubert's presence, so she decided to bake some delicious apple pastries. Keelin was out tending to the garden, so Annie didn't want to bother her and instead brought a plate of freshly baked, golden-brown pastries with some beautifully arranged apple slices for Finn.
As she was about to knock on the door, she heard a loud, shattering sound followed by a painful cry from inside. Annie hurriedly entered the room to find Finn sprawled on the floor, his hand covered in blood, with sharp shards of glass scattered around him.
"Finn, what happened? Are you okay?" Annie placed the plate of pastries on the table and quickly approached Finn, carefully examining the wound on his hand. The cut wasn't too deep, but the blood was a bright, vivid red. She hurriedly retrieved a first aid kit to help Finn tend to the injury.
As Annie used a cotton pad to stop the bleeding, Finn's gravelly and deliberate voice spoke slowly, "I'm fine. I wanted to pour some water and accidentally knocked the glass over. When I bent down to pick up the pieces, I slipped and fell."
Listening to his explanation, Annie gently reminded him to be more careful next time. The bleeding had stopped, and she spoke softly, "I'll disinfect it for you now; it might sting a bit, but please bear with it."
Annie's normal voice was soothing, akin to the sound of a melodic piano, both soothing and sweet. As she lowered her voice, it became even more mesmerizing. Finn blinked, suddenly wanting to see the owner of this enchanting voice once more.
Annie's movements were so delicate that Finn hardly felt any pain, but he could vaguely sense her close presence. He caught whiffs of her sweet, lavender-scented breath, and the faint aroma clung to her clothes. It was a clean and pleasant fragrance that eased the discomfort and despair he had felt earlier for not being able to see.
After carefully bandaging Finn's wound, Annie helped him stand to avoid stepping on the glass shards. She then guided him to a chair, gave him a piece of apple pie, and effortlessly picked up a broom to sweep up the glass fragments.
Finn took a bite of the apple pie. The sweet aroma of the pastry crust and the tartness of the apples blended together perfectly, creating a delightful harmony. Annie's cooking skills were truly exceptional.
Furthermore, she was incredibly gentle. Her kindness was slowly melting Finn's icy heart, making him feel like a hedgehog that had always kept its spikes up to ward people off but now found itself willingly lowering them to let her come closer every day.
In the days that followed, Annie and Finn coexisted harmoniously as neighbors. Annie often visited Isolde on weekends when she didn't have to work at the restaurant, and they would chat for hours.
Today, with Joyce away, Isolde held Annie's hand affectionately and inquired, "Annie, I'm about to be discharged. Do you have any plans?"
Annie didn't quite understand and tilted her head to look at Isolde. Isolde gently smiled and explained, "I mean, your romantic life. I know you've never loved anyone because you were here for the medical fees and to look after me."
"But now, you should start thinking about it. You're not getting any younger; you should find someone to look after you. That way, I can be more at ease."
Annie had never mentioned her arrangement with Sofia to Isolde, so it was clear that Isolde didn't know that Annie was living with Finn. Annie evaded the question and said that she hadn't found a suitable partner for a relationship yet and wasn't in a hurry to get married.
"It's not too early, sweetie. What do you think about Denis?"
"Denis is tall, handsome, has a good personality, and seems to like you. You might consider him, and if you two fall in love later on, I'll be very supportive."
Isolde chuckled sweetly, her eyes curving like a crescent moon. Annie felt flustered and bit her lip, not knowing how to respond, so she nodded in agreement to move past the topic.
For the remaining time, Isolde continued to sit by Annie's side, praising Denis for his understanding and good behavior, even stating that if Annie were to marry him, he would make a great husband. Annie listened to these compliments until she felt tired. In the end, she could only nod in agreement.
Even though she wasn't living with Finn, it was unlikely that she and Denis would develop a romantic relationship. At the very least, Annie considered Denis a close colleague and nothing more.

Chapter 11

I will always stand by your side

After Joyce returned, Isolde's topic ended, and Annie breathed a sigh of relief, seeking an excuse to leave. If she stayed a moment longer, Annie feared she wouldn't be able to contain her thoughts any longer.
Back home, Annie rarely had the luxury of lounging on her bed to watch a movie. She usually didn't have the luxury of free time for such activities, so lying there for a while already made her feel restless.
Annie stretched her shoulders and headed to the kitchen to warm a small slice of apple pie. After serving a portion to Keelin, she carried another piêc upstairs to Finn.
Finn seemed to have a genuine liking for apple pie. When Annie had given him a piece earlier, he complimented it in a soft tone, even praising Annie's culinary skills.
Annie stood outside Finn's room and lightly knocked on the door. After receiving Finn's permission, she entered. Finn sat in a corner of the room, cradling a guitar in his hands, lost in thought.
"I brought you a piece of apple pie. I placed it next to you," Annie said, breaking the silence.
Finn continued to pluck at the guitar strings, losing himself in contemplation again. Annie couldn't help but think of the story Keelin had shared earlier, and now she felt compelled to offer her advice.
"I've heard your story. Although I'm an outsider and have no right to speak, I believe that pursuing one's passion is a wonderful thing. You shouldn't let the demands of others make you miss out on your dreams."
"I also want to say that, as your fiancée, I will always stand by your side. If you wish to continue pursuing your deferred dreams, I'm here to support you."
It was only then that Finn lifted his head slightly, blinked, and, after a while, he nodded. Just as Annie was about to leave, she heard Finn's somewhat raspy voice.
"Do you want to hear a guitar piece?"
Annie paused, feeling at ease, and sat beside Finn, nodding.
"Is that possible? I love the sound of a guitar."
As a child, Annie was highly intrigued by musical instruments and admired talented piano and guitar players. She had even considered learning to play herself, but her difficult circumstances quickly extinguished that thought.
Finn slowly placed his hand on the guitar, feeling the delicate strings, slightly closing his eyes before beginning to play a familiar tune. The guitar's sound wasn't as gentle as the piano, but it had a warm and profound quality, much like Finn's voice, making it incredibly pleasing to Annie's ears. She got lost in the melodies, quietly sighing with contentment.
When Finn had to abandon his dreams, he must have felt great regret. Even someone with no understanding of music like Annie was amazed by his guitar skills.
When Finn finished playing, he sat in deep thought for a long while, seemingly lost in some reverie. Annie didn't disturb him; she offered genuine praise and quietly left.
She could tell that Finn was not in a good state, and she didn't want to intrude when he appeared vulnerable. She understood Finn's somewhat proud nature, so leaving was the best choice.
That evening, the three of them continued to eat dinner as if nothing had happened, but Annie keenly sensed that Finn's mood was still troubled. Therefore, before going to bed, Annie intentionally brought Finn a cup of warm milk, placing it in his hands, which surprised him.
"This is warm milk. When I'm sad, I usually have a cup of milk, and I hope it can make you feel better," Annie said sincerely. Her gesture warmed Finn's long-cold heart. It seemed that, apart from Keelin, Sofia was the first person who had shown him so much care since his mother's passing.
"Thank you, Sofia," Finn said softly, then quickly closed the door, turned inside, and held the warm milk in his hands, feeling his heart-warming gradually.
...
The following morning, Annie and Finn had to visit Finn's father's home. According to Keelin, Finn had to go there once a month to demonstrate family harmony to outsiders. He would have two meals, stay overnight, and then leave.
Today, Finn was dressed comfortably in sportswear, appearing clean and relaxed, but his expression was far from cheerful. Annie sat beside him, choosing not to say anything that might worsen his mood, so the journey passed with prolonged silence.
"Finn, we're here," Annie said, pulling Finn out of his thoughts, and they entered the house. The household staff or butler showed disapproval and disdain for Finn and Annie upon their arrival, not bothering to greet them warmly. In the living room, Finn's father, Ryan, sat on the sofa, sipping tea. Upon seeing them, he didn't bat an eye, didn't offer a warm welcome, but nodded slightly and asked them to sit on the opposite side.
Annie didn't quite understand the rituals and customs of the wealthy, nor could she explain why Finn and his father, while not particularly close, had to meet like this regularly. She just sat in quiet solidarity with Finn, maintaining the silence.
The silence endured until Hubert returned. In stark contrast to the stiffness from earlier, the household staff greeted Hubert warmly. Ryan appeared delighted, asking about his work at the company.
Seeing this stark contrast, Annie felt a pang of sympathy for Finn. Finn was Ryan's son but received coldness, whereas Hubert wasn't Ryan's child but enjoyed all the affection. Finn must have felt a sense of pity and resentment.
Annie subtly held Finn's hand to let him know he wasn't alone, successfully coaxing a small smile from him. At this point, Hubert acted as if he had just noticed Finn's presence, clearing his throat and saying.
"Oh, Finn and Sofia are back home? You two are so silent, like shadows, with not even a trace of your presence. I hardly noticed you," Hubert said, chuckling, his face radiating provocation and arrogance.
Finn didn't react to Hubert's words as if he hadn't heard a word. But Annie, on behalf of Finn, felt a sense of frustration. She smiled lightly, her words sharp and witty.
"Oh, you've been talking to your father for ten minutes and still haven't noticed us? Your eyesight must be an issue; I recommend you get an eye examination at the hospital."
Her words were filled with a mocking tone, causing Finn to crack a slight smile, while Hubert frowned and glared at Annie, brimming with anger.

Chapter 12

Hubert was about to retort when Tracy returned, abruptly ending the conversation. Tracy, a young and elegant woman, was Finn's stepmother, and now her hands filled with shopping bags from renowned local brands, indicating she had just returned from shopping.
With Tracy's return, all of them sat down to have dinner. As Annie had anticipated, the atmosphere between Tracy, Ryan, and Hubert remained harmonious, but they entirely disregarded Finn during the meal.
Annie couldn't help but sympathize with Finn, considering how he could be treated as an outsider. She couldn't imagine how Finn had coped with this situation before.
As a result, Finn's distant and reserved nature didn't come as a surprise. Annie sighed and placed a piece of grilled chicken on Finn's plate, breaking the silence.
"Finn, give this grilled chicken a try. It's seasoned wonderfully and very delicious."
Under the table, Annie lightly patted the edge of Finn's shirt, trying to lift his spirits in a cute and careful manner.
Finn had grown accustomed to being excluded from conversations and didn't dwell on it too much. However, Annie's tenderness and care today unintentionally warmed his heart.
The background music played on, and after finishing the meal, Annie took Finn's hand and led him to their bedroom. Staying downstairs would only earn them cold stares, so they opted for a more comfortable and spacious atmosphere in their room.
When returning to Ryan's house, Annie and Finn naturally shared a room. Annie looked around Finn's room, which featured a simple style with a black and white tone, devoid of any other colors.
While lost in admiring the room, Annie suddenly remembered an important detail: it had only one bed.
Yes, just one bed!
This room just had one bed!
Annie bit her lip, feeling increasingly awkward. She tilted her head to look at Finn, who had seated himself on a small sofa in the room. She spoke softly.
"Um, Finn, there's only one bed in the room, and sharing it might not be convenient, so I'll sleep on the floor with a blanket. I won't bother you."
Annie vividly remembered Finn's initial disdain when they first met, so she naturally refrained from getting too close to him now.
Finn turned toward Annie, following the sound of her voice, his tone still low and cold.
"No need to do that, Sofia. Besides, I'm a man. Sleeping on the floor won't be a problem for me. You can sleep on the bed."
In Annie's subconscious, due to Finn's temporary blindness, she always sees him as someone who needs care and attention. Without thinking much, she immediately shook her head.
"No, this is your room. I can't let you sleep on the floor. Besides, I'm perfectly healthy. Sleeping on the floor won't make me sick."
Finn, naturally, didn't accept this reasoning, and the two argued for a while without reaching a consensus on who should sleep on the floor and who should sleep on the bed.
In the end, Finn grew tired of the argument and scratched his head before saying, "Well, then, let's both sleep on the bed. My bed is spacious, and we can keep a distance from each other."
Annie had no more objections and reluctantly lay on the bed, turning her back to Finn.
Whether it was due to Annie's imagination or not, she felt the scent of peppermint mixed with Finn's evergreen aroma wafting from him, gently fragrant and intoxicating, stirring her senses. She stiffened, unable to move, trying to control her breathing to drift into sleep, her heart beating rapidly.
When Annie woke up, Finn was still in a deep slumber. She carefully got out of bed, trying not to make a sound to avoid waking him. Feeling thirsty, she headed downstairs to get some water, accidentally bumping into Hubert in the kitchen. He smirked with a half-smile and approached Annie, tilting her chin and teasing her.
"Sofia, it's been a few days, and you seem even more beautiful now."
Annie, feeling compelled to be near Hubert, pushed his hand away. Though their acquaintance was recent, Annie's impression of Hubert wasn't good, and she had no intention of getting too close or befriending him.
After all, Finn and Hubert had already marked each other as rivals.
Annie was replacing Sofia as Finn's fiancée now. So, it was best to avoid too much interaction with Hubert.
"Pretending to be noble for what? What's that all about? Weren't you quite taken with me before, I recall? You're always scheming to catch my attention, even going as far as to talk about breaking off your engagement with Finn to become my girlfriend."
"Now, you act like you despise me. Sofia, I am showing a hint of interest in you, be obedient. At that time, I might consider dating you after you've left Finn in the dust."
Hubert looked down at Annie from above, his disdain evident. Annie had intended to walk away from the conversation, brushing off this exchange, but Hubert's words were too offensive to ignore. She couldn't help but want to lash out at him.
"Oh, I see now that you're not only blind but also deaf. I mentioned it while at Finn's place—I was blind before; that's why I thought you were perfect."
"I'm not blind anymore. And obviously, I have no desire to associate with someone as repulsive and morally bankrupt as you."
"Right now, just sharing the same air with you feels polluted."
Annie pursed her lips and took two steps back, her eyes curving in a mocking smile, trying to provoke Hubert. However, Hubert's response was beyond her expectations.
"Sofia, I genuinely admire your current spirited attitude. I'm giving you a chance. If you come back here, I can consider marrying you, I promise."
Hubert appeared quite confident in his allure as he stood there, running his fingers through his hair and winking at Annie in what he believed was a seductive manner. But at this point, Annie's skin was crawling, and she couldn't fathom how he could think she liked him.
Annie shook her head continuously, making a retching gesture, and then jeered at him.
"I'd rather not accept this kind of 'honor' even if you were the one proposing. You had the audacity to ask me to leave Finn and choose an incompetent person like you? That's simply a dream."
After Annie finished speaking, she shot Hubert a disdainful look and quickly walked away, leaving him with an intrigued smile.
"How fascinating," he mused.
Unbeknownst to both Annie and Hubert, Tracy had witnessed their conversation. She followed Annie's departing figure, gritting her teeth and casting a malicious glare.
After the conversation, Annie felt at ease and practically skipped back to her room, humming a few lines of a song. Upon entering, she found Finn already awake and could tell by her cheerful demeanor that something good had happened. He inquired, "What's got you so happy?"
Annie's smile grew wider, radiating joy.
"Oh, I just gave a good scolding to some fool to wake him up, and I feel like I've enlightened his mind, so it makes me happy."

Chapter 13

The Imaginary Frog Who Thought It Was a Swan

In the evening, Finn and Annie sat together in the dining room, enjoying fruit and listening to recent popular songs. Only when it was time for dinner did they reluctantly join the rest of the invisible duo at the meal.
The harmonious atmosphere between Tracy, Hubert, and Ryan went unnoticed by Finn entirely, who remained focused on finishing his meal and then departing. Annie, too, couldn't eat much, feeling the heaviness in the air, making it impossible to swallow her food. In the end, she ate only a small portion before following Finn.
Back in their room, Annie found Finn still sitting motionless on the sofa. Ever since she moved into Finn's house, she had noticed that he often sat there lost in thought, with no discernible expression on his face.
Annie didn't disturb Finn, she sitting in a corner of the room and playing a game with her headphones on to avoid causing any noise. After a while, noticing that Finn's rigid posture hadn't changed, Annie couldn't help but speak up.
"Finn, would you like some red velvet cake? I've heard that having a bit of dessert when you're not feeling great can improve your mood."
Finn wasn't particularly fond of sweets, except for the ones Annie made because they perfectly suited his taste. He nodded and politely thanked her, so Annie got up and headed to the kitchen.
By this time, the household staff had probably finished their duties, and in the kitchen, only an elderly housekeeper remained. She didn't seem overly fond of Annie, but still politely responded to her questions. Annie inquired about the kitchen layout and located the necessary ingredients, starting mixing the batter and whipping the cream.
While cooking, Annie's mood remained relatively relaxed until Hubert walked in. He leaned against the refrigerator, crossed his arms, and gazed at Annie with an inexplicably gentle look, seemingly quite intrigued by her baking endeavors.
"Sofia, I can't believe even a young lady like you can cook. What kind of cake are you making, and can I have an extra piece?"
Annie couldn't understand why Hubert suddenly seemed interested in conversing with her, but she didn't want to engage in further argument with him at that moment.
She turned her head away and placed the cake batter on a baking tray, acting as if she were deaf and unwilling to converse with Hubert. Hubert, on the other hand, didn't display any sign of dissatisfaction, continuing to watch Annie intently without taking his eyes off her, as if he were observing his lover, making Annie feel uncomfortable.
"Can you get out of there? I've said it before, I really dislike you, so please stay away from me as much as possible."
Hubert curved his lips into a flattering smile, raising an eyebrow.
"I've also mentioned, Sofia, that I've been drawn to you lately. Wanting to get closer to you is quite understandable."
Annie stared at him wide-eyed, the words incensing her to blushing. She was about to retort when she heard a low chuckle mixed with Hubert's laughter.
"Enough teasing you; if you don't want to bake a cake for me, that's fine. Anyway, in the future, you'll willingly bake a cake for me and me alone."
Hubert spoke triumphantly and arrogantly as he departed, leaving Annie muttering insults to herself.
She placed the cake into the oven, and just as she had sighed in relief about the return of the peaceful atmosphere, another person entered.
"Sofia, I never expected you to have some courage. Not only can you coexist with Finn, but you've also managed to captivate Hubert."
"However, don't get too thrilled or smug too soon. Don't think I'm unaware of your intentions. You pretend to treat Finn sincerely and dismiss Hubert to make him see you as special and want to pursue you, right?"
"Nice plan, but you should know that Hubert will be the heir of my family in the future. The company and even this house will all belong to him. Don't think a few of your tricks will make Hubert like you enough to marry him. Let me tell you: I will never agree to have someone as conniving as you as my daughter-in-law. You're not worthy."
"Don't illusion anymore, Sofia. You're only suitable for a powerless, blind guy like Finn, and even with my son, you're not qualified to have a conversation."
As soon as Tracy entered, she launched into a long speech as soon as she entered, raising her chin in a warning gesture, which left Annie feeling exhausted and rubbing her forehead. Now, Annie finally realized that Hubert's delusions had been instilled in him from the beginning by his mother.
Indeed, except for Finn, there was no one normal in this family, Annie added.
Annie preferred a quiet atmosphere and didn't want to engage in an argument, so she remained silent. However, this made Tracy believe that she was ashamed and embarrassed. Tracy confidently approached Annie, her eyes lazily appraising her.
"Why aren't you responding anymore? Did I say true about your intention?"
"I advise you to stay away from Hubert. If you don't, I won't spare you."
Annie took the cake out of the oven, quickly decorated it, and added a layer of sugar, gazing at Tracy as if she were a fool.
"Don't have to worry about that, Tracy. I'm not interested in someone as incompetent and useless as Hubert, who looks down on others. A delusional frog pretending to be a swan, only you seem to think he's perfect."
"Do you think your son is so handsome that every girl wants to seduce him? Well, you're mistaken. Even if he begged me to be with him on his knees, I would still reject him."
After saying this, Annie picked up two cakes on a small tray and left, no longer wanting to be entangled in a conversation with Tracy. She had gradually realized that living with Finn had made her temperament colder and her skills in verbally dressing down people better, as her words had clearly made Tracy furious.
